This paper presents results of a laboratory experiment, in which subjects made choices between public and private transportation when managing Personal Carbon Allowances (PCAs). The objectives of this study were twofold. Firstly, it was aimed at investigating the labeling effect under the social dilemma context. Secondly, it showed insights into the decision-making process when feedback about others’ choices was provided. A combination of the labeling effect and feedback helped individuals change their commuting pattern and increase the number of trips by public transportation under the PCAs regime. Feedback on others’ choices resulted in social learning and incentivized choice of public transportation more frequently in social dilemma situations. 相似文献

The endeavor to teach academic skills known as cooperative learningis of interest to behavioral educators due to its record of effectiveness, its use of behavioral procedures, and its relatively widespread adoption by regular educators. All forms of cooperative learning emphasize operations that encourage students to work together to achieve commonly held goals rather than competing with or ignoring the efforts of others. Despite the apparent soundness of the approach, the present commentary raises several issues. First, it states that some cooperative learning proponents fail to describe the behavioral processes underlying the approach. Second, it is pointed out that it is unclear whether cooperative learning is an independent or dependent variable. Given that cooperative learning applies group contingencies to academic behavior, the question is raised as to whether group contingencies do, in fact, produce desirable social interactions, and whether group contingencies are appropriate for academic behaviors. A concern is also raised as to whether the spontaneous peer tutoring generated by cooperative learning compares favorably with planned peer tutoring. Finally, it is claimed that the minor variations from academic group contingencies that cooperative learning proponents have introduced do not require identifying a new process. 相似文献

Could superior self-control explain the gender difference in reading achievement favoring girls? To test this idea, we drew on a unique population-based sample (N = 11,336) where self-control was measured in kindergarten using a multimethod battery of assessments. Girls showed substantially higher levels of self-control in kindergarten (β = 0.47) and outperformed boys on standardized tests of reading achievement in third/fourth grade (β = 0.20). Further, kindergarten self-control prospectively predicted reading achievement throughout elementary school (β = 0.37). Connecting these findings, our mediation analyses revealed that the female self-control advantage in kindergarten could account for subsequent gender differences in reading achievement. Our results suggest that early gender differences in self-control may represent a key pathway through which gender disparities in reading skills, vocabulary knowledge, and reading comprehension occur. 相似文献

Children’s attentional state during parent-child interactions is important for word learning. The current study examines the real-time attentional patterns of toddlers with and without hearing loss (N = 15, age range: 12–37 months) in parent-child interactions. High-density gaze data recorded from head-mounted eye-trackers were used to investigate the synchrony between parents’ naming of novel objects and children’s sustained attention on the named objects in joint play. Results show that the sheer quantities of parents’ naming and children’s sustained attention episodes were comparable in children with hearing loss and their peers with normal hearing. However, parents’ naming and children’s sustained attention episodes were less synchronized in the hearing loss group compared to children with normal hearing. Previous studies suggest that functional ankle instability (FAI) may be associated with deficits in the ability to sense muscle forces. We tested individuals with FAI to determine if they have reduced ability to control ankle muscle forces, which is a function of force sense. Our test was performed isometrically to minimize the involvement of joint position sense and kinesthesia. A FAI group and a control group were recruited to perform an ankle force control task using a platform-based ankle robot. They were asked to move a cursor to hit 24 targets as accurately and as fast as possible in a virtual maze. The cursor movement was based on the direction and magnitude of the forces applied to the robot. Participants underwent three conditions: pre-test (baseline), practice (skill acquisition), and post-test (post skill acquisition). The force control ability was quantified based on the accuracy performance during the task. The accuracy performance was negatively associated with the collision count of the cursor with the maze wall. The FAI group showed reduced ability to control ankle muscle forces compared to the control group in the pre-test condition, but the difference became non-significant in the post-test condition after practice. The change in performance before and after practice may be due to different degrees of reliance on force sense. 相似文献

Detecting in prior bearing faults is an essential task of machine health monitoring because bearings are the vital components of rotary machines. The performance of traditional intelligent fault diagnosis methods depend on feature extraction of fault signals, which requires signal processing techniques, expert knowledge, and human labor. Recently, deep learning algorithms have been applied widely in machine health monitoring. With the capacity of automatically learning complex features of input data, deep learning architectures have great potential to overcome drawbacks of traditional intelligent fault diagnosis. This paper proposes a method for diagnosing bearing faults based on a deep structure of convolutional neural network. Using vibration signals directly as input data, the proposed method is an automatic fault diagnosis system which does not require any feature extraction techniques and achieves very high accuracy and robustness under noisy environments. 相似文献
