Some aspects of Anna Freud’s life reveal the existence of specifically adolescent conflicts, which can be tied to some of her theoretical and clinical discoveries in the field of adolescent psychoanalysis. Her historical input in the gradual construction of a theoretical corpus on adolescence has often been ignored. These links between biography and theory gave rise to a movement of conceptualisation, making it possible to develop a psychoanalytic metapsychology of adolescence: indeed, emerged such notions as asceticism, intellectualisation in relationship with anorexia and the struggle against the genitalisation of the adolescent body. Today, the Annafreudian school of thought has remained the main source of investigation and theoretical transmission of what is now called the adolescent process.  相似文献

In previous writings, I have argued that the 3-to-5-year-old boy’s emotional separation from his mother is the key experience in his development of a melancholic orientation to life (Capps, Men, religion, and melancholia: James, Otto, Jung, and Erikson, 1997) and that men’s religious proclivities (based on honor, hope, and humor) reflect this emotional separation (Capps, Male melancholia: Guilt, separation, and repressed rage, 2001). In an earlier article published in Pastoral Psychology (Capps, Leonardo’s Mona Lisa: Iconic center of male melancholic religion, 2004), I argued that Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa is the iconic center of the male melancholic religion, that it displaces the Virgin Mother Mary of traditional Christianity in this regard, and that the painting aids in the difficult task of transforming melancholia into the mourning of the lost maternal object. In this article, I argue that James McNeill Whistler’s painting of his mother plays a similar role in male melancholic religion, but with an important variation: I use Ernst Troeltsch’s classic church-sect typology to show that Leonardo’s Mona Lisa is the iconic center of the churchly form of male melancholic religion, while Whistler’s mother is the devotional center of its sectarian form.

A community-reinforcement approach to alcoholism   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
Several theoretical approaches to alcoholism exist. An opérant reinforcement approach was used in the present study to develop a new procedure that rearranged community reinforcers such as the job, family and social relations of the alcoholic such that drinking produced a time-out from a high density of reinforcement. The results showed that the alcoholics who received this Community-Reinforcement counseling drank less, worked more, spent more time with their families and out of institutions than did a matched control group of alcoholics who did not receive these procedures. This new approach appears to be an effective method of reducing alcoholism. An analysis in reinforcement terms is presented of the etiology, epidemiology, and treatment of alcoholism.  相似文献

The probability of successful discharge for long-term mental hospital patients has been found to depend on strong family and social relationships (Chapman, Day and Burstein, 1961 ; Chase and Silverman, 1943; Paul, 1969; Meichenbaum, 1966; Ullmann, 1967). Yet, long-term institutionalization often results in the weakening of these relationships. These findings suggest that successful discharge would be facilitated by procedures that maintained or restored these social relationships. The present study attempted to develop such a procedure, based on the principles of Response Priming (O'Brien, Azrin and Henson, 1969) and Reinforcer Sampling (Ayllon and Azrin, 1968). Response Priming views complex behavior such as family visits as chains of responses and states that the probability of the completion of the chain (visit) increases during later portions of the chain. The present procedure applies this principle by not requiring visitors to engage in those behaviors remote from the completion of the chain, but rather, by making visits available to them at the terminal portion of the chain. This was done by not requiring visitors to come to the hospital to visit the patient, but rather, by directly transporting the patient to the visitor's home. The Reinforcer Sampling rationale (Ayllon and Azrin, 1968) suggests that future visits would likely increase if visits were reinforcing to the family and the patient. Thus, the patients' behavior was analyzed during visits in the families' homes. Between visits, instruction was given to the patients for improving the reinforcing quality of these types of behavior for subsequent visits. The rationale was that the Response Priming Procedure would produce visits and the Reinforcer Sampling Procedure would show the families and patients that being together was enjoyable. The relationships should, therefore, be maintained and, hopefully, thereby increase the likelihood of successful discharge for the long-term hospitalized patients.  相似文献

Of all the applications of psychoanalysis to various fields, perhaps none has been as important – or as fraught – as the application of psychoanalytic insights to education. This paper re-constructs some of the early debates around psychoanalysis and pedagogy that Anna Freud engaged with during the 1920s in Vienna, when the whole question of what education should be became a central issue for politicians, pedagogues and psychoanalysts alike. The paper focuses on the period leading up to the creation of the so-called ‘Matchbox School’, operating under Anna Freud's guidance between 1927 and 1932, and describes the influence of pioneers such as Seigfried Bernfeld and August Aichhorn. Compared to her more well-known work at the Hampstead War Nurseries during the Second World War, Anna Freud's involvement with this earlier educational experiment is relatively neglected. Yet one can argue that this short-lived project not only laid the foundation for much of Anna Freud's later work; it also had some far-reaching consequences, both for psychoanalysis and for the practice of progressive education.  相似文献

From his obituary of Samuel Hammerschlag, we know of Freud's great veneration for his teacher of Jewish religion. However, not only Hammerschlag himself but his whole family had a formative influence on young Freud, who was deeply impressed by their humanity. This paper describes Freud's relationships with all the family members. In particular, it shows how warmly he felt towards the only daughter, Anna Hammerschlag, who was his patient for a while and whom he chose as a godmother for his youngest daughter Anna. By virtue of the crucial role she played in Freud's 'specimen dream' of July 1895 ('Irma's injection'), she also became as it were the godmother of Freud's magnum opus, The Interpretation of Dreams. All the known extant letters from Freud to members of the Hammerschlag family are published here for the first time in English translation.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted in which monaural clicks were presented to the right or left ear preceded by biaural verbal (Experiment 1) and musical (Experiment 2) warnings. After the “neutral” warnings, the clicks could be presented to the right or left ear equally often (50%); after the warnings which directed the attention to the left or right ear, the clicks could be presented to either the “expected” (67%) or to the “unexpected” (33%) ear. In Experiment 1 there was a cost effect for the “unexpected” ear and reaction times were significantly faster when the clicks were presented to the right ear. In Experiment 2, the musical warnings brought about a cost effect while no significant ear advantage was observed.  相似文献
