This research investigated the influence of smoking attitudes and norms on quitting intentions in two predominantly collectivistic countries (Malaysia and Thailand) and four predominantly individualistic Western countries (Canada, USA, UK and Australia). Data from the International Tobacco Control Project (N = 13,062) revealed that higher odds of intending to quit were associated with negative personal attitudes in Thailand and the Western countries, but not in Malaysia; with norms against smoking from significant others in Malaysia and the Western countries, but not in Thailand; and with societal norms against smoking in all countries. Our findings indicate that normative factors are important determinants of intentions, but they play a different role in different cultural and/or tobacco control contexts. Interventions may be more effective if they are designed with these different patterns of social influence in mind. 相似文献

This paper examines individuals’ reactions to the prospect of gaining or losing status in groups. The results of three experiments provide evidence that individuals attach greater value to status when recalling the risk of status loss than when recalling the potential for status gain (Experiment 1), are willing to pay more to avoid a status loss than to achieve a status gain (Experiment 1), and put forth greater effort when striving to prevent status loss than when striving to gain status (Experiment 2). Finally, individuals who risk losing status allocate more resources toward personal status concerns (and away from group interests and potential monetary gain) than do individuals who have a chance of gaining status (Experiment 3). We discuss the implications of this research both in terms of individuals’ psychological experience of their status, as well as status attainment and maintenance concerns in groups. 相似文献

Facial expressions of familiar faces have been found to influence identification. In this study, we hypothesize that faces with emotional expression are encoded for both structural and variant information resulting in more robust identification. Eighty-eight participants were presented faces with repetition priming frequencies of 2, 5, 10, and 20 (learning stage) and then judged the faces in terms of familiarity (testing stage). Participants were randomized into one of the following conditions: The facial expression between learning and testing stage remained the same (F-F), faces with facial expression shown in the learning stage were neutralized in the testing stage (F-N), or faces with neutral expressions shown in the learning stage had emotional expressions in the testing stage (N-F). This study examined the emotion and appraisal correlates of the needs for Competence and Relatedness. Using experience-sampling, fluctuations of competence and relatedness throughout a day's period were found to correspond to fluctuations in emotions and appraisals in ways theoretically consistent with the self-determination theory (Deci &; Ryan, 2000). Each need was related in specific ways to the six emotions examined (anger, sadness, fear, guilt, shame, and joy) and, more interesting, was characterized by a specific appraisal-profile. 以大学生即时通讯工具(IM)用户为被试,采用因素分析技术探讨了IM使用体验的结构,并建构了IM使用动机与使用偏好和使用体验的关系模型。结果发现:(1)IM使用体验主要包括功能性体验和情感性体验两个基本维度。其中,前者主要涉及控制感、易用感和卷入感等三个因素,而后者则主要涉及乐趣感、愉悦感和互惠感等三个因素;(2)基于上述模型形成的“IM使用体验问卷”具有较理想的项目区分度、内部一致性信度、构想效度和区分效度;(3)基于人际沟通动机的IM用户更关注IM的易用性、可控制性和卷入程度等功能特性,而基于信息获取动机和休闲娱乐动机的IM用户更关注IM的愉悦性、乐趣性和互惠性等情感特性。 相似文献

The effects of organizational culture on job incumbents' ratings of work‐related personality requirements were investigated. Data collected from 270 customer service representatives working within 37 mobile phone service companies in China demonstrated significant between‐organization differences and sufficient within‐organization agreement on two dimensions of work‐related personality requirements, achievement orientation and conscientiousness, to suggest that these work‐related personality requirements can be interpreted as organizational‐level constructs. Furthermore, incumbents' ratings of the two personality requirements were positively related to two corresponding dimensions of organizational culture, achievement‐oriented culture and integrity‐oriented culture, respectively, and as predicted, both were positively associated with team‐oriented culture. Further analyses revealed that team‐oriented culture appeared to play a particularly salient role in predicting incumbents' perceptions about the importance of the two dimensions of personality requirements. 相似文献
