More and more research is showing how different environments can lead to greater or lower creative skills. The purpose of this concept paper is to introduce a novel application of the optimal-level of arousal model that could address inconsistencies present in the literature. After introducing possible definitions of creativity, I discuss the optimal-level of arousal theory and how considering the “arousal” and “mood changing” potentials of contexts could enlighten findings related to inter-individual differences, domain-specificities, developmental aspects, and gender differences. Among other things, this model will clarify the factors influencing motivation to display creative skills which could improve the external validity of creativity studies. Examples of the kinds of hypotheses that can be tested by applying this model in future creative studies will also be proposed. 相似文献

The present article is an attempt to give—in the frame of the theory of the organism-environment system (jarvilehto, 1998a)—a
new interpretation to the role of efferent influences on receptor activity and to the functions of senses in the formation
of knowledge. It is argued, on the basis of experimental evidence and theoretical considerations, that the senses are not
transmitters of environmental information, but create a direct connection between the organism and the environment, which
makes the development of a dynamic living system, the organism-environment system, possible. In this connection process, the
efferent influences on receptor activity are of particular significance because, with their help, the receptors may be adjusted
in relation to the parts of the environment that are most important in achieving behavioral results. Perception is the process
of joining of new parts of the environment to the organism-environment system; thus, the formation of knowledge by perception
is based on reorganization (widening and differentiation) of the organism-environment system, and not on transmission of information
from the environment. With the help of the efferent influences of receptors, each organism creates its own peculiar world
that is simultaneously subjective and objective. The present considerations have far-reaching influences as well on experimental

This study examined the effectiveness of a contextual intervention strategy paired with an existing packaged intervention on the ability to produce increased and durable social involvement among children who displayed socially withdrawn behavior and their peers. Using a multiple baseline design across three socially withdrawn subjects, results indicated that the combination intervention effectively increased social interactions. Results also indicated that the effects of the intervention maintained two months after intervention termination. General implications for the use of the contextual intervention strategy to produce durable treatment outcomes are discussed. 相似文献

Two experiments were designed to examine modeling influences on alcoholics' alcohol consumption. Three male alcoholics were paired with confederates, posing as alcoholics. In Experiment 1, alcoholic-confederate pairs participated in a 1-hour taste-rating task, which involved rating different wines on a list of adjectives. Experiment 2 consisted of 1-hour ad lib access to wine in a naturalistic bar setting. In both experiments, confederates alternated 15-minute periods of heavy and light consumption, drinking fluids resembling wine. The amount of wine consumed by alcoholics in each period was secretly recorded and the data examined on a single subject basis. In Experiment 1, two subjects increased and decreased consumption along with their confederate. The third subject followed the confederate's pattern only after the confederate demonstrated heavy consumption. All three subjects varied consumption with the confederate during Experiment 2, performed later on the same day. These results suggest that alcoholics' alcohol consumption can be modified by the social influences of modeling. The implications of this finding for the loss of control hypothesis and alcoholism treatment maintenance were discussed. 相似文献

Support for violent radicalization (VR) is a multidimensional phenomenon determined by individual, social, and contextual variables. However, how local contexts influence the configurations of risk and protective factors leading to the process of VR remains an open question. In line with a socioecological framework, this study aims to investigate local differences in support for VR and its associated risk factors (i.e., immigrant status, social adversity, depression, and collective identity) among college students in Quebec, a Canadian province with a variety of social and political contexts (i.e., Francophone Montreal, Quebec City, rural/suburban areas, and Anglophone communities). A total of 1765 college students (71% women; 73% aged between 16 and 21 years) completed an online survey. Mixed-effects models were implemented to test local differences in support for VR and its risk factors. Results showed that the association between social adversity (i.e., discrimination and exposure to violence) and support for VR varied by local context. Specifically, social adversity was a risk factor across all contexts but Quebec City. Although prevention programs may target common determinants of support for VR, they need to be tailored according to local realities, and in particular the level of social diversity and the relative prevalence of mainstream radical discourses. 相似文献

ObjectivesDisordered eating and body dissatisfaction are common concerns among athletes. However, these variables have been minimally explored in male wrestlers. Sociocultural influences can impact drive for muscularity, body satisfaction, and disordered eating, but it is unclear which influences are most prominent in this population. The present study had two aims: 1) examine the nature of drive for muscularity, body satisfaction, and disordered eating in collegiate wrestlers, and 2) investigate which sociocultural influence (general, coach/teammate, sport appearance pressures) most strongly predicts drive for muscularity, body satisfaction, and disordered eating.Methods and designThis study was cross-sectional. Participants included 103 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I male collegiate wrestlers in the U.S. who completed surveys in season on sociocultural influences, drive for muscularity, body satisfaction, and disordered eating.ResultsWrestlers had a high drive for muscularity and engaged in many unhealthy behaviors to lose weight; however, they had relatively high body satisfaction. Relative weight analyses showed that sport appearance pressures were the strongest predictor of drive for muscularity while general pressures were the strongest predictor of body satisfaction and restricting eating behaviors.ConclusionsFindings suggests that disordered eating needs to be addressed among wrestlers and potential influences to target. 相似文献

We evaluated whether contextual control over equivalence and nonequivalence and responding by exclusion can explain the outcomes of relational frame theory (RFT) studies on sameness and opposition relations. We trained nine college students to maintain and reverse conditional discriminations with X1 and X2 as contextual stimuli. In Experiment 1, X1 and X2 controlled derived stimulus relations (DSR) analogous to those controlled by Same and Opposite in RFT studies. These results can be explained by at least two hypotheses: X1 and X2 were cues for equivalence and nonequivalence and responding by exclusion, or for sameness and opposition. In Experiment 2, X1 and X2 controlled DSR predicted by the hypothesis that they were cues for equivalence and nonequivalence and responding by exclusion, and not predicted by the hypothesis that they were cues for sameness and opposition. The results of Experiment 2 and the functional equivalence of X1 and X2 with Same and Opposite in Experiment 1 suggest that Same and Opposite were cues for equivalence and nonequivalence and responding by exclusion in RFT studies. 相似文献

The social behavior of same-sex pairs of nursery school children was observed during two ten-minute play sessions. One half of the pairs played alone during both sessions, and the remaining pairs played in the presence of a passive adult supervisor. Child pairs who played alone were significantly less aggressive and exhibited a moderate but nonsignificant increase in the expression of positive or prosocial behaviors. Unsupervised pairs also tended to verbalize more and engaged in significantly more cooperative play. The absence of adults may encourage children to employ more mature social strategies to achieve a successful relationship with their playmates. 相似文献
