It has been found from a large number of statistical tests that graphite nodules in malleable iron grow with time according to a power law. The growth of the nodules and their fractal dimension have been investigated experimentally as a function of annealing time. Based on the assumption of carbon-diffusion-controlled growth in the initial stage, the growth equation is R G = K 1 t 1/(D-1), where R G is the radius of the graphite nodules, t the time, D the fractal dimension and K 1 a constant. Assuming cementite-dissolution-controlled growth in the later stages of growth, the relation is R G = K 3 t 3/D , where K 3 is a constant. The fractal dimension, or the aggregate state of the graphite nodules, strongly influences the growth process.  相似文献

It is shown that the compressive plasticity of a metallic glass, namely Zr52.5Ni14.6Al10Cu17.9Ti5, can be improved by the introduction of two symmetrical notches. The enhanced plasticity may be ascribed to a blocking effect of the propagation of shear bands caused by large stress gradients around the notches. In contrast to ceramic specimens with similar notches, the plasticity enhancement of metallic glass induced by notches can provide a new approach to understanding its unique mechanism of deformation.  相似文献

Al–Pb samples containing 1?at.%?Pb were produced by high-energy ball milling and investigated by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. The Pb inclusions embedded in an Al matrix exhibit a non-faceted, curved morphology. Dislocations have been found to accommodate the misfit of about 22% at the Al–Pb interfaces. Burgers circuits, drawn around these misfit dislocations, exhibit closing failures of the type a0 /4〈211〉.  相似文献

Although indentation does not induce apparent cracking in ductile materials, degradation of elastic stiffness of ductile metals has been found in micro-/macro- indentation tests. After comparing the predicted degradation by extended damaged-plasticity models with that measured by experimental testing, it is found that the softening caused by distortion of existing voids is inadequate to cause the notable degradation of elasticity. It is suggested that an independent damage-nucleation mechanism arising from shear deformation may exist. Although attractive in practical applications for its non-destructive nature, the damage-based indentation technique for estimating the fracture properties of ductile materials needs further investigation.  相似文献

The intragroup life and negotiation of creative differences in three diverse original music groups from New York City were explored. Establishment of a shared group ideology and management of organizational tensions, identified in Murnighan and Conlon's study of professional string quartets, appeared central in the bands' cohesion. The variable substitution and power-series techniques are used for the asymptotic analytical derivation of the governing equation of a transverse surface wave. The results reveal that the transverse wave can propagate along the surface of a functionally graded infinite half space in various modes, and that their dispersion relations are normal. For certain cases, energy is concentrated on the surface region to a depth of several wavelengths. A new theoretical foundation based on the transverse surface wave can be provided for graded-material characterization by experimental measurement. Some phenomena of seismic wave propagation may also be explained.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This paper considers the characteristics of severe plastic deformation (SPD) to estimate its efficacy and to compare different processing techniques. In contrast to effective strains by von Mises and Hencky, the rotation component of the strain rate is included in the analysis as a mode of deformation, which ranges from simple shear to pure shear. Distortions of material elements during a uniform plane plastic flow are calculated using a kinematic approach. For the fixed deformation mode, the current state is defined by the accumulated shears that are identical to the von Mises effective shear strains. In specific cases of pure shear and simple shear, the accumulated shears match the specific distortions of round or square elements prescribed by Hencky or von Mises approach, respectively. The mode of deformation is important to the structural effects of SPD. In general, two separated characteristics, accumulated shear and the coefficient of deformation mode, are necessary to describe strains during SPD.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Deformation bands, especially shear bands were intentionally formed in supersaturated Cu-4 at.% Ti alloy by groove-rolling with 75% area reduction. Cold deformation prior to the ageing process changed the precipitation behaviour of the alloy. The deformed structure with shear bands was maintained, without showing recovery and recrystallisation, even after prolonged ageing at 450°C for more than one day. The thermally stable shear bands act as nucleation initiation sites and prevent the expansion of discontinuous cellular precipitates. The hardness reached a value of 305?Hv and an electrical conductivity of 15% IACS (IACS?=?International Annealed Copper Standard. 100% IACS is defined as the conductivity corresponding to a volume resistivity at 20°C of 17.241?nΩ), compared to 283?Hv and 13% IACS for conventional solid-solutioned and peak-hardened alloy. In addition, the ageing time to reach the highest hardness was shortened from 720 to 180?min at 450°C.  相似文献

We aimed to examine the relationship among the muscle shear modulus at rest, maximal joint torque, and rate of torque development (RTD). Twenty-seven participants (28 ± 5 years, 13 women) were recruited in the study. The cross-sectional area (CSA) of the medial gastrocnemius (MG) muscle belly and shear modulus at an ankle joint angle of 0° were calculated using magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasound shear wave elastography, respectively. Subsequently, participants performed maximal isometric plantar flexion at 0° ankle joint angle [maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) test] as fast and hard as possible (RTD test). RTD was calculated from the time–torque curve over time intervals of 0–30, 0–50, 0–100, 0–150, and 0–200 ms from the onset of plantar flexion during the RTD test and was normalized by MVC torque to exclude muscle strength. MG CSA correlated significantly with MVC torque (r = 0.572), whereas MG shear modulus did not. In contrast, MG shear modulus correlated significantly with normalized RTD at all time intervals (r = 0.460–0.496). These results suggest that passive muscle stiffness is not associated with muscle force; however, higher passive muscle stiffness at a given joint angle may contribute to rapid force production.  相似文献
