Pour une approche contextuelle et clinique de la demande de recrutement : la transformation d’une demande initiale dans une entreprise familiale

Studies of psychology in the work place usually analyse job offers from an explicit and functional point of view, forgetting the more implicit and strategic dimensions associated with them. This activity of recruitment takes into account the understanding of the specific context of the job offer and of the structure of the organisation which is looking to recruit. The clinical case study described here takes into consideration these contextual elements of very small company and proposes recruitment methods which include a third party, emphasising the particular role of psychologists or consultancies as recruitment advisers.

Accompagner et instrumenter l’intervention dans une organisation en transition (SCOP) : quand l’intervenant doit prendre et trouver sa place

Our contribution is based on the observation in immersion of a collective of workers engaged in the struggle to take back its factory in Scop. We seek to understand, from the analysis of this intervention, what is the place and the role that the psychologist of work takes or is given in this context of transformation. From this perspective, the use of the intervention method has produced a large body of data that we have chosen to analyze according to the job four-dimensional model (Clot, 2008). We seek then to make visible our slippages in the use of this method, the interferences that may be the cause, the way in which they affect us, and what we can make of it. As we believe that these affects, however uncomfortable, can be transformed into objects of analysis to the benefit of the collective and its current activity.     

Ethics in Academia: Students' Vies of Professors' Actions

Although psychologist impairment has received attention from researchers, there is a paucity of empirical data aimed at determining the point at which such impairment necessitates action. The purpose of this study was to provide such empirical data. Members of Division 42 (n = 285) responded to vignettes describing a psychologist whose symptoms of either depression or substance abuse varied across five levels of severity. Results identified specific levels of impairment at which psychologists were deemed too impaired to practice psychotherapy, as well as significant differences between ratings of increasingly severe impairment. Practical and ethical implications of these results are discussed.     

Survey of School Psychologists' Attitudes,Feelings, and Exposure to Gay and Lesbian Parents and Their Children

Abstract

School psychologists' attitudes and feelings toward gay and lesbian parents were surveyed in relation to their training and exposure, and professional services offered to gay and lesbian parents and their children. The relationship between attitudes, feelings, training, exposure, and demographic characteristics was explored as well. A stratified random sample of 500 school psychologists who were members of NASP was surveyed using a 30-item questionnaire. Out of the 500 surveys sent, 267 school psychologists (53.4%) returned them. Overall, school psychologists have positive attitudes and feelings toward gay and/or lesbian parents. More specifically, school psychologists who were female, homosexual/bisexual, or living in the Western region of the United States had significantly more positive attitudes and feelings toward gay and/or lesbian parents. Although few school psychologists (30%) received any formalized training, those who had some training indicated more positive attitudes. The majority of school psychologists (89.4%) reported having personal associations with homosexual individuals. More exposure to homosexual individuals by a school psychologist indicated more positive attitudes as well as feelings. Implications of the findings and future research directions are discussed.     

Gender Differences in Employment and Salaries of Psychologists Within Medical School Settings

A survey of 3,894 psychologists employed within medical schools and academic health centers was conducted in 1997 by the Research Office of the American Psychological Association (APA) in collaboration with the Association of Medical School Psychologists (AMSP). This survey, published as the 1997 Employment Characteristics and Salaries of Medical School Psychologists, included inquiries about various aspects of employment (e.g., academic rank, tenure status, employment activities, appointment characteristics, department affiliations, demographic characteristics) and earnings. Employment characteristics and salary information were compared by gender. The findings indicated that men had more favorable employment circumstances and higher base salaries than their female counterparts. These differences existed across all academic ranks and were found at each level of experience. This article discusses these findings and their implications.

Editorial on Supervision

This Editorial provides background information to inform the report from the United Kingdom (UK) and Eire Association of Genetic Nurses and Counsellors (AGNC) Supervision Working Group on Genetic Counselling Supervision. We begin by introducing the context of practice as a genetic counselor in the UK and then follow with an overview of events that have happened in our profession that led to the need and creation of the report. Genetic counseling supervision has become instrumental to our practice, training and registration as genetic counselors in the UK.     

Some Accidents, Coincidents, and Intents: A Vocational Narrative

I offer here a narrative of vocation. It is not a psychological history, a mustering of affections and anxieties and aversions, a prowl through my unconscious. It is not a history of ideas, a recital of those connections or boundaries or passions of thought I have paused to notice. It is not a comment on other papers assembled here—which I have not yet seen—though perhaps it is a way of expressing appreciation for them. It is a chronicle of events and activities that have nudged me into one arena or contest or vocabulary rather than another.
