Phenomenological qualitative methods were used to identify and describe moral elements in therapeutic relationships. Using the relational philosophy of E. Levinas (1961/1969, 1979/1987) as a base, data in which therapists and clients identified and described morally responsive experiences in therapy sessions were analyzed. These moments were often unexpected and included categories of surprise, interruption, willingness to change, and clarifications/repairs. Additional moral phenomena related to therapists' attitudes included asymmetrical indebtedness, attitude of serving, and tentativeness of diagnosis. Identified moments of moral responsiveness were frequently associated with clients' progress in therapy. This suggests that conceptually smooth and uninterrupted therapy may be less helpful than therapy that is discontinuous and able to change in the moment.  相似文献

Recent research has focused on the Internet and relationships; however, little attention has been given to the specific role of social networking sites in relationship betrayal. Exploring the processes related to discovery of Facebook infidelity behaviors adds another layer to understanding Internet infidelity and highlights the behaviors unique to Facebook infidelity. Stories about cheating (N = 90), taken from the website FacebookCheating.com were analyzed using grounded theory methodology to create a process model of discovery. Researchers sought to answer four questions: (1) What is the experience of nonparticipating partners when their partners have engaged in infidelity behaviors on Facebook? (2) What are the basic social processes that occur when discovering the infidelity behaviors? And, (3) What are the basic psychological processes that occur? (4) What similarities or differences exist between the current research on offline and online infidelity and the process model from the current study? The categories are arranged in a process model, which depicts these processes as well as the emotional experience of the nonparticipating partner. The model highlights important phases through which the nonparticipating partner cycled following the discovery of the infidelity. These include appraising the boundary damage, acting on the appraisal, and making a decision about the relationship. Suggestions for clinical intervention based on this process are provided. Future research implications are also discussed.  相似文献

Marriage and family therapists grapple with the intersection of societal influence and African American clients’ presenting problems. Questions include: what impact has the historical trauma of slavery had on African Americans and what are the clinical implications of this trauma? This paper reviews the literature on the various residual effects of slavery (RES) within the African American community. In a recent theoretical model of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Barkley (1997a) predicted that ADHD children experience impairments in their psychological sense of time. This was demonstrated in a series of experiments by Barkley, Koplowicz, Anderson, and McMurray (1997). The present study sought to investigate the effects of ADHD subtype, stimulus duration, mode of presentation (visual versus auditory) and distractors on the performance of a simple time reproduction task. Data were obtained from 44 ADHD children (14 predominantly inattentive and 30 combined type) and 44 age-matched Controls using the Time Perception Application version 1.0 (Barkley, University of Massachusetts Medical Center, 1998). Results revealed that the ADHD children made significantly larger errors on Visual time reproduction tasks than the Controls, regardless of ADHD subtype or the presence of distractors. Furthermore, ADHD children were more likely to overestimate the shorter time intervals (0.5 and 2 s) and underestimate the longer time intervals (3, 4 and 6 s) relative to Controls. No group differences were observed on the auditory time reproduction task, with both ADHD and Control groups consistently underestimating the durations to be reproduced. The results of this study provide further support for the prediction that children with ADHD have an impaired sense of time.  相似文献

Forty subjects took part in a one-handed catching ask in which the period for which the mechanically projected tennis ball was illuminated in flight was varied systematically. Additionally, they were tested for (a) static visual acuity and (b) dynamic visual acuity, in which angular velocity was varied. As expected, both viewing period in the catching task and angular velocity in the acuity task were significant variables in performance. Correlation and principal-components analyses confirmed the findings of a previous experiment in that the correlated static visual acuity tasks were unrelated to both dynamic visual acuity (even when angular velocity was only 75 degrees /sec) and catching performance. Further, dynamic acuity and catching were related under the majority of the combinations, and most frequently at the highest angular velocity, a fact which suggested that the dynamic element in both tasks is the common factor.  相似文献

In six experiments, rats received an odor or a taste alone or in simultaneous compound with another taste prior to lithium chloride-induced illness. Aversions to the target odor and the target taste were then assessed. In Experiments 1–3, the presence of the taste in compound with the target during conditioning attenuated the strength of the aversions to both the target odor and the target taste. Although these results were consistent with the familiar principles of compound conditioning, they contradicted previous reports of potentiation, rather than attenuation, of odor conditioning by taste. In Experiment 4, taste again attenuated the conditioning of odor when a second odor was presented during the CS-US interval. In Experiment 5, we looked for odor potentiation with a within-subject design, and in Experiment 6, we examined an alternative method of presenting odor. In neither case did we find odor potentiation by taste. Over the range of conditions investigated here, a taste often attenuates, and never potentiates, the conditioning of aversions to both odors and tastes.  相似文献

Younger (19-27 years of age) and older (60-82 years of age) adults performed a letter search task in which a color singleton was either noninformative (baseline condition) or highly informative (guided condition) regarding target location. In the guided condition, both age groups exhibited a substantial decrease in response time (RT) to singleton targets, relative to the baseline condition, as well as an increase in RT to nonsingleton targets. The authors conclude that under conditions that equate the physical structure of individual displays, top-down attentional guidance can be at least as effective for older adults as for younger adults.  相似文献
