In Experiment I sixth-grade children learned two concept identification (CI) problems, a simple and a successive-reversal problem, either sequentially (Se) or concurrently (Con). Retention tests given during the CI problems indicated no significant differences in stimulus or response retention for any of the conditions. CI performance was poorer in the Con condition than in the Se condition. Contrary to adult data and predictions derived from the Bower and Trabasso (1964) model, there were fewer informed errors in the successive-reversal problem than the simple problem.  相似文献

Creativity serves not only an aesthetic function but also psychological self-repair for the creative artist. The authors examine the failure of Sylvia Plath's efforts to control her suicidal violence and to bridge her isolation from others via the shared affective experience of poetry. At first, she used traditional forms and mediated images, but when she abandoned them for a more personal expressive art, she lost the shaping, controlling devices she had been using for self-containment and self-repair. They were no longer available to her when she underwent a sweeping narcissistic regression following some very stressful life events. This paper describes a click-free audio switch that functions by controlling the rate of onset and decay of a signal. Thirty-seven subjects with the Type A or the Type B behavior pattern were first either angered or not angered in a problem-solving task by a confederate who posed as another subject. In a subsequent bogus learning experiment, the Type A and Type B subjects had the opportunity to punish or reward the confederate. The effectiveness of the anger manipulation was attested to by the fact that angered subjects had reliably higher pulse rates, systolic blood pressure, and diastolic blood pressure. In the learning experiment, Type A subjects who had not been angered gave the confederate reliably higher levels of punishment than did Type B subjects, but there was not a difference in the levels of punishment given by Type A and Type B subjects who had been angered. There was not a difference between Type A and Type B subjects in the levels of reward they gave the confederate. The results provided behavioral evidence for aggression in persons with the Type A behavior pattern. The fact that the difference in aggression was limited to nonangered subjects was interpreted in terms of differences in attributions of responsibility.  相似文献

A 15-year-old male was treated over a 20-month period for multiple behavior problems, including social isolation, family conflict, classroom behavior problems, scholastic underachievement, and impulsivity. Initial assessment data suggested that the problems were the result of a complex, interacting set of environmental, cognitive, and psychophysiological factors. Treatment was delivered and validated using a time-series design to test hypotheses generated by etiological theory. Discussion addresses the need for better use of psychopathological principles and etiological theory in clinical practice. The success of the case study suggests that this can be done by combining behavioral and psychometric clinical assessment, idiographic application of theory, an hypotheticodeductive approach to intervention, and time-series methodology.This study was supported in part by the University of Nebraska — Lincoln College of Arts and Sciences, by the UN-L Research Council, and by a George C. Intermanual interactions originate at different levels of motor control. Interactions during specification of movement characteristics should affect reaction time for choice between left-hand and right-hand movements. In two experiments combinations of short and long target amplitudes for reversal movements of the left and right hand were cued with variable precueing intervals. Upon presentation of the response signal a unimanual left-hand or right-hand movement had to be produced. Reaction time was faster when same target amplitudes were precued than when different target amplitudes were. At short precueing intervals the longer reaction time with different target amplitudes (early effect) was accompanied by an amplitude assimilation: Short amplitudes were too long, and long amplitudes were too short. At longer precueing intervals the longer reaction time with different target amplitudes (late effect) was accompanied by a higher choice accuracy. These findings are taken to indicate a transient parametric coupling of amplitude specifications, which produces the early and the late effects by way of different mechanisms-namely different degrees of advance specification and generalized de-coupling, which affects the process of choice between hands.  相似文献

Otto Rank's approach to psychotherapy, developed after his separation from Freud, encourages living life fully in spite of death and limitation. In his emphasis on the here and now, new experience in the therapeutic relationship, and collaboration and creativity in the therapy process, Rank was ahead of his time. As a theorist of personality and of creativity, his work is well known, but his influence on the practices of humanistic, existential, and post-psychoanalytic relational therapists is largely unacknowledged. Rank's creative legacy is an approach to psychotherapy that calls forth artistry and collaboration between therapist and client.  相似文献

This paper uses concepts of emotion work and emotional labour to explore people’s experiences of the long-term disaster recovery process. It draws on data taken from two qualitative research projects which looked at adults’ and children’s recovery from the floods of June 2007 in Hull, UK. The paper argues that the emotional work of recovery cannot be separated from the physical and practical work of recovering the built environment. It shows that a focus on emotion work can lead to a more nuanced understanding of what recovery actually means and who is involved, leading to the identification of hidden vulnerabilities and a better understanding of the longer timescales involved in the process.  相似文献

One of the greatest strengths and liabilities of the career field is its diversity. This diversity allows for wide coverage of relevant career dynamics across the lifespan and across levels of analysis. However, this diversity also reflects fragmentation, with career scholars failing to appreciate how the insights from other thought worlds can advance their own work. Using advanced bibliometric mapping techniques, we provide a systematic review of the 3141 articles on careers published in the management literature between 1990 and 2012. In doing so, we (1) map key terms to create a systematic taxonomy of career studies within the field of management studies, (2) provide a synthetic overview of each topic cluster which extends prior reviews of more limited scope, and (3) identify the most highly influential studies on careers within each cluster. Specifically, six local clusters emerged — i.e., international careers, career management, career choice, career adaptation, individual and relational career success, and life opportunities. To classify a broad range of research opportunities for career scholars, we also create a “global” map of 16,146 career articles from across the social sciences. Specifically, six global clusters emerged — i.e., organizational, individual, education, doctorate careers, high-profile careers, and social policy. We describe and compare the clusters in the map with an emphasis on those avenues career scholars in management have yet to explore.  相似文献
