To obtain some information concerning the antecedents of various forms of vocational interests, scores on the 22 basic interest scales of the Strong Vocational Interest Blank (SVIB) were correlated with 389 life history or autobiographical data items. Items yielding significant correlations were clustered on the basis of item content. The clusters obtained for the business management, science, and adventure scales are presented and discussed. The perception of subjective contours in visual displays that characteristically produce them among adults was studied for children between 3 and 6 years. Evidence for visually creating subjective contours was derived in two ways: (a) by means of direct perception, and (b) by means of recognition of the typically completed shape from among members of a matching series. With both procedures, there were significant age-related contours. A majority of 3-year-olds showed at least one instance of figural completion based on direct perception, and their average recognition performance was 60%. By 5 years, all children provided a clear indication that they had completed at least one figure by means of subjective contours, and their recognition accuracy was 100%. The overall findings provide age-related information that must be accounted for by theories of perceptual development; in particular, those dealing with pictorial perception. 相似文献

In two experiments subjects classified as being either high or low in field articulation (FA) performed a semantic integration task with high-information load. In Experiment 1, differences in performance between high- and low-FA subjects on an inference and recognition test were obtained when sentences were presented for 5 sec a piece but not when they were presented for 10 sec a piece. In Experiment 2, performance differences between high and low-FA subjects were eliminated by presenting only a specific subset of the sentences for 10 sec a piece. A patient with spelling dyslexia maintained the ability to write, spell, and pronounce spelled nonsense words and words that require knowledge of orthographic rules of language. He was unable to perform grapheme-phoneme conversions except after naming the letter involved. We propose that he uses a letter-naming strategy to circumvent the disconnection of visual areas from the area of visual word images and that his letter-naming strategy represents a compensatory cross-cuing strategy. 相似文献

Human motion is analyzed as a function of the temporal pattern of relative stability and instability of the body in relation to its supporting ground. The cognitive representation of an event unit involving human motion is described as some small number of relatively stable, preparatory motions, followed by an unstable, completing motion. Two experiments tested the coherence of the preparatory motion (s)-completing motion structure, and the visual conditions under which an unstable motion is encoded as the completing motion of an event unit. Preparatory-completing structures were recognized more easily than completing-preparatory structures. The offset of contour motion at the center of an unstable motion was found to be an important variable in the encoding of a completing motion. 相似文献

The purpose of this investigation was to assess the relative effectiveness of two prompt-fading procedures for teaching difficult visual discriminations to autistic children. Both prompt procedures involved within-stimulus fading where manipulation occurred on the relevant component of the discrimination. One procedure involved fading first along the S+ stimulus, while holding the S? stimulus constant. The other procedure involved fading first along the S? stimulus, while holding the S+ stimulus constant. Eight autistic children were each taught two discriminations, one by each of the prompt procedures. Results indicated that for all but one child, the discriminations were acquired significantly faster, with fewer errors, when the S+ stimulus was faded first. These findings are related to the literature on the effects of stimulus novelty on selection and learning. 相似文献
