It is difficult to walk without vision to a nearby destination if there is a time delay between watching the destination and walking toward it. Indeed, path deviation occurred when delays were introduced before initiating straight ahead blindfolded walking (R. A. Tyrrell, K. K., Rudolph, B. G., Eggers, &; H. W. Leibowitz, 1993). The questions are whether the location of a 60-s delay in the walking path and whether performing a cognitive task during the delay influence the accuracy in reaching a previously seen target while walking without vision. Thirty young adults walked blindfolded and stopped when they believed they had reached a target at 8 m. Delays were 60 s in duration, were located at 0, 4, and 7 m, and involved waiting or backward counting. Significant differences were found between 0-m and 4-m delay locations for distance to target, distance travelled and path deviation (p < .05). Significant effect of backward counting during the 60-s delay was found at the 0-m delay for distance travelled (p < .05). The interaction between retaining visual guidance information during 60 s and performing a cognitive task likely influenced target-directed blind navigation. 相似文献

Many real life situations result from decisions taken by a very large number of decision makers. Among them, we may cite road traffic congestion, crowding during shopping, equity market behaviour, distribution of holiday destinations, etc. Furthermore, these decisions often depend on the optimisation of several conflicting criteria. In this paper, we introduce a new multicriteria tool based on Markov chains to model and manage these macroscopic phenomena. We first advocate that the AUML (Agent Unified Modeling Language) notation, even in its new version, is not precise enough to adequately describe protocols. This problem was long identified by Harel and we propose to follow his solution: extend sequence diagrams with a “prechart”, i.e. single out the initiation sequence of the protocol. This new notation keeps readability and intuition, but is also technically adequate and is given a formal semantics. It actually is a form of simple temporal logics, equipped with a game-based semantics, which is appropriate for modeling agent-based systems. We then go on to study its complexity. Unsurprisingly, the version with protocol roles is undecidable. The main interesting problem is to synthesize agents that follow the protocol described. Surprisingly, it is undecidable even if we remove roles, alternatives, loops, asynchronous communication, conditions, constraints, negations (already removed in AUML). The complexity of checking whether a society of agents obeys a protocol given in this trivial notation is also surprisingly high: it is PSPACE-complete, like temporal logic, while we show that this simple language is strongly less expressive than temporal logic. Notations in-between have the expected increase in expressiveness, but no increase in complexity. Interpersonal processes are a key target in counselling and psychotherapy. It is of paramount importance to sharpen their assessment using integrated methods. Hence, this methodological paper describes how fields of research in psychotherapy and neuroimaging can be integrated into one novel complementary neurobehavioural paradigm that can be applied to enhance our understanding of interpersonal processes in psychotherapy. To illustrate this integration, we present selected data from a pre–post pilot study where the authors assessed interpersonal processes in brief treatment for borderline personality disorder using the core conflictual relationship theme, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and outcome questionnaires. To do so, they measured individual changes in neural activity using an fMRI task pre‐ and post‐treatment where clients gave feedback on the emotional valence of sentences extracted from their own Relationship Anecdotes Paradigm interviews mixed with neutral ones. Most agents can acquire information about their environments as they operate. A good plan for such an agent is one that not only achieves the goal, but is also executable, i.e., ensures that the agent has enough information at every step to know what to do next. In this paper, we present a formal account of what it means for an agent to know how to execute a plan and to be able to achieve a goal. Such a theory is a prerequisite for producing specifications of planners for agents that can acquire information at run time. It is also essential to account for cooperation among agents. Our account is more general than previous proposals, correctly handles programs containing loops, and incorporates a solution to the frame problem. Grammatical gender is generally considered an early and error-free acquisition in French children. This article first examines how children cope with the gender attribution problem, i.e., how they determine the gender of individual nouns. We consider the plausibility and requirements of an account in which tacit phonological assignment rules are put to use to solve attribution problems and contrast it with a simple “masculine as default” strategy. Elicited production data from three experiments, involving 312 4–10-year-old French children and 40 adult controls, were found compatible with this latter scenario and to provide only scant support for the former one. Second, we argue that previous studies have overestimated French children's gender agreement abilities, and that French children's ability to make the article and the adjective agree can be assumed from age 7 onwards, but not before. 相似文献

Can Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients efficiently learn to perform a complex motor skill when relying on procedural knowledge? To address this question, the authors compared the golf-putting performance of AD patients, older adults, and younger adults in 2 different learning situations: one that promotes high error rates (thus increasing the reliance on declarative knowledge) or one that promotes low error rates (thus increasing the reliance on procedural knowledge). Motor performance was poorer overall for AD patients and older adults relative to younger adults in the high-error condition but equivalent between similar groups in the low-error condition. Also, AD patients in the low-error condition had better performance at the final putting distance relative to those in the high-error condition. This performance facilitation for AD patients likely stems from intact procedural knowledge. 相似文献

We reanalyzed the data from the study of Lamarre, Busby, and Spidalieri (1983). In that study, the activity of single neurons in area 4 of the motor cortex was recorded during a bimodal detection task in which a monkey (Macaca mulatta)had to respond as quickly as possible to a visual or an auditory signal or to both (redundant trials). Manual responses on redundant trials were speeded by the presence of both signals, as is typically found. The times between signal onsets and the first changes in neuronal activity were also speeded by redundant signals, but there was no difference between redundant-signals and single-signal trials in the time between the change in neuronal activity and movement onset. These results suggest that late motor processes are not speeded by redundant signals in bimodal detection tasks. 相似文献
