Abstract

An event in the life of Tchaikovsky occasions the possibility of the development of a wisdom prefigured in the story of the martyrdom of Sts Serge and Bacchus—a Christian view of the world which embraces gay legitimacy and commends vegetarianism. This wide-ranging essay seeks first to retrieve from its cultured despisers a vision of sex as flowering in enduring affectionally grounded relationships; and then contextualizes that vision within a theology that celebrates an inclusive creaturely enjoyment of other creatures as the proper end of life, and thinks of God as an implicate of prayerful living in the light of a hope against hope—in full acknowledgment of mortality and vulnerability—for a perfected world, to which gay sexual love, like all love, and vegetarianism are both pointers.  相似文献

Since it was coined in the 1970s, in the United States, the term “homophobia” has been invoked to define the prejudice against nonheterosexual orientation. Besides the US, the phenomenon has been detected in many contemporary societies, including Brazil. Prejudice against nonheterosexual orientation is strongly associated with the historical and social contexts in which it is embedded, which means that the term should not be used without a clear definition of its local specificities. This applies to the recent debate around homophobia in the Brazilian context. In an attempt to identify existing studies of prejudice against nonheterosexual orientations in Brazil, a systematic review was conducted in SciELO indexes, PubMed, PsycINFO, SCOPUS, and Web of Science. The articles were collected using the keyword “homophobia” and related terms, and “Brazil”, in the languages ??of the databases. The search returned 355 articles. Of these, 247 were removed because they were duplicates. The abstracts of 109 studies published between 1973 and 2011were analyzed. Thirty‐one articles were identified as relevant. The reviewed studies indicate that prejudice against nonheterosexual orientations is an evident and widespread phenomenon that is prevalent in various populations and contexts. Nevertheless, prejudice in Brazil is not homogeneous, and particular attention is necessary to the inequality of gender relations (sexism) and prejudice against gender nonconformity, which seem to explain, if not cause, most of the prejudice against nonheterosexual orientations. Although theoretically there is a clear distinction between sexual orientation and gender expression, from the standpoint of manifestation of prejudice that distinction seems to be more tenuous.  相似文献

SUMMARY

This article was first published in Archives of Sexual Behavior, vol. 7, no. 4, 1978, pp. 263–272. Prince admits to being attracted by the idea of sex reassignment for herself at the time of the publicity given to the case of Christine Jorgensen. However, the development of her philosophy that the central issues were to do with gender (the psycho-social) and not sex (anatomy and physiology) leads her to the view that it is perfectly possible for a male to be a woman without having sex surgery. She speaks out forcefully against sex reassignment, arguing that it is not appropriate for nine out of ten of those requesting it and writes of “so-called” or pseudo transsexuals. Susceptible transvestites are seduced by the publicity given to the topic into thinking it is the solution to their problems.  相似文献

Homosexuality is a challenging subject for the psychoanalytic community, which is now rethinking some of its basic theoretical and institutional assumptions. In recent decades psychoanalytic theory has changed, and the classical psychosexual model has been challenged. After a short review of major psychoanalytical theories of homosexuality, the authors focus on the existence of contrasting attitudes towards homosexuality. This plurality of theories and their clinical and institutional consequences stimulated the authors to investigate the relationship between the individual analyst's theoretical model and his/her clinical practice. The authors present the results of empirical research conducted in the Italian psychoanalytic community on the attitude of psychoanalysts towards homosexuality and the implications for cultural, theoretical and institutional issues. A questionnaire was sent to 600 psychoanalysts (206 of which responded), members of the five main Italian psychoanalytic institutions. First, analysts' personal characteristics and preferred theoretical models were investigated. Second, the respondents responded to statements eliciting their theoretical and clinical approach towards homosexuality. Results indicate that: a) cultural and theoretical background influences the analysts' attitudes towards homosexuality more than gender; b) there is a discrepancy between analysts' theoretical position and their clinical practice; and c) IPA institutes are more discriminatory towards homosexual colleagues than are Jungian ones.  相似文献

