This article challenges the importance and necessity of confidentiality, which are often taken for granted, and questions
whether the default promise of confidentiality to all participants, particularly in educational research, could in fact be
an unnecessary concern. This article begins by reviewing the difference in the way confidentiality is handled in different
fields and the applicability of some underlying assumptions. This is followed by an explanation of why confidentiality is
investigated in the sense of anonymity in this article. Then the article draws on an empirical study where original researchers
and their original participants were interviewed about their views on anonymity. Lastly, the contradiction between the promises
of confidentiality and the recognition of a participant’s contribution is highlighted. The article concludes with a call for
more empirical observation and investigation into the importance of confidentiality.

What is privacy? What does privacy mean in relation to biobanking, in what way do the participants have an interest in privacy, (why) is there a right to privacy, and how should the privacy issue be regulated when it comes to biobank research? A relational view of privacy is argued for in this article, which takes as its basis a general discussion of several concepts of privacy and attempts at grounding privacy rights. In promoting and protecting the rights that participants in biobank research might have to privacy, it is argued that their interests should be related to the specific context of the provision and reception of health care that participation in biobank research is connected with. Rather than just granting participants an exclusive right to or ownership of their health information, which must be waived in order to make biobank research possible, the privacy aspect of health information should be viewed in light of the moral rights and duties that accompany any involvement in a research based system of health services. 相似文献

Within the social constructionist (narrative, solution-focused and collaborative language systems) therapies, therapists have
increasingly focused on identifying and mobilizing clients’ resources and competencies. How such client resources and competencies
are identified and elaborated can be considered empirical matters for analysts of therapeutic discourse. The present paper
examines resourceful sequences of dialogue in 12 single session lifestyle consultations for how counsellors conversationally
engaged consultees, and for what transpired within these sequences of dialogue. These sequences were micro-analyzed using
conversation analysis and retrospective comments from consultees and therapists involved in these sequences were solicited
using a videotaped replay procedure known as comprehensive process analysis [Elliott (1989). In M. Packer & R. B. Addison (Eds.), Entering the circle: Hermeneutic investigation in psychology (pp. 165–184). Albany, NY: SUNY Press]. The combined conversation analyses and related comments for three of the 23 videotaped
passages analyzed are reported with the aim of enhancing therapists’ conversational practices in hosting resourceful dialogues
with clients.

The article presents a synopsis on rational-emotive behavior therapy (REBT), its fundamental theoretical framework, its applications,
and future directions. The paper is organized according to the following structure: in part one, REBT fundamental/basic research
is discussed; in the second part clinical/applied research in REBT is presented, including aspects of efficacy and effectiveness,
discrimination of disorders for which REBT works most effectively, and its relations to other therapies. Uses and misuses
of REBT and their impact on research and future developments are presented as well. While it is true that REBT research has
many shortcomings, the overgeneralization and/or magnification of the negative, and the minimization of the positive are dysfunctional
beliefs that maintain the false idea in the field that REBT has few empirical studies and that REBT research is in serious
trouble. A balanced approach, analyzing both the strengths and weakness, suggest that REBT has hundreds of research articles
and that high-quality studies tend to support REBT’s basic theory and efficacy. However, to strengthen this conclusion and
to fully explore the potential of REBT, shortcomings of REBT research need to be corrected, and high-quality studies promoted.
This is particularly important since, although effective, cognitive-behavioral psychotherapies have not yet reached “the desired
standard” of efficacy and effectiveness, as about 30–40% of people are still nonresponsive to these interventions Thus, REBT
could be a platform of reinvigorating empirical studies on the efficacy/effectiveness and theory of cognitive-behavioral models
of psychopathology and human functioning.

This is an account of the evolution of ideas and the confluence of support and vision that has eventuated in the founding
of the Journal of Empirical Research on Human Research Ethics (JERHRE). Many factors have contributed to the creation of this
rather atypical academic journal, including a scientific and administrative culture that finally saw the need for it, modern
electronic technology, individuals across the world who were committed to somehow finding common ground between researchers
and those charged with ethical oversight of research, a network of helpful colleagues, and a university whose administration
gave moral support to the endeavor in a time of fiscal austerity. Perhaps equally important were the decisions to make JERHRE
a nonprofit undertaking, to emphasize the implications of empirical research for specific best practices, to serve the educational
needs of those concerned with human research, and to seek to stimulate the interest of students in gaining an evidence-based
understanding of the research contexts in which they decide to work. This article explores the ‘chemistry’ that has made it
possible to develop a somewhat unorthodox journal and set of related activities. 相似文献

The study identified independent individual, family, and neighborhood correlates of children's physical aggression and prosocial
behavior. Participants were 2,745 2–11-year olds nested in 1,982 families, which were themselves nested in 96 Canadian neighborhoods.
Hierarchical linear modeling showed that the total variation explained by the three-level model was 28.03% for physical aggression
and 17.57% for prosocial behavior. For both childhood behaviors, approximately 66% of this explained variance was between
individuals and up to 30% was between families. The smallest amount of observed variation was between neighborhoods. Significant
individual-level predictors common to both childhood behaviors were child's sex and maternal hostility toward the target child.
Specifically, boys had more mother-reported physical aggression and less prosocial behavior. Children who experienced greater-than-average
maternal hostility (compared to siblings) were more physically aggressive and less prosocial. At the family level, significant
common predictors were mother depressed mood and punitive parenting. Children had higher levels of physical aggression and
lower levels of prosocial behavior in families where mothers had greater depressed mood and used more punitive parenting practices.
At the neighborhood level, greater perceived problems and lower poverty level were associated with higher levels of physical
aggression. Results are discussed with reference to past and future studies of multilevel effects on children's socialization. 相似文献

This article explores the relationship between the therapist as an eclectic clinician and the therapist as researcher. The process of finding a well-grounded place for my heuristic inquiry in academic discourse is compared with the struggle to find unity and integrity in the counselling of a client using many modalities. The intellectual and emotional struggle in either case is similar. It is posited that the engagement of students of counselling in research, therefore, has a clinical as well as an academic purpose, but that this benefit needs to be made explicit. 相似文献
