The “impact factor style of thinking”: A new theoretical framework

Over the last few years, university policy in developed countries has placed too much emphasis on assessing publications on the basis of the impact factor. Any scientific material that has not been published in a journal indexed in the Journal Citation Reports is academically irrelevant. Hence, researchers strive hard to publish in such journals. Failure to achieve this means not having a successful career or receiving any academic recognition. A thorough analysis of the effects of this phenomenon on the researcher community leads to the conclusion that the overestimation of the impact factor is likely to cause disappointment among many researchers. Researchers only have two options: adopting a politically correct behavior, that is, following the “impact factor style of thinking”, or accepting the futility of their research regardless of its relevance. This is an example of the involvement of university policy habitus obsessed impact index. O policy impact index is accepted, or is doomed to academic ostracism, and exclusion from participation in all university policy.     

Identidad e intimidad en la adolescencia: ¿procesos secuenciales o concomitantes?

Resumen

La teoría de Erikson considera que el acceso a las relaciones íntimas está condicionado por el logro de una identidad personal estable y segura. Sin embargo, trabajos recientes han afirmado que se puede tratar más de dos fenómenos concomitantes que secuenciales. Este estudio pretende contribuir a la clarificación de estas tendencias desde un marco de relaciones de pareja. La muestra era de 370 adolescentes estudiantes con edades comprendidas entre los 16 y 20 años. Las variables utilizadas fueron la identidad personal, la situación relational y la intimidad experimentada en las relaciones.

Los resultados muestran que el establecimien to de relaciones de pareja y la intimidad experimentada en las mismas, están muy relacionadas con la adquisición de la identidad en las mujeres, pero que sería un proceso relativamente independiente en los hombres. Estos resultados se discuten en términos de diferentes procesos de socialización que todavía se mantienen para hombres y mujeres.     

Synchronistic mind‐matter correlations in therapeutic practice: a commentary on Connolly (2015)

This commentary adds some ideas and refinements to the inspiring discussion in a recent paper by Connolly ( 2015 ) that makes use of a dual‐aspect framework developed by us earlier. One key point is that exceptional experiences (of which synchronicities are a special case) cannot in general be identified with experiences of non‐categorial or acategorial mental states. In fact, most exceptional experiences reported in the literature are experiences of categorial states. Conversely, there are non‐categorial and acategorial states whose experience is not exceptional. Moreover, the psychodynamics of a synchronistic experience contain a subtle mesh of interacting processes pertaining to categorial, non‐categorial and acategorial domains. We outline how this mesh may be addressed in particular cases of synchronicity described by Connolly.     

Reclaiming “Natural Partnership and Communication”

The massive scale of forced displacement across the globe discloses the fractured state of the modern international order. Francisco de Vitoria’s theological approach to the law of nations, in the context of the Spanish conquest of the Americas, had a significant influence on this order’s development. This paper argues that recovering his innovative insights today can help refurbish a collective sense of international responsibility for refugees. Vitoria’s bold assertion of indigenous Americans’ dominion affirmed all human beings as members of a world commonwealth with equal claims to basic rights. The “right to travel” he articulated, by its orientation to “natural partnership and communication,” can promote refugee rights and global fraternity.     

Characterization of visual scanning while driving for the identification of drivers’ profiles

Assessing the driving skills of people with cognitive or visual impairments is often complex. The analysis of visual exploration strategies can be a good solution to identify the implementation or not of good strategies of information search in the visual scene (adaptation and compensation). In this study, we compared the visual exploration behaviours of 26 healthy, 19 glaucoma and 21 elderly participants. For this purpose, we used a driving simulator for which a visual field measurement test had been adapted to obtain measurements in static and dynamic conditions. The dynamics of the gaze was also measured. Our results showed that each of the three groups of participants had specific characteristics of visual exploration. Using a classification algorithm, we were able to show that it was possible to identify the group which a participant belonged to on the basis of the visual exploration’s characteristics. This finding opens the door to many applications in the context of driving assistance and training.     

Habilidades de segmentación y aprendizaje de la lectura en las personas ciegas

Resumen

El objetivo de esta investigación es estudiar las habilidades metalingüísticas de las personas ciegas y su relación con el rendimiento lector en el contexto de la discusión de las relaciones entre la conciencia fonológica y la lectura. La muestra estaba formada por cuarenta y seis estudiantes ciegos agrupados según el nivel escolar. Las habilidades metalingüísticas se evaluaron a través de tres pruebas de segmentación (omisión, comparación y construcción). Para determinar el nivel de lectura se utilizaron cuatro índices: velocidad lectora, decodificación, habilidades inferenciales y un índice general de lectura.

Los resultados muestran que el patrón de adquisición y desarrollo de las habilidades de segmentación de estos niños coincide con el de los videntes. Igualmente se confirma la relación de estas habilidades con los procesos instrucciona les, mientras que se diluye el efecto cronológico. En los sujetos ciegos, igual que ocurría en videntes y en sordos, volvemos a encontrar una estrecha relación entre las habilidades de segmentación y el nivel lector. Específicamente los ciegos presentan retrasos importantes, siendo más acusados en lectura que en segmentación. Por último se presentan, a partir de estos resultados, implicaciones para la práctica educativa.     

对影响病人满意度相关因素的医学伦理思考

设计调查问卷对深圳某基层医院实施病人满意度调查及相关因素的医学伦理分析。结果显示病人满意度不高,门急诊病人的总满意度明显低于住院病人;病人对服务态度、就医环境和诊疗费用等都较不满意。其中医院未能遵循及时、准确、有效、择优和自主原则是主要影响因素。     

青少年父母、同伴依恋与社会适应性的关系

对519个初、高中生施测青少年父母同伴依恋量表(IPPA)、自尊(SES)、中学生社会适应性量表,以探讨青少年父母、同伴依恋的现状,以及它们和自尊、社会适应之间的关系.结果表明:(1)青少年总体依恋质量较高.同伴的依恋质量高于父母依恋质量.(2)青少年的父母依恋在性别上没有差异;女生的同伴依恋得分显著高于男生.父母依恋的发展呈先降后升的趋势,初一年级最高,初三年级最低;同伴依恋呈先升后降再升趋势,但未见显著差异.(3)父亲依恋对青少年的心理弹性预测力最强,母亲依恋对心理优势感预测力最强,同伴依恋对人际适应性预测力最强.这种影响通过自尊的部分中介作用而实现.
