According to Hans Kamp and Frank Vlach, the two-dimensional tense operators “now” and “then” are ineliminable in quantified
tense logic. This is often adduced as an argument against tense logic, and in favor of an extensional account that makes use
of explicit quantification over times. The aim of this paper is to defend tense logic against this attack. It shows that “now”
and “then” are eliminable in quantified tense logic, provided we endow it with enough quantificational structure. The operators might not
be redundant in some other systems of tense logic, but this merely indicates a lack of quantificational resources and does
not show any deep-seated inability of tense logic to express claims about time. The paper closes with a brief discussion of
the modal analogue of this issue, which concerns the role of the actuality operator in quantified modal logic. 相似文献

The research programme of the philosophy of information (PI) proposed in 2002 made it an independent area or discipline in
philosophical research. The scientific concept of ‘information’ is formally accepted in philosophical inquiry. Hence a new
and tool-driven philosophical discipline of PI with its interdisciplinary nature has been established. Philosophy of information
is an ‘orientative’ rather than ‘cognitive’ philosophy. When PI is under consideration in the history of Western philosophy,
it can be regarded as a shift of large tradition. There are three large traditions at large, known as Platonic, Kantian and
Leibniz-Russellian. In the discussion of the position of the possible worlds, we have modal Platonism and modal realism, but
both of the theories are made in the framework of Western philosophy. In this essay, it is argued that possible worlds could
be seen as worlds in information, which is then an interpretation of modal information theory (MIT). Our interpretation is
made on the basis of Leibniz’s lifelong connection with China, a fact often overlooked by the Western philosophers. Possible
world theory was influenced by the Neo-Confucianism flourishing since the Song Dynasty of China, the foundation of which is
Yijing. It could be argued that Leibniz’s possible world theory was formulated in respect to the impact of the thoughts reflected
in Yijing, in that one of the prominent features is the model-theoretic construction of theories. There are two approaches to theory
construction, i.e., axiom-theoretic and model-theoretic. The origin of the former is from ancient Greece and the latter from
ancient China. And they determined the different features of theoretic structures between the oriental and occidental traditions
of science and technology. The tendency of the future development of science and technology is changing from the axiom-theoretic
to the model-theoretic orientation, at least the two approaches being complementary each other. To some extent, this means
the retrospective of tradition in the turning point of history, and some of the China’s cultural traditions might become the
starting points in formulating the future Chinese philosophy of science and technology. 相似文献

为探讨10~12岁儿童同伴接纳与社交策略的关系,以儿童如何调整合作性行为来适应未来交往意愿作为社交策略的操作定义,利用最后通牒任务范式考察儿童的合作性水平,利用提名法考察同伴接纳类型与未来交往意愿。190名被试以群体施测的方式完成决策任务和问卷调查。结果表明大部分儿童在最后通牒任务中表现出公平合作的行为,女生比男生的合作性更高。被同伴接纳或拒绝的群体表现出不同的社会策略,前者合作性与未来交往意愿同向变化,后者则呈相反趋势。被同伴接纳的群体的社会策略更能有效促成交往并保护个体利益。 相似文献

In spite of the fact that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights grants parents the right to an education in conformity with their own religious convictions, this paper argues that parents should have no such rights. It also tries to demonstrate that religious and cultural minorities have no rights to establish faith schools and that it is a child’s right in trust, to autonomous well‐being, which trumps any such claims. Faith schools, it is argued, represent a real and serious threat to children’s autonomy, especially their emotional autonomy. Recent summaries of psychologist James H. Leuba's pioneering studies on the religious beliefs of American scientists have misrepresented his findings and ignored important aspects of his analyses, including predictions regarding the future of religion. Much of the recent interest in Leuba was sparked by Edward J. Larson and Larry Witham's commentary in Nature (3 April 1997), “Scientists Are Still Keeping the Faith.” Larson and Witham compared the results of their 1996 survey of one thousand randomly selected American scientists regarding their religious beliefs with a similar survey published eighty years earlier by Leuba. Leuba's original studies are themselves problematical. Nonetheless, his notion that different fields of science have different impacts on the religion‐science relationship remains valid. Especially significant is his appreciation of religion as a dynamic, compelling force in human life: any waning of traditional beliefs does not mean a decrease in religious commitment but calls for a new spirituality in harmony with modern scientific teachings. Leuba's studies, placed in proper context, offer a broad historical perspective from which to interpret data about religious beliefs of scientists and the impact of science and scientists on public beliefs, and opportunity to develop new insight into the religion‐science relationship. 相似文献
