This ethnographic examination examines interpersonal, intragroup conflict between Southern Baptist pastors in the USA with
a focus on the factors that contribute to such conflict. First, literature is provided to demonstrate the history of the denomination,
reasons for relational intragroup conflict between pastors working together in the same churches, and information on the prevalence
and instances of interpersonal conflict. Second, this study employs qualitative research methods, namely in-depth interviewing
and participant observation. Through engaging in interviews with the participants, statements were elicited from six Southern
Baptist pastors (Pastors #1, #2, and #3, and Outside Baptist Pastors #1, #2, and #3) on the nature, reasons, and prevalence
of such conflict between Southern Baptist pastoral leaders. As the sources of such conflict are diverse (i.e., historical
events, spiritual reasons, organizational conflict, interpersonal differences, etc.), I argue that qualitatively analyzing
and reporting on this subject is of value to scholars of ethnographic research and interpersonal communication in the religious
and spiritual realms. Furthermore, since the consequences of conflict can be severe (i.e., forced pastoral terminations, damaged
churches, failed spiritual missions, etc.), this study is important as it examines matters that give rise to conflicts. Finally,

This study aimed to link two fields of research: conflict management and forgiveness. Adult participants (n = 122) and a validating sample of significant others (n = 122) completed measures of disposition to forgive, conflict style, emotion management, and perspective taking; and multi-dimensional models of their relationships were tested. Disposition to forgive was most consistently associated with problem solving and yielding conflict styles. Greater perspective taking was associated with greater forgiveness, and greater problem solving and yielding conflict styles, as well as with lesser fighting style; and perspective taking fully or partially mediated the relationship between ability to repair emotions and dispositions to forgive and problem solve during conflict. The purpose of the current study was to examine communication about sexual topics between preadolescents and their mothers
and fathers. Participants were 135 African-American mothers, fathers, and their 9- to 12-year-old offspring. Each member of
the triad completed a 10-item measure of communication about risk factors for sexual activity, sexual communication, and sexual
risk prevention. A majority of parents and their preadolescents reported communication had occurred about most topics. Mothers
and fathers were equally likely to communicate with sons whereas mothers were more likely to communicate with daughters than
were fathers. Based on the study results, preadolescence may be the optimal time for parents to provide sexual risk prevention
messages to their children before sexual behaviors are initiated. 相似文献

As a consequence of domestication, dogs have a special readiness for communication with humans. We here investigate whether
a dog might be able to acquire and consistently produce a set of arbitrary signs in her communication with humans, as was
demonstrated in “linguistic” individuals of several species. A female mongrel dog was submitted to a training schedule in
which, after basic command training and after acquiring the verbal labels of rewarding objects or activities, she learned
to ask for such objects or activities by selecting lexigrams and pressing keys on a keyboard. Systematic records taken during
spontaneous interaction with one of the experimenters showed that lexigrams were used in an appropriate, intentional way,
in accordance with the immediate motivational context. The dog only utilized the keyboard in the experimenter’s presence and
gazed to him more frequently after key pressing than before, an indication that lexigram use did have communicative content.
Results suggest that dogs may be able to learn a conventional system of signs associated to specific objects and activities,
functionally analogous to spontaneous soliciting behaviors and point to the potential fruitfulness of the keyboard/lexigram
procedure for studying dog communication and cognition. This is the first report to systematically analyze the learning of
arbitrary sign production in dogs.

Despite clinical sensitivity when listening to patients, analysts have not fared well in hearing and talking to each other with respectful open‐mindedness. Underlying factors are considered with particular focus on the interplay between self‐aimed forces of narcissism and outward‐aimed forces of curiosity. Included in examination of problems of collegial communication are limitations structurally inherent to the human mind (such as the need to abstract aspects of experience in order to focus attention plus the mind’s tendency to categorical thinking), those derived from individual psychology (such as vulnerability of self‐esteem), and those related to group dynamics (such as the problems attendant to new ideas and the allegiances they stir, parochialism and the development of radical schools, the competitiveness between schools). The contribution of cultural influences and the multiply determined uses of language are also highlighted. The core sense of smallness in the strangeness of the universe and in the presence of others is seen as a common thread. 相似文献