The author asserts that earlier theoretical assumptions contribute to the conceptual confusion about homosexuality in much contemporary psychoanalytic research. Bergeret's article, recently published in this Journal , is exemplary of this confusion. The author refutes his contention that homosexuality is not 'true' sexuality but merely a defensive, narcissistic fixation away from, or a nearly psychotic denial of, heterosexuality. He then clarifies specific areas of conceptual confusion regarding homosexuality still prevalent in psychoanalytic discourse that derive from earlier theoretical premises. These areas of confusion include manifest versus latent homosexuality, narcissism and bisexuality, oedipal dynamics and development, and transference and technique.  相似文献

In recent literature, Freud's relation with pioneers of psychoanalysis has been reevaluated. This paper describes the evolution of the relation between Freud and Ferenczi during their most controversial period‐1925‐33. The consequences of this evolution on psychoanalytic theory and practice are shown. The links between events of the protagonists' lives, their refl ections about them, and the resulting theoretical elaboration (e.g. on homosexuality, female sexuality, problems of separation) are also taken into account. This work is essentially based on their recently published correspondence.  相似文献

The relationship of sex, gender role attitudes, and sexual orientation to blame attributed to rape victims by 168 male and 220 female undergraduates was examined. Participants responded to a scenario that depicted the rape of a heterosexual male or female, a gay male, or a lesbian and completed the Case Reaction Questionnaire, the Attitudes Toward Women Scale—Short Form, the Attitudes Toward Lesbians and Gay Men Scale—Short Form, and the Male Role Norm Scale. Men assigned more blame to victims than did women, and they assigned greater blame to male than to female victims. Traditional gender role attitudes were positively related to victim blame and to more negative attitudes toward gay men and lesbians, which in turn, was related to more blame being assigned to homosexual victims.  相似文献

The formation of same-gender couple and parental relationships is described and analyzed from a combined relational and couple therapy. The parenthood transition of a homosexual couple into a family structure, that includes two biological parents and a stepfather, creates tremendous turbulence and crises. The couple link is transformed throughout critical and major changes from a two-ness unit into a four- one, which develops unique relationships with the mother and the baby. This paper presents how therapists can treat and intervene in both intra-psychic gender crises as well as inter-psychic breakdowns of the couple shared reality. The therapeutic processes highlight the transformative changes that the homosexual couple has to experience in order to accept the loss of previous accomplishments in gender identity and love relationships. In addition, therapy helps to disentangle co-joint couple objects while creating new shared spaces.Aviva Mazor, PhD, is at the Bob Shapell School of Social Work, Tel-Aviv University, Ramat-Aviv, Tel-Aviv, 69978, Israel (A-mazor@netvision.net.il). There are several reasons for studying sexual behavior in animals other than the human. Prominent among these is probably the use of sexual behavior as a model system for analyzing hormone actions on the brain. In this kind of study, lordosis behavior in the female rat has frequently been used as the behavioral end-point. Recently, the mouse has become a popular subject because of the availability of strains lacking estrogen or progesterone receptors. Animal sexual behavior is also studied for its own sake by biologists, by agricultural scientists and by those interested in the management of wildlife resources. Finally, there are some researchers interested in human sexual behavior who prefer to approach their problems through studies in non-human subjects, as they thereby gain access to techniques of experimentation impossible in human subjects. This is particularly important when the neurobiological basis of sexual behavior is the subject of study. Two striking similarities between humans and other mammals are the hormone dependency of sexual motivation and the fundamentally bisexual organization of the nervous system. In addition, animal studies have revealed how learning with sexual reinforcement can be an important determinant of sexual behavior. The role of learning has been largely ignored in human studies, and this has led to many misconceptions. Paramount among these is the idea that sexual behavior is associated with reproduction.  相似文献
