In the classical test theory, a high-reliability test always leads to a precise measurement. However, when it comes to the prediction of test scores, it is not necessarily so. Based on a Bayesian statistical approach, we predicted the distributions of test scores for a new subject, a new test, and a new subject taking a new test. Under some reasonable conditions, the predicted means, variances, and covariances of predicted scores were obtained and investigated. We found that high test reliability did not necessarily lead to small variances or covariances. For a new subject, higher test reliability led to larger predicted variances and covariances, because high test reliability enabled a more accurate prediction of test score variances. Regarding a new subject taking a new test, in this study, higher test reliability led to a large variance when the sample size was smaller than half the number of tests. The classical test theory is reanalyzed from the viewpoint of predictions and some suggestions are made.  相似文献

Which types of benefit finding in negative events central to identity lead to higher identity achievement? This study examined the relationships between the identity centrality of negative events, benefit finding, and identity achievement, with consideration of differences between benefit-finding domains. Participants included 245 undergraduates, who recalled a previous negative event and completed the Identity Scale, Centrality of Event Scale, and items regarding benefit finding. Path analysis showed that benefit finding regarding personal growth consistently correlated with identity achievement, while the effects of recognizing warmth in others were unstable depending on event category. The findings demonstrated the role of benefit finding regarding personal growth in promoting identity achievement and buffering the original adverse impact of negative events on identity.  相似文献

Empirical findings suggest that Chinese and Americans differ in the ways that they describe emotional experience, with Chinese using more somatic and social words than Americans. No one, however, has investigated whether this variation is related to differences between Chinese and American conceptions of emotion or to linguistic differences between the English and Chinese languages. Therefore, in two studies, the authors compared the word use of individuals who varied in their orientation to Chinese and American cultures (European Americans [EA], more acculturated Chinese Americans [CA], and less acculturated CA) when they were speaking English during emotional events. Across both studies, less acculturated CA used more somatic (e.g., dizzy) and more social (e.g., friend) words than EA. These findings suggest that even when controlling for language spoken, cultural conceptions of emotion may shape how people talk about emotion.  相似文献

The same-sign hypothesis suggests that only those edges in the two retinal images whose luminance gradients have the same sign, known as same-sign edges, can be stereoscopically fused to generate a perception of depth. If true, one would expect that the magnitude of the depth induced by an opposite-luminance stereogram (eg one where the figure in one stereo half-image is black and the figure in the other is white) should be determined by the disparity of the same-sign edges. Despite the considerable work on the same-sign hypothesis this prediction has yet to be verified. Here we confirm this prediction for a particular opposite-luminance stereogram and discuss possible reasons why it is not true for opposite-luminance stereograms that are presented briefly or where each stereo half-image contains many elements.  相似文献

To understand infants' learning of the contingency between their actions and events, we studied inter-limb movement patterns of 48 infants aged 2-4 months when they attempted moving a mobile using a string attached to their arm. The session was composed of baseline, acquisition, immediate retention test, re-acquisition, interference, and delayed retention test periods. The analysis revealed motor pattern dependence on age--infants exhibited increased movement over base line of all limbs (2-month-olds), both arms (3-month-olds), and the connected arm (4-month-olds). The acquired patterns were produced during immediate and delayed test periods across age groups. The results suggest that 2-month-olds can acquire and retain general body movements that induce contingent changes in a mobile, while 3- and 4-month-olds form memories that serve as a constraint enabling highly specific movement of their arm to effectively activate the mobile.  相似文献

The purpose of this study is to examine the temporal representation of plans in memory. Two experiments using a priming paradigm were conducted to investigate which plans would be activated in memory when participants processed a particular plan. The 64 undergraduates who participated in Experiment 1 were asked to memorise a 1-month schedule of plans. Results showed that when participants were presented with a particular plan as a prime, the preceding plan in the schedule was immediately activated. After the activation of the preceding plan, the plan following the prime plan in the schedule was activated. Experiment 2 was conducted to examine whether the sequential effect found in Experiment 1 might be based on day order (e.g., plans for day 1, plans for day 2, etc.) or simple ordering of plans (e.g., plan 1, plan 2, etc.). However, in the results of Experiment 2, with 48 undergraduate participants, the dynamic transition in the activation of plans along the time course, seen in Experiment 1, was not observed.  相似文献

After training conditional discriminations among selected stimuli from two perceptual classes, the emergence of novel relations involving other members of both classes was assessed using cross-class probes. The cross-class probes were presented using one of four different testing schedules. In the 2/9 test, nine different probes were presented in each of two test blocks. In the 6/3 test, three different probes were presented in each of six test blocks. In the 18/1-RND test, each of the 18 cross-class probes was presented in separate test blocks. In the 2/9 and 6/3 tests, the cross-class probes were presented in a randomized order within test block. In the 18/1-RND test, the cross-class probes were presented in a randomized sequence. In the 18/1-PRGM test, however, the cross-class probes were presented in a programmed order (i.e., the values of the stimuli in each cross-class probe were changed systematically in the succession of probe presentations). About 55% of the linked perceptual classes emerged during the 2/9, 6/3, and 18/1-RND tests. Thus the number of different probes in a test block did not influence the emergence of classes as long as the probes were presented in a random order. Virtually all classes emerged during the 18/1-PRGM test. Thus at least one ordered introduction of different cross probes resulted in the reliable emergence of linked perceptual classes. Mechanisms responsible for linked perceptual class formation are discussed along with the relation of these classes to other complex categories.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to evaluate the spatiotemporal variation of alpha and sigma band EEGs during the waking-sleeping transition or hypnagogic period. Power and coherence from 7 EEG channels (Fp1, F7, Fz, C3, Pz, T5, O1) were studied using EEG records of the period of 5 min. before the onset of Stage 1 to 24 min. after the onset of Stage 1. The EEG spectra were computed for 4 frequency bands (alpha 1: 8.0-9.0 Hz, alpha 2: 9.5-11.0 Hz, alpha 3: 11.5-12.5 Hz, and sigma: 13.0-15.0 Hz). The power of alpha 1 and 2 bands initially started to decrease before the onset of Stage 1. Principal component analysis of the coherence yielded Generalized and Localized Components in each band. The Generalized Component was widespread across scalp areas, while the Localized Component was a restricted local area. The Generalized Components of alpha 1 and 2 bands reached stable levels of NREM sleep about 1 min. after the onset of Stage 1. The component of sigma band reached a stable level of NREM sleep about 0.6 min. before the onset of Stage 2, while the component of alpha 3 band reached a stable level of NREM sleep about 3.4 min. after the onset of Stage 2. These results suggest that the alpha-sigma band EEG structures during the waking-sleeping transition period may not be uniform across EEG bands and that the hypnagogic EEG changes may start before the onset of Stage 1 and continue for several minutes after the onset of Stage 2.  相似文献

When a visual stimulus is flashed at a given location the moment a second moving stimulus arrives at the same location, observers report the flashed stimulus as spatially lagging behind the moving stimulus (the flash-lag effect). The authors investigated whether the global configuration (perceptual organization) of the moving stimulus influences the magnitude of the flash-lag effect. The results indicate that a flash presented near the leading portion of a moving stimulus lags significantly more than a flash presented near the trailing portion. This result also holds for objects consisting of several elements that group to form a unitary percept of an object in motion. The present study demonstrates a novel interaction between the global configuration of moving objects and the representation of their spatial position and may provide a new and useful tool for the study of perceptual organization.  相似文献
