The Integration of Family and Group Therapy as an Alternative to Juvenile Incarceration: A Quasi‐Experimental Evaluation Using Parenting with Love and Limits

The current study employed a quasi‐experimental design using both intent‐to‐treat and protocol adherence analysis of 155 moderate‐ to high‐risk juvenile offenders to evaluate the effectiveness of Parenting with Love and Limits® (PLL), an integrative group and family therapy approach. Youth completing PLL had significantly lower rates of recidivism than the comparison group. Parents also reported statistically significant improvements in youth behavior. Lengths of service were also significantly shorter for the treatment sample than the matched comparison group by an average of 4 months. This study contributes to the literature by suggesting that intensive community‐based combined family and group treatment is effective in curbing recidivism among high‐risk juveniles. 相似文献

The go/no‐go with compound stimuli is an alternative to matching‐to‐sample to produce conditional and emergent relations in adults. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of this procedure with two children diagnosed with autism. We trained and tested participants to respond to conditional relations among arbitrary stimuli using the go/no‐go procedure. Both learned all the trained conditional relations without developing response bias or responding to no‐go trials. Participants demonstrated performance consistent with symmetry, but not equivalence. 相似文献

A recent report in Consciousness and Cognition provided evidence from a study of the rubber hand illusion (RHI) that supports the multisensory principle of inverse effectiveness (PoIE). I describe two methods of assessing the principle of inverse effectiveness (‘a priori’ and ‘post-hoc’), and discuss how the post-hoc method is affected by the statistical artefact of ‘regression towards the mean’. I identify several cases where this artefact may have affected particular conclusions about the PoIE, and relate these to the historical origins of ‘regression towards the mean’. Although the conclusions of the recent report may not have been grossly affected, some of the inferential statistics were almost certainly biased by the methods used. I conclude that, unless such artefacts are fully dealt with in the future, and unless the statistical methods for assessing the PoIE evolve, strong evidence in support of the PoIE will remain lacking. 相似文献

Purpose The aim of this investigation was to test hypotheses about meeting design characteristics (punctuality, chairperson, etc.)
in relation to attendees’ perceptions of meeting effectiveness.
Design/Methodology/Approach Two studies were conducted: Study 1 investigated meetings attended in a typical week (N = 958), whereas Study 2 examined the last meeting attended on a particular day (N = 292).
Findings A number of design characteristics (in particular agenda use and quality of facilities) were found to be important in predicting
perceived effectiveness. Attendee involvement served as a key mediator variable in the observed relationships. Neither meeting
type nor size was found to affect the relationships of the design characteristics and involvement with effectiveness. Meeting
size, however, was negatively related to attendee involvement.
Implications The findings help us to better understand relationships between design characteristics and attendees’ perceptions of meeting
effectiveness. Meeting organizers can use the findings to guide administration of meetings, with potential to enhance the
quality of meetings.
Originality/Value Meetings are a common organizational activity but are rarely the focus of empirical research. The use of two complementary
studies, to our knowledge, provides a unique account of the contribution of design characteristics to perceptions of meeting
effectiveness.

Activity schedules are often used to facilitate task engagement and transition for children with autism. This study evaluated whether conditional discrimination training would serve to transfer the control from activity‐schedule pictures to printed words (i.e., derived textual control). Two preschoolers with autism were taught to select pictures and printed words given their dictated names. Following training, participants could respond to printed words by completing the depicted task, match printed words to pictures, and read printed words without explicit training (i.e., emergent relations). 相似文献

Intensive early behavioral intervention (IEBI) for children with autism requires effective team work involving professional therapists, parents, teachers and others. It is important for all team members to employ a common conceptual and procedural vocabulary so that communication among them is clear, unambiguous, and effective. This article outlines the rationale of a small and practical vocabulary or conceptual toolkit that we have found useful in working with teachers and families in designing, implementing, and analyzing the details of behavioral programs to help autistic children learn to speak and understand language. Special attention is given to a heuristic device called the language matrix. Illustrative data describing the course of generative language acquisition by a child with autism taught according to the language matrix approach are included. 相似文献

Piccione and Rubinstein (1997) present and analyse the sequential decision problem of an “absentminded driver”. The driver's
absentmindedness (imperfect recall) leads him to time-inconsistent strategy evaluations. His original evaluation gets replaced
by a new one under impact of the information that the circumstances have changed, notwithstanding the fact that this change
in circumstances has been expected by him all along. The time inconsistency in strategy evaluation suggests that such an agent
might have reason to renege on his adopted strategy. As we shall see, however, this danger is only apparent. There is no serious
problem of dynamic inconsistency in this case. My diagnosis of the case under consideration is in many respects similar to
the one provided by Aumann, Hart and Perry (1997), but the analysis leading to this diagnosis is not quite the same.
