The paper reviews and discusses a number of issues relating to the use of computer technology to assist the process of assessing psychologically relevant variables — computer-assisted diagnostics. A definition of computer-assisted diagnostics is given and theoretical developments are discussed. The paper emphasizes the need to consider theoretical issues relating to a number of domains: theory of content, test theory, human—computer interaction, programming theory, instructional theory, normative theory and situation theory. Summary The goal-setting approach to task motivation is applied to examine the way in which subjects control their performance on two concurrently performed tasks under the guidance of different goals in a dual-task situation. The tasks were a simple auditory-manual reaction time (RT) task and a visual-manual pursuit-tracking task. The goal conditions assigned alternatively to the tasks differed with respect to goal specificity and feedback information (KR) given after the trials. It is shown that the improvement of performance in the task with hard, specific goals is achieved in both cases at the cost of the concurrently performed other task which, on the basis of a lack of feedback and a rather unspecific goal instruction, should have a lower priority. The data reveal some strategies hidden behind these overall changes of the average performance at both tasks. For the RT task, the adjustment to the different goals is mainly achieved by changes in the temporal control or preparatory processes as can be inferred from the RT distributions as well as from the analysis of some typical errors. For the tracking task, changes in the tracking accuracy within the overlapping RT intervals are the best indicators for the performance control under the different goal conditions.This research was supported by a grant from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (Kl 408/4-2)  相似文献

Objective: The diagnosis of a life-threatening illness can trigger end-of-life fears. Early studies show that end-of-life fears play an important role in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, predictors of these fears have not yet been identified. This study investigated the relevance of socio-demographic variables, illness severity, psychological distress and disease-specific anxieties as predictors of end-of-life fears in COPD.

Design: A total of 131 COPD patients participated at two time points. Regression and mediation analyses, as well as cross-lagged panel analyses were conducted.

Main outcome measures: The participants completed questionnaires assessing end-of-life fears (Multidimensional Orientation toward Dying and Death Inventory), psychological distress (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale), and disease-specific anxieties (COPD Anxiety Questionnaire). Pulmonary function and a 6-min walk test served as measures of illness severity.

Results: Illness severity was not predictive of end-of-life fears. However, gender and psychological distress explained incremental variance. When disease-specific anxieties were included as additional predictors, psychological distress was no longer significant. Cross-lagged panel analyses mostly supported these results. Moreover, disease-specific anxieties mediated the association between psychological distress and end-of-life fears.

Conclusion: Administration and intensity of end-of-life care (especially concerning end-of-life fears) in COPD patients should be based not only on illness severity, but rather on psychological distress and disease-specific anxieties.  相似文献

The present study proposed and tested a conceptual model of acculturation/enculturation and subjective well-being (SWB) by including social connectedness in mainstream society, social connectedness in the ethnic community, perceived discrimination, and expected social status as mediators. Survey data from 273 Asian American college students in the midwest were analyzed by using structural equation modeling. Results indicated that the effect of acculturation on SWB was mediated by social connectedness in mainstream and ethnic communities and expected social status, whereas the effect of enculturation on SWB was mediated by social connectedness in the ethnic community and expected social status. Contrary to the authors' hypothesis, perceived discrimination did not mediate the relation of acculturation and SWB, but indirectly influenced SWB via a lowered sense of connectedness to mainstream society. Approximately 46% of the variance in SWB was accounted for by the variables included in this model. Implications for theory, research, and practice are discussed.  相似文献
