We report associations between serial measures of blood lead and intelligence in children age 10-12 years, half heavily exposed to lead from the prenatal period onward, and half relatively unexposed. For a subsample, we examine bone lead-IQ associations, comparing them with bone lead associations. Both blood and bone lead levels were associated with intelligence decrements, small relative to the contribution of social factors. For each doubling of Tib-Pb, Full Scale, Performance, and Verbal IQ decreased by an estimated 5.5, 6.2, and 4.1 points, respectively. Bone lead-IQ associations were stronger than those for blood lead, which nonetheless provide robust analogues. Current BPb, easy to obtain, provides a useful means for assessing Pb exposure/IQ associations. 相似文献

Classical conditioning has been explained by two main types of theories that postulate different learning mechanisms. Rescorla
and Wagner (1972) put forth a theory in which conditioning is based on the ability of the US to drive learning through error
correction. Alternatively, Mackintosh (1973) put forth a theory in which the ability of the CS to be associated with the unconditioned
stimulus is modulated. We have proposed a reconciliation of these two mechanisms as working in parallel within different neural
systems: a cerebellar system for US modulation and a hippocampal system for CS modulation. We developed a computational model
of cerebellar function in eyeblink conditioning based on the error correction mechanism of the Rescorla-Wagner rule in which
learningrelated activity from the cerebellum inhibits the inferior olive, which is the US input pathway to the cerebellum
(Gluck et al., 1994). We developed a computational model of the hippocampal region that forms altered representations of conditioned
stimuli based on their behavioral outcomes (Gluck & Myers, 1993; Myers et al., 1995). Overall, computational modeling and
empirical findings support the idea that, at least in the case of eyeblink conditioning, there may be two different neural
systems: the cerebellum which mediates US-based error correction and hippocampus which alters representations of CSs. 相似文献

Michael Bergmann seeks to motivate his externalist, proper function theory of epistemic justification by providing three objections
to the mentalism and mentalist evidentialism characteristic of nonexternalists such as Richard Feldman and Earl Conee. Bergmann
argues that (i) mentalism is committed to the false thesis that justification depends on mental states; (ii) mentalism is
committed to the false thesis that the epistemic fittingness of an epistemic input to a belief-forming process must be due
to an essential feature of that input, and, relatedly, that mentalist evidentialism is committed to the false thesis that
the epistemic fittingness of doxastic response B to evidence E is an essential property of B–E; and (iii) mentalist evidentialism
is “unmotivated”. I object to each argument. The argument for (i) begs the question. The argument for (ii) suffers from the
fact that mentalist evidentialists are not committed to the consequences claimed for them; nevertheless, I show that there
is, in the neighborhood, a substantive dispute concerning the nature of doxastic epistemic fittingness. That dispute involves
what I call “Necessary Fittingness”, the view that, necessarily, exactly one (at most) doxastic attitude (belief, or disbelief, or suspension of judgment) toward a proposition is epistemically fitting with respect to a person’s total evidence at any time. Reflection on my super-blooper
epistemic design counterexamples to Bergmann’s proper function theory reveals both the plausibility of Necessary Fittingness

Varying risk factors for both incarceration and mental health diagnoses have been identified for female juveniles, highlighting the need for gender-specific assessments and treatment protocols. The purpose of this study is to determine how the prevalence rates of mental health symptoms differ in male and female juvenile offenders. It was hypothesized that the prevalence rates would be greater for females than males. This study found significant differences between males and females on several clinical scales. These findings are consistent with past studies that have identified differences in mental health symptoms between genders. 相似文献

Members of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) teams from 34 elementary schools participated in a Team-Initiated Problem Solving (TIPS) Workshop and follow-up technical assistance. Within the context of a randomized wait-list controlled trial, team members who were the first recipients of the TIPS intervention demonstrated greater implementation integrity in using the problem-solving processes during their team meetings than did members of PBIS Teams in the Wait-List Control group. The success of TIPS at improving implementation integrity of the problem-solving processes is encouraging and suggests the value of conducting additional research focused on determining whether there is a functional relation between use of these problem-solving processes and actual resolution of targeted student academic and social problems. 相似文献

The current study longitudinally examined bidirectional associations between callous-unemotional (CU) traits and parenting dimensions. This study extended the literature by examining whether parental depression moderated these relations in a pre-adolescent sample. Proposed relations were examined using a longitudinal sample of 120 aggressive children (59.6 % male) who were in the 4th grade (M?=?10.56 years, SD?=?0.56) at baseline and were followed annually over 4 years. A series of generalized estimating equation (GEE) models were used to examine proposed relations. At the first order level, corporal punishment (p?. 001) and poor supervision/monitoring predicted increases in CU traits (p?=?0.03) however, the inverse relations were not found. Importantly, parental depression moderated the link between corporal punishment and CU traits. Specifically, at high levels of depression, corporal punishment was predictive of increases in CU traits, but was unrelated to CU traits at low levels of depression. These findings aid in our understanding of the link between corporal punishment and CU traits by highlighting conditions under which certain parenting behaviors have an impact on CU traits, which in turn, may have important intervention implications. Disrupting feedback processing interferes with rule-based but not information-integration category learning 总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
The effect of a sequentially presented memory scanning task on rule-based and information-integration category learning was investigated. On each trial in the short feedback-processing time condition, memory scanning immediately followed categorization. On each trial in the long feedback-processing time condition, categorization was followed by a 2.5-sec delay and then memory scanning. In the control condition, no memory scanning was required. Rule-based category learning was significantly worse in the short feedback-processing time condition than in the long feedback-processing time condition or control condition, whereas information-integration category learning was equivalent across conditions. In the rule-based condition, a smaller proportion of observers learned the task in the short feedback-processing time condition, and those who learned took longer to reach the performance criterion than did those in the long feedback-processing time or control condition. No differences were observed in the information integration task. These results provide support for a multiple-systems approach to category learning and argue against the validity of single-system approaches. 相似文献

Starting from the premise that the purpose of cognitive modeling is to gain information about the cognitive processes of individuals,
we develop a general theoretical framework for assessment of models on the basis of tests of the models’ ability to yield
information about the true performance patterns of individual subjects and the processes underlying them. To address the central
problem that observed performance is a composite of true performance and error, we present formal derivations concerning inference
from noisy data to true performance. Analyses of model fits to simulated data illustrate the usefulness of our approach for
