In this paper, we propose a class of locally dependent latent trait models for responses to psychological and educational tests. Typically, item response models treat an individual's multiple response to stimuli as conditional independent given the individual's latent trait. In this paper, instead the focus is on models based on a family of conditional distributions, or kernel, that describes joint multiple item responses as a function of student latent trait, not assuming conditional independence. Specifically, we examine a hybrid kernel which comprises a component for one-way item response functions and a component for conditional associations between items given latent traits. The class of models allows the extension of item response theory to cover some new and innovative applications in psychological and educational research. An EM algorithm for marginal maximum likelihood of the hybrid kernel model is proposed. Furthermore, we delineate the relationship of the class of locally dependent models and the log-linear model by revisiting the Dutch identity (Holland, 1990). Despite abundant literature theorizing societal implications of algorithmic decision making, relatively little is known about the conditions that lead to the acceptance or rejection of algorithmically generated insights by individual users of decision aids. More specifically, recent findings of algorithm aversion—the reluctance of human forecasters to use superior but imperfect algorithms—raise questions about whether joint human-algorithm decision making is feasible in practice. In this paper, we systematically review the topic of algorithm aversion as it appears in 61 peer-reviewed articles between 1950 and 2018 and follow its conceptual trail across disciplines. We categorize and report on the proposed causes and solutions of algorithm aversion in five themes: expectations and expertise, decision autonomy, incentivization, cognitive compatibility, and divergent rationalities. Although each of the presented themes addresses distinct features of an algorithmic decision aid, human users of the decision aid, and/or the decision making environment, apparent interdependencies are highlighted. We conclude that resolving algorithm aversion requires an updated research program with an emphasis on theory integration. We provide a number of empirical questions that can be immediately carried forth by the behavioral decision making community.  相似文献

Consider vectors of item responses obtained from a sample of subjects from a population in which ability is distributed with densityg(), where the are unknown parameters. Assuming the responses depend on through a fully specified item response model, this paper presents maximum likelihood equations for the estimation of the population parameters directly from the observed responses; i.e., without estimating an ability parameter for each subject. Also provided are asymptotic standard errors and tests of fit, computing approximations, and details of four special cases: a non-parametric approximation, a normal solution, a resolution of normal components, and a beta-binomial solution.The author would like to thank R. A new algorithm to obtain the least-squares or MINRES solution in common factor analysis is presented. It is based on the up-and-down Marquardt algorithm developed by the present authors for a general nonlinear least-squares problem. Experiments with some numerical models and some empirical data sets showed that the algorithm worked nicely and that SMC (Squared Multiple Correlation) performed best among four sets of initial values for common variances but that the solution might sometimes be very sensitive to fluctuations in the sample covariance matrix.Numerical computation was made on a NEAC S-1000 computer in the Computer Center, Osaka University.  相似文献

The ISOP-model or model of twodimensional or bi-isotonicity (Scheiblechner, 1995) postulates that the probabilities of ordered response categories increase isotonically in the order of subject ability and item easiness. Adding a conventional cancellation axiom for the factors of subjects and items gives the ADISOP model where the c.d.f.s of response categories are functions of an additive item and subject parameter and an ordinal category parameter. Extending cancellation to the interactions of subjects and categories as well as of items and categories (independence axiom of the category factor from the subject and item factor) gives the CADISOP model (completely additive model) in which the parallel c.d.f.s are functions of the sum of subject, item and category parameters. The CADISOP model is very close to the unidimensional version of the polytomous Rasch model with the logistic item/category characteristic(s) replaced by nonparametric axioms and statistics. The axioms, representation theorems and algorithms for model fitting of the additive models are presented.  相似文献

Evaluation of genetic counseling requires a clear consensus about its objectives, which is not evident in published definitions and guidelines. This study aims to investigate clinical geneticists' beliefs and thoughts about their practice. Structured interviews with eight clinical geneticists addressed the aims, skills, and expectations of genetic counseling. Analysis of transcribed interviews revealed four key themes, with contradictory aspects: 1. Providing information that is objective, full, and accurate versus information that is contingent on circumstances and tailored to individual needs. 2. Eliciting emotion and dealing with it directly versus dampening down and containing emotion. 3. Communicating nondirectively versus directively. 4. Expecting to perform a range of sophisticated tasks while having minimal training in the necessary skills to achieve these. These results have implications for the nature of the professional role, the development of training required for it, and the evaluation of genetic counseling.  相似文献

Primary care in the United Kingdom has been advocated as an optimal location for the provision of genetic services for common diseases. Little, however, is known about general practitioners' own views toward this suggestion or the possible demand for such services from patients. To assess general practitioners' attitudes to providing genetic services for common diseases, and to estimate the demand from patients for these services, we used a single-page postal questionnaire survey of all 359 general practitioners registered with the Oxfordshire Health Authority; 339 (94%) responded. These physicians reported that a mean 4.1 patients (95% CI, 3.3–4.9) out of every 1,000 consulting them were concerned about their own risk of a common disease associated with a diagnosis in a family member. Half of the general practitioners (95% CI, 45–56%) counseled about genetics in the last year. A majority of general practitioners accept the need to provide genetic services, but far fewer are competent to do so. Although 60% (95% CI, 55–65%) believed they should be involved with genetic screening for common diseases, only 29% (95% CI, 24–34%) felt sufficiently prepared to take family histories and draw pedigrees, and only 15% (95% CI, 11–19%) felt sufficiently prepared to counsel patients about their genetic test results. Given the necessary training and information, 63% (95% CI, 58–68%) and 64% (95% CI, 59–69%) were willing to provide these services. Even with training and information, not all would be willing to provide these services, and lack of time may be a major deterrent. Practice-enabling strategies, such as computerized aids in genetics, may be useful.  相似文献

A new procedure is discussed which fits either the weighted or simple Euclidian model to data that may (a) be defined at either the nominal, ordinal, interval or ratio levels of measurement; (b) have missing observations; (c) be symmetric or asymmetric; (d) be conditional or unconditional; (e) be replicated or unreplicated; and (f) be continuous or discrete. Various special cases of the procedure include the most commonly used individual differences multidimensional scaling models, the familiar nonmetric multidimensional scaling model, and several other previously undiscussed variants.The procedure optimizes the fit of the model directly to the data (not to scalar products determined from the data) by an alternating least squares procedure which is convergent, very quick, and relatively free from local minimum problems.The procedure is evaluated via both Monte Carlo and empirical data. It is found to be robust in the face of measurement error, capable of recovering the true underlying configuration in the Monte Carlo situation, and capable of obtaining structures equivalent to those obtained by other less general procedures in the empirical situation.This project was supported in part by Research Grant No. MH10006 and Research Grant No. MH26504, awarded by the National Institute of Mental Health, DHEW.
