Initial evidence suggests that the employment of self-handicapping strategies has a beneficial effect on negative affective
states associated with the perceived threat of evaluative contexts (Harris & Snyder, 1986; Leary, 1986). The present study
sought to describe the type of self-handicapping behaviors demonstrated by youth athletes (N=238) as well as to assess the
stress-buffering role of athlete self-handicapping on indices of competitive state anxiety. Specifically, it was hypothesized
that among high trait-handicapping athletes, those who report a greater degree of performance-debilitating obstacles prior
to competition would demonstrate lowered cognitive and somatic state anxiety as well as greater state self-confidence than
nonhandicapping athletes. However, MANOVA results indicated that both high trait and situational self-handicappers demonstrate
elevated state anxiety immediately prior to competition. Results are discussed in relation to the possible role of state anxiety

Children in prekindergarten, kindergarten, and second grade were tested on a delayed match-to-sample task using abstract visual patterns. The patterns varied both in type of visual organization (unstructured, diagonally symmetrical, vertically symmetrical, and horizontally symmetrical) and in amount of contour. Following the initial memory task, we attempted to train half of the children at each grade by directing their attention to axes of symmetry; the other half of the children received a control task. Subsequently, the subjects were given a second delayed match-to-sample test. On both pre- and post-training trials, structure influenced performance, especially in the two younger groups. Vertical and horizontal symmetry generally facilitated performance in the prekindergarteners, while all three types of symmetry facilitated performance in the kindergarteners. In addition, children generally responded more accurately to patterns with lower levels of contour. They also made more like-contour than unlike-contour confusions, indicating that quantitative aspects of patterns were encoded. Group differences suggested that both processing capacity and memory increase during the age range studied. Finally, there was no indication that training improved performance at any age. 相似文献

本文追踪研究了两名儿童获得最初词汇的过程。结果表明:在儿童最初语音发展过程中,所发出的音节日益丰富、分化,产生了连续音节,随意性和指向性逐渐增强。儿童获得最初词汇的过程,是连续音节逐渐被有指向的词取代的过程。根据连续音节和有指向的词的比例及沟通作用的变化,儿童获得最初词汇的过程可分为各具特点的三个阶段。两名儿童的最初词汇在其词类构成和功能意义上具有很高的一致性。结合两名儿童之间的个别差异,本文还初步探讨影响儿童获得最初词汇的因素——言语中枢和言语器官的发展、认知的发展,并探讨它们之间可能存在的相互关系。 相似文献

Emotional labour strategies have a significant impact on job burnout. However, current research results are controversial and unclear. A meta-analysis was conducted to explore the relationship between emotional labour strategies (surface acting and deep acting) and job burnout. A total of 84 empirical studies that included 28,242 participants were selected. The meta-analysis of the relationships between job burnout and surface acting and deep acting included 84 and 75 independent samples respectively. The results show that surface acting had a positive association (r = 0.25) with job burnout, whereas deep acting (r = −0.27) had a negative association with job burnout. Occupational types and measures of emotional labour strategies moderated the relationship between emotional labour strategies and job burnout, but this relationship was not moderated by measures of job burnout. 相似文献

教师支持是师生关系的重要指标,由教师和学生共同建构;学生的学业和行为特征会影响教师支持,但是以往研究主要关注学生个体特征的影响,极少考察学生所在小群体的作用。本研究以个体和其所在圈子的学业成就、亲社会行为、攻击行为为特征,考察其对教师支持的影响,结果发现:(1)个体的学业成就积极预测后续教师支持的增加;(2)在高学业成就圈子中,个体学业成就的提高能够预测教师支持的增加,而在低学业成就圈子则不能;(3)与男生相比,在低亲社会圈子中的女生获得的教师支持更少,而在高亲社会圈子中的女生则能够获得比男生更高的教师支持。 相似文献

This study investigated gender differences in the relationship between creativity and academic achievement. A sample of 1082 primary students participated in this study in Beijing, China. Their age ranged between 8 and 15 years old (M = 10.41, SD = 0.99). Students’ creativity was measured by the Chinese version of the Torrance Test of Creative Thinking Figural Form A, and academic achievement was based on students’ self-reported grades of last semester. Results revealed that there was a significantly positive relationship between creativity and academic achievement, ranging from r = .07 to r = .21. Gender differences regarding which aspects of creativity were related to academic achievement were also found. Plausible explanations and implications of the findings in creativity research and education are discussed. 相似文献
