The recent turn to ‘material religion’ in the academic study of religion offers a new opportunity for scholars and practitioners to take the embodied, devotional lives of adherents seriously. In their new book, A History of the Church in 100 Objects, Mike and Grace Aquilina might be productively read as responding to this new openness on the part of scholars by presenting Roman Catholic history as told through those objects that have guided the practices of the faithful. Despite their protestations to the contrary, however, the story that they tell is still mostly determined by the authoritative interpretation of sacred texts instead of ordinary interactions with sacred objects. 相似文献

When analysts write about patients, they find themselves in a position of conflict. Their first loyalty is to their patients and maintaining confidentiality. However, they are also committed to advancing scientific knowledge in the psychoanalytic field. The attitudes and practices of 36 analysts residing outside the USA, who published articles using clinical material from their patients, are reported. Their attitudes and practices are compared with those of 30 author-analysts residing within the USA, who had been previously interviewed. Among the 66 analysts, geographic region was not a basis for distinguishing differences in attitudes or practices. Slightly more than twice as many analysts use only disguised material as regularly ask permission of their patients to write about them. The decision to use only disguise is somewhat more frequent for analysts who reside outside the USA than for those living within it. Analysts around the world are increasingly concerned about the accessibility of published material. More analysts have come to believe that it is necessary to ask permission before publishing material. Some analysts also believe that the request itself, and the patients reading written material about themselves, focus issues that are central to patients' characters and confl icts that can then be explored analytically. 相似文献

Elaborating upon Winnicott’s seminal contributions on the transitional object, the author proposes a conception of a transitional subject in which the patient comes into being simultaneously between private and public, subjective creation and material life, me and not‐me. By anchoring subjective creation in the real world (including the body), the patient creates a basis for authentic psychesoma as well as for both personal and symbolic contributions to the world beyond omnipotence, including the world of other subjects. In this sense, intersubjective life is seen as predicated upon transitionality, with the patient seen as simultaneously coming into being as a distinctly personal subject and, in part, as a symbol. Mereological nihilism is the philosophical position that there are no items that have parts. If there are no items with parts
then the only items that exist are partless fundamental particles, such as the true atoms (also called philosophical atoms)
theorized to exist by some ancient philosophers, some contemporary physicists, and some contemporary philosophers. With several
novel arguments I show that mereological nihilism is the correct theory of reality. I will also discuss strong similarities
that mereological nihilism has with empirical results in quantum physics. And I will discuss how mereological nihilism vindicates
a few other theories, such as a very specific theory of philosophical atomism, which I will call quantum abstract atomism.
I will show that mereological nihilism also is an interpretation of quantum mechanics that avoids the problems of other interpretations,
such as the widely known, metaphysically generated, quantum paradoxes of quantum physics, which ironically are typically accepted
as facts about reality. I will also show why it is very surprising that mereological nihilism is not a widely held theory,
