The following studies examined the dose and time dependence, site specificity, and reversibility of chlordiazepoxide (CDP)-induced working memory impairments in adult male Sprague-Dawley rats. The rats were tested in a delayed non-match-to-sample radial-arm maze task in which a 1-h delay was imposed between the first four (predelay) and all subsequent (postdelay) arm choices. Intraperitoneal (ip) injection of 2.5 or 5.0 but not 1.25 mg/kg CDP immediately following the predelay session impaired performance in the task. CDP increased the number of errors and decreased the number of correct choices during the postdelay session. The observed working memory impairments also appeared to be site specific since injection of CDP into the medial septum, but not into the anterior amygdala nuclei, immediately following the predelay session also impaired working memory in a dose-related manner. Furthermore, there was a time window for CDP-induced working memory impairments since intraseptal injection of the drug immediately but not 15 min following the predelay session disrupted memory. This observation suggests that the performance deficits reflect disrupted working memory and not proactive effects on performance or the induction of state-dependent learning. In the final experiment, rats were injected ip with either saline or an amnestic dose of CDP (5.0 mg/kg) following the predelay session and then were immediately infused with 10 nmol flumazenil (RO15-1788), a benzodiazepine receptor antagonist or vehicle, into either the medial septum or anterior nuclei of the amygdala. Intraseptal injection of flumazenil prevented the working memory impairments produced by ip injection of CDP. In contrast, intra-amygdala injection of flumazenil did not attenuate, enhance, or modify the CDP-induced working memory impairment. These observations suggest that CDP disrupts working memory by interacting with benzodiazepine receptors in the medial septum.  相似文献

This study was designed to explore two areas: (1) the concurrent validity of Holland's theory for employed men using four different operational definitions of vocational orientation, and (2) the relationships among all possible combinations of same named scales across the four inventories. Concurrent validity was studied by administering the Vocational Preference Inventory, the Self Directed Search, and the Holland Scales (Set I and Set II) to 153 male workers established in occupational environments consistent with Holland's six vocational environments. The results revealed that five scales of the VPI and of the Holland Scales (Set I and Set II) and four scales of the SDS successfully differentiated the occupational groups consistent with Holland's theoretical framework. The correlation coefficients for same named scales for all possible combinations of the four inventories were all found to be significant. In general, the findings of this study tend to support the concurrent validity of Holland's theory for employed men.  相似文献

This study explored the differences in vocational maturity, academic aptitude, and achievement variables among female sorority students who made congruent, incongruent, and undecided occupational choices. The variables were operationally defined by the Career Maturity Inventory, the American College Test Battery, and a self-report questionnaire. Congruent, incongruent, and undecided current occupational choice groups were defined operationally using the Self-Directed Search. The analysis of variance revealed the main effect of groups to be significant for two variables. The findings suggest that students in the congruent female group tend to be more vocationally mature than students in the incongruent and undecided groups.  相似文献

An experiment was designed to test the hypothesis that the latency of response to the offset of light can sometimes be shorter than the latency of response to the onset. The subjects' task involved the temporal order discrimination of the offset of one light and the onset of another. The results indicated that offsets were perceived about 40 ms earlier than onsets. Reasons were suggested for the shorter onset latencies found by other investigators, and a model was proposed to account for changes in the relative latencies of onsets and offsets as a function of stimulus duration and intensity.  相似文献

We proposed that civility norms would strengthen relationships between management commitment to safety and workers' safety motivation, safety behaviors, and injuries. Survey data were obtained from working adults in hazardous jobs—those for which physical labor is required and/or a realistic possibility of physical injury is present (N = 290). Results showed that management commitment positively related to workers' safety motivation, safety participation, and safety compliance, and negatively related to minor injuries. Furthermore, management commitment to safety displayed a stronger positive relationship with safety motivation and safety participation, and a stronger negative relationship with minor worker injuries when civility norms were high (versus low). The results confirm existing known relationships between management commitment to safety and worker safety motivation and behavior; furthermore, civility norms facilitate the relationships between management commitment to safety and various outcomes important to worker safety. In order to promote an optimally safe working environment, managers should demonstrate a commitment to worker safety and promote positive norms for interpersonal treatment between workers in their units.  相似文献

According to agent-based approaches to virtue ethics, the rightness of an action is a function of the motives which prompted that action. If those motives were morally praiseworthy, then the action was right; if they were morally blameworthy, the action was wrong. Many critics find this approach problematically insensitive to an act’s consequences, and claim that agent-basing fails to preserve the intuitive distinction between agent- and act-evaluation. In this article I show how an agent-based account of right action can be made sensitive to an act’s consequences. According to the approach which I defend, an action is right just in case it realizes an agent’s morally praiseworthy motive. Conversely, an action is wrong just in case it realizes a morally blameworthy motive. Specifying act-evaluation in terms of the realization, rather than the expression, of an agent’s motives allows an agent-based approach to distinguish between agent- and act-evaluation. This is because an agent may act from a morally praiseworthy motive, but fail (either through bad luck or poor judgment) to realize that motive. Her action will therefore not have been the right one, despite its being the expression of morally praiseworthy motives.  相似文献

Mental time travel is the ability to mentally relive events in one's own past (episodic recall) and pre‐live potential personal future events (episodic foresight). Recent research has used experience sampling to reveal when and how often we think about the past and future in everyday life; however, it remains unclear how much of thought is episodic, involving the sense of self that underpins mental time travel. In this study, we investigate the use of experience sampling to assess the frequency of episodic past and future thought in everyday life. Participants (n = 214) were exposed to 20 short message service prompts over 1 or 2 days. Half of thoughts were sited in the present; of the remainder, future‐oriented thoughts were more frequent than past‐oriented thoughts. Participants reported 20% of thoughts as episodic. This study suggests that experience sampling methodology can provide a means of assessing episodic thought during everyday activities.Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In multiple‐cue probabilistic inference, people choose between alternatives based on several cues, each of which is differentially associated with an alternative's overall value. Various strategies have been proposed for probabilistic inference (e.g., weighted additive, tally, and take‐the‐best). These strategies differ in how many cue values they require to enact and in how they weight each cue. Do decision makers actually use any of these strategies? Ways to investigate this question include analyzing people's choices and the cues that they reveal. However, different strategies often predict the same decisions, and search behavior says nothing about whether or how people use the information that they acquire. In this research, we attempt to elucidate which strategies participants use in a multiple‐cue probabilistic inference task by examining verbal protocols, a high‐density source of process data. The promise of verbal data is in their utility for testing detailed information processing models. To that end, we apply protocol analysis in conjunction with computational simulations. We find converging evidence across outcome measures, search measures, and verbal reports that most participants use simplifying heuristics, namely take‐the‐best.
