The Brief Symptom Inventory-18 (BSI-18) is widely used to assess psychiatric distress but has not been verified in the Chinese population. From March to April 2019, 293 hospitalized cancer patients, aged 20–87, completed the cross-sectional survey with demographics questionnaire, BSI-18, and PHQ-9. We analyzed the single suicide-related item of PHQ-9 with the full score clinical outpoint for BSI-18 and PHQ-9 using SPSS 22.0 and R 2.15, including Pearson's χ2 test and ROC curve analyses. A Pearson's χ2 test was carried out to compare the three different methods with the gold screening criteria. The p-value was correspondingly to .006, .066, .838. When the PHQ-9?≥?10 criteria for the BSI-18, receiver operating characteristic analysis revealed that AUC values were 0.839, optimal cut-off points for both BSI-18?≥?50, the sensitivity of 85.8%, and 62.5%, respectively. The BSI-18 is suitable for a screening tool for psychological distress and could also be used in clinical settings for preliminary screening of hospitalized cancer patients.

Escalation of commitment describes individuals’ tendencies to spend resources beyond the point of rationality in order to
persist in a chosen course of action, and most believe that sunk cost is the primary cause. However, it has been noted that
sunk costs are confounded with progress made toward a goal, and that sunk costs do not affect individuals’ tendencies to escalate
as all economic information is ignored in pursuit of the goal. Thus, the apparent escalation tendency may be a consequence
of goal proximity instead of sunk costs. In Experiment 1, I show that individuals’ tendencies to escalate reflect the goal-gradient effect after controlling for the sunk costs. Experiment 2 provides a psychological process model to explain why goal-gradient influences individuals’ tendencies to escalate commitment
by demonstrating that as individuals progress toward their goal, they exaggerate the value difference between the object that
they are pursuing and the object that they are not pursuing. This perceived value difference, in turn, influences individuals’
tendencies to commit escalation of commitment. Results suggest a new interpretation for escalation of commitment and new approaches
to guiding people to avoid it. 相似文献
How does prior context influence lexical and discourse-level processing during real-time language comprehension? Experiment 1 examined whether the referential ambiguity introduced by a repeated, anaphoric expression had an immediate or delayed effect on lexical and discourse processing, using an eye-tracking-while-reading task. Eye movements indicated facilitated recognition of repeated expressions, suggesting that prior context can rapidly influence lexical processing. However, context effects at the discourse level affected later processing, appearing in longer regression-path durations 2 words after the anaphor and in greater rereading times of the antecedent expression. Experiments 2 and 3 explored the nature of this delay by examining the role of the preceding context in activating relevant representations. Offline and online interpretations confirmed that relevant referents were activated following the critical context. Nevertheless, their initial unavailability during comprehension suggests a robust temporal division between lexical and discourse-level processing. 相似文献
The sunk cost bias occurs when individuals continue to invest in the same option when better alternatives are available. Many researchers believe that this bias is due to overemphasizing the past investment over the (missed) opportunities offered by alternatives. As an alternative or complement to this view, we show that memory retrieval and attention play important roles in the sunk cost bias. In two experiments, individuals generated more reasons for pursuing the invested option than for an alternative; they generated those reasons earlier in a sequence of reasons; and these effects increased as the individuals made progress toward attaining the reward yielded by the invested option. Associated with these effects, individuals perceived an increasingly wide gap in value between the invested and alternative options as they progressed toward the goal, thereby creating the sunk cost bias. Forcing individuals to reverse the order in which they generated reasons for the invested and alternative options reduced the bias. [corrected] 相似文献
