This paper examines how metaphors can play a key role in triggering individual emergence. Metaphor is referenced in two main ways: the enthalpy metaphor is used to provide understanding of, and guide, the process of effective conversation. Metaphor is also interpreted very broadly to define those images, analogies, concepts, models, and theories that define our understanding of the world and our perception. It is our perception that must change if we are to improve the future. The paper examines how sharing of appropriate metaphor through conversation can lead to collective emergence; and similarly, how integral conversation-with-self triggered by metaphors in (1) conversation with others, (2) other external stimuli, and (3) internal thought processes, can trigger individual emergence. The paper examines which of the three sources of trigger may be singly/jointly or sequentially the most powerful in their effect of triggering individual emergence, and under what context. The model presented is evaluated for the process of emergence of the paper. The reader is invited to participate in furthering the evaluation process. The author's own individual emergence is recognized as stemming from ongoing association with, and inspiration of, Bela Banathy, to whom the work is dedicated. 相似文献

The notions of finite and infinite second-order characterizability of cardinal and ordinal numbers are developed. Several
known results for the case of finite characterizability are extended to infinite characterizability, and investigations of
the second-order theory of ordinals lead to some observations about the Fraenkel-Carnap question for well-orders and about
the relationship between ordinal characterizability and ordinal arithmetic. The broader significance of cardinal characterizability
and the relationships between different notions of characterizability are also discussed.

The effect of question repetition within interviews on young children's eyewitness recall 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This study investigated the influence of question repetition and question type (answerable, unanswerable, or opinion seeking) on children's recall. A total of 136 children (5-, 7-, and 9-year-olds) watched a live 15-min presentation. One week later, the children were asked 20 questions that were repeated an additional two times within the interview. Accuracy of children's responses to unanswerable questions declined with repetition. Children were more likely to change a response to an unanswerable question than to an answerable question. Overall, children maintained the same answers to only three-quarters of the repeated questions. The most common pattern of change was for children to change their answer the second time a question was asked and then to maintain that answer when questioned again. The high percentage of changed answers within a single interview has important implications for forensic interviewing. 相似文献

Dietary requirements of Southern Plains wood rats ih'cotoma micropus nticropus, Baird) were studied by Richter's self-selection of diet method. Nine of 16 adult wood rats fed an array of four purified or semipurified foodstuffs plus water slowly adjusted to the dietary arrangement and thrived thereafter. The other wood rats exhibited nonspecific rejection for all items until death. Subsequently, foodstuffs from the array were mixed in quantities proportional to the mean daily intake of each by the successful selectors during the final portion of the self-selection period. Successful selectors and an equal number of experimentally naive wood rats were fed the mash for nine weeks. We examined infants’ perception of the intonational characteristics of yes-no questions and declarative sentences in English. Both infants habituated to questions and those habituated to declaratives preferred the question forms at test, suggesting that infants process these two sentence types differently. 相似文献

We hypothesised that the question‐behaviour effect, referred to as the influence of questioning about a given behaviour on its subsequent performance, is a relevant issue when exploring the external validity of intergroup attitudes. In a pair of studies, we have corroborated that merely expressing attitudes towards the Jewish minority affects people's relevant behaviour towards this group. In an Internet study, participants who first completed verbal attitude measures were more likely to donate to a Jewish organisation compared to those who completed the measures after making the decision to donate. Moreover, responses to attitude measures of various types and donating to the Jewish organisation were correlated when attitudes had been expressed in the first step. When attitudes were measured after the decision to donate, only the responses to the traditional anti‐Semitic scale were correlated with this behaviour. In the field study, in which the time interval between attitude and behaviour measures was introduced, no question‐behaviour effect was observed. We explain the results with reference to cognitive dissonance and attitude accessibility mechanisms and discuss them in a broader context of attitude‐behaviour research. 相似文献

Even though Questions Answering and Database Querying have very different goals and frameworks, collaboration between the two fields could be mutually beneficial. However, the different assumptions in each field makes such collaboration difficult. AbstractWhen Nietzsche is called a radical philosopher, it is (among other reasons) because he claims to call into question what other thinkers take for granted. In the article I concentrate on the way in which Nietzsche asks his questions, and how his questions (and the vocabulary which he uses to express his questions) develop through his writings. The article points out how Nietzsche gradually discovers his guiding question and how this search reaches its climax around 1886.
