Occupational distributions for sex and race comparisons for areas of Louisiana are examined through an index of dissimilarity, D, a measure of the percentage of workers who must change occupational categories for the two compared percentage occupational distributions to be the same. In 1960 the more urban the area, the lower the index; indices are higher for blacks for male-female comparisons and higher for females than for males in cross-race comparisons. These patterns hold for 1970, but D decreased for all comparisons, indicating a trend toward similarity in compared occupational distributions, but the ultimate limit is unknown.  相似文献

A 74-item attitude questionnaire was administered in six companies to 101 black and 87 white male blue-collar employees holding similar jobs in the same company. Differences between the two ethnic groups were not marked, both in terms of job satisfaction and in other respects; Where there were differences the black workers were usually slightly more favorable. The purpose of this study was to test the predictive validity of the Ramak-a vocational interest inventory based on Roe's (1956) classification of occupations. In this follow-up, 81% of the original sample, tested 7 yr earlier, was located. These Ss responded to a questionnaire which inquired into their vocational choice and vocational choice satisfaction, together with retesting of the Ramak. Results showed that: (a) The median interpersonal test-retest reliability was .412 for males and .401 for females, while the median within-the-person profile stability was .535 for males and .700 for females; (b) With few deviations, for each occupational field the Ss occupied in that field had the highest interest in that field; (c) With the exception of Arts and Entertainment in both sexes, for each interest field Ss who had the highest score were those engaged in that field; (d) The correlation between vocational choice satisfaction and the interests in the relevant field was .405 and .294 for males and females, respectively; (e) For both sexes, Ss occupied in their highest-scoring interest field were more satisfied with their vocational choice than those who were not. The effectiveness of the Ramak in vocational counseling is evaluated.  相似文献

A principal components analysis was applied to a 135-item pool of the Holland Vocational Preference Inventory, Sixth Revision. The sample consisted of a cross section of 100 men and 200 women college students under the age of 25 yr. An eight-factor structure was defined for each of the sexes which is discussed in relation to Holland's clinically based scales, sex differences and criterion groups as defined by choice of major subject. The a priori clinical scales were partially upheld with differences attributed to the characteristics of the sample and sociopolitical time context during which the test was administered. A new scale emerged relating to an interest in professions involving law and politics.  相似文献

In order to explore the function of imitation for first language learning, imitative and spontaneous utterances were compared in the naturalistic speech of six children in the course of their development from single-word utterances (when mean length of utterance was essentially 1.0) to the emergence of grammar (when mean length of utterance approached 2.0). The relative extent of imitation, and lexical and grammatical variation in imitative and spontaneous speech were determined. There were inter-subject differences in the extent of imitation, but each child was consistent in the tendency to imitate or not to imitate across time. For those children who imitated, there were both lexical and grammatical differences in imitative and spontaneous speech, and a developmental shift from imitative to spontaneous use of particular words and semantic-syntactic relations between words. The results are discussed as evidence of an active processing of model utterances relative to the contexts in which they occur for information for language learning.  相似文献

The present investigation was designed to study some conditions which facilitate the acquisition of behavioral chains by young children. Three experiments were performed. In Expt I subjects were required to respond overtly to the internal components of the chain. In Expt II an aversive contingency was imposed following errors. In Expt III instructions were added at the beginning of training. The results supported the following conclusions: (a) Requiring subjects to mark and name the correct stimuli on each trial increased the accuracy of performance; (b) introducing time-out contingent on incorrect responses depressed the error rate; and (c) adding instructions concerning a pending change in the experimental task resulted in a lower error rate following withdrawal of the instructional stimuli.  相似文献

Infants' discrimination of photographs of faces, as indicated by fixation toward novel targets, was the criterion used to evaluate familiarization conditions designed to facilitate the exercise of selective attention. Groups of 19- and 23-week-old infants were shown either pictures of different faces of the same sex, differing poses of the same face, or repeated exposures of the face that served as a test stimulus. The older infants demonstrated differential attention to novel over familiar stimuli during subsequent recognition tests, and an examination of their responsiveness during familiarization presentations indicated differing trends of looking activity.  相似文献

The theory suggests that for immature precocial birds, the stimulation from an appropriate imprinting object innately arouses a primary effective process that is hedonically pleasant. The occurrence of this process automatically generates (via an opponent loop system) an opponent-process which is hedonically unpleasant. When the imprinting object is withdrawn, the primary process rapidly terminates, but the opponent-process persists, unopposed, for some time. By assuming that the opponent-process becomes stronger with its repeated (or prolonged) arousal, it is possible to account for many of the motivational factors in imprinting. These include: (1) the pattern of distress vocalization that occurs when an imprinting object is first presented to and then withdrawn from newly hatched ducklings, (2) the reinforcement and punishment effects that characterize imprinting, and (3) the priming effects that occur in the context of imprinting.  相似文献
