The theme of this article is a rise in notions of a planetary community, and the tensions this evokes in global‐local and universal‐contextual debates. The primary focus is the realization that new visions are needed to respond to ecological dilemmas in a culturally diverse yet global world and interconnected Earth. Of the many ways to discuss this, I first consider the growing interest in and expansion of biodemocracy as a way to combine these dimensions. Insights and issues from postmodern perspectives follow this, surveying the suspicion of what lurks behind “global.” The next segment turns to ecological postmodernists who realize that a unifying path must be found for a viable planetary future. A brief and final section considers the Earth Charter to be an initiative responsive to postmodern pressures, and yet seeking a global vision and common ground for an emerging world community.  相似文献

This essay introduces the themes that motivate the three articles that follow. Their common aim is to explore the connections between the Earth Charter and the concept of biodemocracy with the intention of highlighting ways of thinking about the relationship between science, religion, and the environment in the twenty‐first century. Informed by the science of ecology and written by scholars of religion, the articles included here seek to integrate movements and ideas as diverse as postmodern thought, the much‐debated thought of Lynn White, jr. This study investigated the effects of a Tropical Climate (TC) on actual and imagined walking times. Participants had to execute and imagine walking 3 distances with or without a 10-kg weight in either a TC or an Air Conditioning (AC) condition. The motor imagery quality was evaluated by computing the isochrony index. The results revealed that movement times were shorter for imagined walking than for actual walking and increased with the distance of the paths in both cases. By contrast, the effect of the load increased actual walking times for the 10- and 15-meter distances without affecting imagined walking times. Importantly, the isochrony index was negatively affected by the increase in load and distance and the effects of distance were amplified in a TC. These findings showed that the environmental climate in which motor imagery arises can modulate the subject’s ability to build up the temporal characteristics of simulated actions.  相似文献

This article examines the effect of environmental harassment at work in the relationship between attachment to the workplace and perceived organizational support. A survey was conducted via a questionnaire with 304 employees in different professional sectors (commerce, healthcare, teaching, administration) in the public or private sector. Analyses show that (a) attachment to the workplace and environmental harassment at work are strongly associated with perceived organizational support, the former positively and the latter negatively, and (b) two dimensions of environmental harassment at work, namely manipulation of the work environment and manipulation of the personal space, moderate the relationship between attachment to place and perceived organizational support, reducing the effect of this relationship. The practical implications of the research are discussed.  相似文献

为探讨家庭环境和教师支持对中学生学业拖延的影响机制,采用中学生家庭环境问卷、学生感知教师支持行为问卷、基本心理需求量表、积极心理资本问卷和中学生学业拖延问卷对740名中学生进行调查。结果显示:家庭环境、教师支持和心理资本均对学业拖延有显著影响;家庭环境和教师支持对学业拖延的影响力相当,而个体心理资本的影响力更大;家庭环境和教师支持还能通过基本心理需求满足与心理资本的部分链式中介作用来影响学业拖延。  相似文献

A unique observational data set was used to explore quality at the point of service in after-school programs. Staff practices in after-school settings were represented on a series of unidimensional scales closely indexed to staff behavior. In order to account for heterogeneity of staff performances, pattern-centered methods were used to construct profiles of common staff practices. Results revealed six pedagogy profiles that were classified in terms of three broad types of performances delivered by after-school staff: (1) positive youth development, (2) staff-centered, and (3) low-quality. Staff membership in these profiles was not related to youth-staff ratio. However, results revealed significant differences between the profiles on the content of the offering and the age of youth in the setting.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine how distinctive patterns of unhelpful beliefs about sleep endorsed by insomnia patients relate to their presenting symptoms and treatment responses. A sample of 281 primary insomnia sufferers completed items comprising the Dysfunctional Beliefs About Sleep scale (DBAS-16). Their resultant scores on the four DBAS-16 subscales were then subjected to a cluster analysis, which resulted in the identification of four distinctive age-matched subgroups. Two subgroups were characterized by pathologically elevated scores on at least two of the DBAS-16 subscales, whereas the other two subgroups had subscale scores that closely resembled those of a normative sample. Subsequent comparisons showed the insomnia subgroups differed in regard to their insomnia severity, use of prescribed medication for sleep, depression and anxiety symptoms, and daytime sleepiness. Furthermore, comparisons of treatment outcomes (i.e. analysis of change scores and normative comparisons) across clusters showed that the subgroups did not benefit equally from a standardized form of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for insomnia. Findings demonstrate the contribution of specific sleep-related beliefs on presenting insomnia symptoms and suggest the potential usefulness of tailoring CBT protocols to match the needs of distinctive insomnia subtypes.  相似文献
