Childhood amnesia is defined operationally as the forgetting of early life events to a significantly greater degree than is accounted for by "normal" forgetting, which is an increasing recall decrement as time since occurrence increases. Three cognitive processes and their developmental changes are discussed which, when considered with psychodynamic factors, may broaden the understanding of childhood amnesia. Twelve pregnant women and their spouses who had undergone ultrasonography and knew their child's gender were compared with 12 pregnant women and their spouses who had undergone ultrasonography but did not know their child's gender. Parents were interviewed (a) prior to receiving the ultrasound, (b) immediately after the ultrasound, and (c) following their infant's birth. Using the adjectives rating scales, and replicating the procedures developed by Rubin, Provenzano, and Luria (1974), parents' perceptions of their infants were measured. ANOVA results indicated that parents viewed their infants to be softer, finer, littler, cuddlier, easier, calmer, more inactive, more beautiful, more awkward, quieter, weaker, and somewhat more delicate following birth than during the preceding measurement period(s). Mothers viewed their infants to be softer, more nervous, more fussy, more excitable, and more noisy than did fathers. Supporting Rubin et al.'s (1974) findings, several differences emerged between parents' perceptions of boys and girls, particularly by the time the infants were born. Following birth, parents perceived girls to be finer, smaller, less coordinated, quieter, weaker, and more delicate than boys. This study was designed to ascertain the perceptions of school counselors and school administrators of the school counselor's activities and the attributes necessary for him to be effective in his role. The findings were interpreted to suggest that differences that exist between the perceptions of counselors and administrators tend to be in the degree to which they view certain activities or attributes as important. Ranking of activities and the attributes by both groups tended to be similar but differences were found to exist between the mean scores of counselors and administrators in various areas. Sources of discrepancy were discussed as possibly relating to the need for counselors to establish clearer priorities for their activities and the administrators' perception of the counselor as fundamentally a quasi-administrator of guidance services. 相似文献

Gender differences in the background variablesof 95 male and 94 female (85 Asian-American and 104primarily Caucasian non-Asian American) medical studentsenrolled in Phase I of a BS/MD six-year medical program were investigated. Fear of successimagery, resultant achievement motivation and severaldemographic and achievement-related home, school,personal motivational variables were analyzed. Therewere no significant gender differences in most ofthe variables. However, during high school, women spentless time in watching TV (p < .000), more time instudying (p < .000), and perceived that their chores were minimized before examinations (p< .002), while during their medical study, their useof conversation with someone to cope with theirpressures and their perception of unique parentalsupport were higher than those of men (p < .05 andp < .01, respectively). Few researchers have investigated the relation of children's sleep problems to their parents' sleep problems. Children with autism have been reported to evidence greater sleep problems than do typically developing children (C. D. Hoffman, D. P. Sweeney, J. E. Gilliam, & M. C. Lopez-Wagner, 2006; P. G. William, L. L. Sears, & A. Allard, 2004). In the present study, parents (N = 106) of children independently diagnosed with autism (4-16 years of age; M= 8.20 years, SD = 2.69 years) reported greater sleep problems for themselves than did parents (N = 168) of typically developing children (4-15 years of age; M = 8.62 years, SD = 3.28 years). Children's sleep problems were related to parents' sleep problems for both groups; in the autism group, children's level of symptomatology was not related to their parents' sleep. The authors suggest areas for further research on the sleep problems of children and their parents, the potential interaction of these problems with children's symptomatic behavior, and the relations of these factors to child, parent, and family functioning. 相似文献

The aim of this qualitative study was to retrospectively examine nondisclosure in individual supervision while in training. Interviews were conducted with supervisees two years post-qualification. Specific nondisclosures were examined and reasons for these nondisclosures were explored. Six in-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted and data analysis drew on Consensual Qualitative Research. The findings revealed four categories relating to: (i) the nature of the difficulty; (ii) reasons for nondisclosure; (iii) the supervisory relationship; and (iv) facilitative factors. The quality of the supervisory relationship was a significant element in nondisclosure. A key recommendation was that role induction for supervisees should be incorporated into training programmes to assist supervisees in learning how to use supervision more effectively. Limitations of the study and further research are provided in light of current findings. 相似文献

An exploratory analysis of the Suicide Intent Scale was performed on a sample of 98 psychiatric inpatients who had made suicide attempts. The factor analysis was performed using a method for polychotomous data, and resulted in a two-factor solution. The Lethal Intent factor contained items pertaining to the subjective level of lethal intent, while the Planning factor contained items largely related to objective planning for the attempt. Preliminary analysis of these factors suggest that the Suicide Intent Scale can be used to evaluate two separate aspects of suicidal behavior. 相似文献
