Guzy and Axelrod investigated auditory attention switching by means of the click-counting paradigm and concluded that attention switching is a fatigable process. In the present comment it is shown that this conclusion is based on a faulty analysis of the data: The scores subjected to the analysis of variance were transformed such that they were no longer linear combinations of the factorial effects. Reanalyzing the data in the correct way renders perfectly linear conting functions that deviate from theoretical fatigue functions. It is concluded that the attention-switching mechanism is not fatigable.  相似文献

Some simple models of iconic storage, based on the persisting responses of photoreceptors, were tested in two experiments. Substantial changes in such physical parameters as adapting luminance, stimulus luminance, and stimulus contrast produced little or no change in the duration of partial-report performance. This is at odds with most receptoral models. It seems unlikely that any model based on receptoral persistence can accommodate the results, thus forcing one to locate the icon beyond the receptors and probably beyond the retina as a whole.  相似文献

In a laboratory experiment with 113 male university students, probability of succeeding at an arithmetic task was set at either .25, .50, or .75. This objective probability of success was linealy and positively related to subjective probability of success and to level of performance. No significant main effects of the trait of generalized expectancy of task success were found either on subjective probability of success or on performance. However, the more specific trait of expectancy of success at numerical tasks, with measured ability held constant, did show significant positive effects on subjective probability of success and performance. These results suggest that persons with high self-appraisals in a particular skill area form higher subjective probabilities of success and perform at higher levels on tasks calling for those skills than do persons with low self-appraisals, even though they do not differ in measured ability.Research reported here is based on a portion of a dissertation prepared at at the University of Minnesota in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the doctoral degree. Summary A study of processes rather than of abilities characterizes much of Luria's work on cognitive functions. The three major functional organizations in terms of cognitive functions are: arousal, coding, and planning. Each of these has been described with a special emphasis on planning. Tasks appropriate for demonstrating the processes of planning are discussed and the emergence of a planning factor through factor analytic work has been described. Considerations relating to the independence of planning and coding processes in the context of normal and abnormal development are presented next. Finally, planful behavior as an integral part of purposive behavior in humans is considered in the context of consciousness.  相似文献

The model graphically depicts the synergistic relations of career choice factors, life-style, self-concept, and the specific job. The authors discuss the relationship between the quadrihedral model and current career development theories.
