8 subjects performed an unprepared simple reaction time task for 20 min. every 2 hr. while taking part in an all night disco dancing marathon (continuous exercise) and during a control (no exercise) night. Mean reaction times were significantly faster and less variable during the dance marathon. It was suggested that the effects of continuous exercise in the form of disco dancing may be to reduce drowsiness which in turn assists performance. 相似文献

Quasi-experimental evaluation methods promised to provide a way of testing and improving solutions to social problems. These
methods have been found wanting. Alternative approaches, including “pragmatic evaluation,” “naturalistic evaluation,” and
“pluralist evaluation” are also shown to be unsatisfactory. The initial promise of the evaluation movement has been disappointed.
Realistic evaluation is advocated as an alternative to existing forms of evaluation. It is rooted in some European traditions
in epistemology, ontology, and social theory. It offers a framework within which rigorous outcome evaluations can be undertaken
with results that can inform policy and practice.

Results are reported of a 2-year longitudinal study looking at the effects of full-time degree study on full-time mature students who were also in long-term committed relationships. The findings from the first year of the research suggested that while there were particular stresses for students with domestic responsibilities; the single most buffering effect was support from the student's partner. The follow-up study in the second year confirmed these findings, but also suggested that there was a decrease in the amount of partner support experienced in the second year. The implications for counselling and student support services are discussed. 相似文献

The fast growing interest in the work of university ethics review boards is evident in the proliferation of research and literature
in the area. This article focuses on a Research Ethics Board (REB) in the Canadian context. In-depth, open-ended interviews
with REB members and findings from a qualitative study designed to examine the ethics review of school-based research are
used to illustrate points raised in the paper. The author’s experiences as academic researcher, advisor to student researchers
and a 3-year term as an REB member inform the discussion. Macro issues related to the general workings of the board (e.g.,
maintaining appropriate membership) and micro issues connected to individual REB members’ experiences of reviewing research
applications are examined. The author’s goal is to contribute to a fastgrowing conversation related to the issues that influence
university ethics review while drawing attention to the contribution that faculty members’ understandings of their work as
REB members can make to that conversation. 相似文献
