Psychosocial Considerations in Sickle Cell Disease (SCD): The Transition from Adolescence to Young Adulthood

Sickle cell disease (SCD) occurs in 1 of every 400 to 500 African American births. Despite its prevalence, there has been a relative dearth of attention paid to SCD in the psychological literature. African American SCD adolescents and young adults, individuals at an already vulnerable developmental stage, are at increased risk for psychological distress and psychosocial impairments (e.g., depression and low self-esteem, poor social and academic/vocational functioning). Such difficulties often result in problematic adherence to medical regimens, and thus represent a potentially serious clinical and public health problem that merits the attention of psychologists working in medical settings. This article (1) reviews the psychosocial needs peculiar to SCD patients transitioning from adolescence to young adulthood; (2) applies a culturally informed stress-coping-adjustment framework to assess and address the psychological status, psychosocial functioning, and disease outcomes of these individuals; and (3) describes a culturally and developmentally sensitive, psychoeducational group intervention.

在厄瓜多尔政府的盛情邀请下,国际生命伦理学委员会(IBC)第七届会议于2000年11月7～9日在基多举行。来自50个国家的170余名学者到会。IBC讨论了两个工作小组关于胚胎干细胞研究伦理学问题及在人类基因组研究中发达国家与发展中国家之间的团结与合作问题的报告。几位专家召开了一次主题为“生命伦理学教育”的圆桌会议。IBC还就人类基因组研究中经济方面的问题召开了一次工作会议。     

免疫反应影响动脉粥样硬化进程的两面性

大量研究表明,动脉粥样硬化的发生和发展过程中,能观察到许多免疫反应。然而,免疫反应对动脉粥样硬化的作用却呈现为两面性;免疫系统的激活可加速动脉粥样硬化的形成和发展,也可表现出抗动脉粥样硬化功效。所以,适当的免疫调节干预,有望成为动脉粥样硬化的预防及治疗的新途径。     

胰岛细胞再生研究的临床应用前景

胰岛细胞再生是治愈1型糖尿病和胰岛β细胞功能丧失的2型糖尿病的根本途径。体外再生和体内再生两种策略都是通过将干细胞或其他类型体细胞分化或转化为胰岛细胞后发挥胰岛素分泌功能,从而治疗糖尿病。基础研究显示,两者存在着各自的优势和面临的问题。胰岛细胞再生治疗的临床应用前景尚需要进一步加以考证。     

非小细胞肺癌放疗时机和放疗方式的临床决策

放射治疗是非小细胞肺癌的主要治疗手段之一。大约有3／4的肺癌患者在疾病的不同时期需要做放射治疗。针对不同的患者可以选择根治性放疗、姑息性放疗、术前、术后、放化疗联合治疗等不同的治疗方式。从治疗技术上还可以选择适形、调强、立体定向放疗等。临床医生需要辨证地应用循证医学证据,针对不同的患者刺定合理的个体化治疗方案,以提高疗效。     

A neural implementation of multi-adjoint logic programming

A neural net based implementation of propositional [0,1]-valued multi-adjoint logic programming is presented, which is an extension of earlier work on representing logic programs in neural networks carried out in [A.S. d'Avila Garcez et al., Neural-Symbolic Learning Systems: Foundations and Applications, Springer, 2002; S. Hölldobler et al., Appl. Intelligence 11 (1) (1999) 45–58]. Proofs of preservation of semantics are given, this makes the extension to be well-founded.The implementation needs some preprocessing of the initial program to transform it into a homogeneous program; then, transformation rules carry programs into neural networks, where truth-values of rules relate to output of neurons, truth-values of facts represent input, and network functions are determined by a set of general operators; the net outputs the values of propositional variables under its minimal model.     

The thalamic dynamic core theory of conscious experience

I propose that primary conscious awareness arises from synchronized activity in dendrites of neurons in dorsal thalamic nuclei, mediated particularly by inhibitory interactions with thalamic reticular neurons. In support, I offer four evidential pillars: (1) consciousness is restricted to the results of cortical computations; (2) thalamus is the common locus of action of brain injury in vegetative state and of general anesthetics; (3) the anatomy and physiology of the thalamus imply a central role in consciousness; (4) neural synchronization is a neural correlate of consciousness.     

肿瘤免疫编辑理论与树突状细胞个体化治疗肿瘤策略的思考

利用树突状细胞瘤苗提高机体免疫系统对肿瘤的特异杀伤能力,已成为肿瘤免疫治疗中的研究热点。根据肿瘤免疫编辑理论,肿瘤免疫可分为清除、平衡和逃逸3个阶段。应用该理论阐述应用树突状细胞个体化治疗肿瘤的策略具有重要意义。
