The authors examined relationships between method of coping with combat-related stress and psychological symptoms among Gulf War Army personnel (N = 1,058). Participants were surveyed on return from the Gulf region (Time 1) with the Coping Responses Inventory (R. Moos, 1990) and a measure of combat exposure. Outcomes were symptom measures of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression. At Time 2 (18-24 months) participants completed the same symptom measures and an index of postwar stress. Higher proportions of approach-based coping in the war zone were related to lower levels of psychological symptoms. Combat exposure moderated the effects of coping on Time 1 PTSD. Coping predicted changes in symptoms of depression but not PTSD. Combat exposure affected changes in depression through postwar stress but had a direct negative effect on PTSD. 相似文献

In this study, we investigated the treatment utility of the revision of Perry and Viglione's (1991) Rorschach Ego Impairment Index (EII-2) in a sample of 53 child psychiatric inpatients. Parent ratings of symptomatic functioning on the Devereux Scales of Mental Disorders (DSMD; Naglieri, LeBuffe, & Pfeiffer, 1994) were obtained at admission, 30 days postdischarge, and 120 days postdischarge. EII-2 scores correlated with initial symptom elevations on the Critical Pathology at admission. EII-2 scores did not predict short-term response to treatment. However, EII-2 scores demonstrated moderate correlations with long-term outcome and relapse. EII-2 was related to prediction of worsening of symptoms between 30-day and 120-day follow-up as measured by Reliable Change Index scores that were computed for the Externalizing, Internalizing, Critical Pathology, and Total DSMD scales. 相似文献

Recent experimental research suggests 2 things. The first is that along with learning how to do something, people also learn how variably or differently to continue doing it. The second is that high variability is maintained by constraining, precluding a currently successful, often repetitive solution to a problem. In this view, Claude Monet's habitually high level of variability in painting was acquired during his childhood and early apprenticeship and was maintained throughout his adult career by a continuous series of task constraints imposed by the artist on his own work. In this study we investigated the reliability and validity of the Rorschach Schizophrenia Index (SCZI) from Exner's (1978, 1993) Comprehensive System for a sample of 413 child psychiatric inpatients by examining relationships with the Personality Inventory for Children-Revised (PIC-R) and chart diagnoses. Interscorer reliability and internal consistency were acceptable. Multivariate analyses of variance results revealed significantly different PIC-R profiles for those with and without elevated SCZI scores, with significant differences emerging on the PIC-R Psychosis (PSY) scale and 2 cognitive triad scales (Intellectual Screening and Development), which have been reported to be more frequently elevated in PIC-R profiles of children with psychotic disorders. Significant differences were found across SCZI groups for the PSY scale, Reality Distortion scale, reality testing critical items and chart diagnoses of psychotic disorder. Implications for clinical interpretation of the SCZI with children and issues for further research with this population are discussed. 相似文献

The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline was launched in January 2005. Lifeline, supported by a federal grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, consists of a network of more than 120 crisis centers located in communities across the country that are committed to suicide prevention. Lifeline's Certification and Training Subcommittee conducted an extensive review of research and field practices that yielded the Lifeline's Suicide Risk Assessment Standards. The authors of the current paper provide the background on the need for these standards; describe the process that produced them; summarize the research and rationale supporting the standards; review how these standard assessment principles and their subcomponents can be weighted in relation to one another so as to effectively guide crisis hotline workers in their everyday assessments of callers to Lifeline; and discuss the implementation process that will be provided by Lifeline. 相似文献

Previous results indicating that radial maze performance in animals with mediodorsal thalamic lesions is deficient cannot exclude the possibility that these impairments are due to altered motor mechanisms (response biases). The present study sought to eliminate this potentially confounding variable by using a procedure which tests memory for serial position. This procedure involved experimenter-controlled arm entry (number and order) on a radial arm maze. Following this sequence, animals were presented with one previously entered arm along with an arm not yet visited on that trial. Avoidance of the previously entered arm constituted memory for the prior sequence. Thus, this task represents a form of a win-shift or nonmatching-to-sample task. Seven animals were given ibotenic acid lesions of the mediodorsal nucleus and nine others were given sham operations; 2 weeks later testing in the above procedure was conducted. Results indicated that, although control subjects could differentiate between entered and unentered arms without difficulty, animals with lesions were unable to exhibit this distinction. Much of their memory for arms previously entered in a sequence was at chance level, regardless of the placement of the tested arm in the sequence. Some tendency toward increased errors with longer sequences of arm entries was noted. This may indicate that animals with lesions were susceptible to proactive interference from previous choices. Regardless, even without the opportunity to develop or exhibit response biases, animals lesioned in the mediodorsal nucleus were unable to perform this win-shift task reliably. Thus, discrimination among maze arms is impaired after lesion of the mediodorsal nucleus and this impairment is independent of the motor response patterns which emerge during solution of a conventional radial maze task. 相似文献

When two masked, to-be-attended targets are presented within approximately half a second of each other, performance on the
second target (T2) suffers, relative to when the targets are presented further apart in time or when the first target (T1)
can be ignored. This phenomenon is known as the attentional blink (AB). Colzato et al. (Psychon Bull Rev 14:1051–1057, 2007) used an individual differences approach to examine whether individual AB magnitude was predicted by individual differences
in working memory (WM), using the operation span paradigm (OSPAN). They found that OSPAN score was inversely related to AB
magnitude even when a fluid intelligence measure (Raven’s SPM) was partialled out. However, it is not clear from this study
whether it was the executive control aspect of working memory, the capacity aspect of short-term memory, (or both), that related
to AB magnitude. In the present study we used a variety of WM measures that required varying degrees of executive control.
OSPAN was negatively related to AB magnitude with Raven’s SPM, reading comprehension, reading rate, and digit forward and
backward partialled out. Backward and forward digit span did not predict AB magnitude. These results support the conclusion
that a “working” executive component of WM predicts temporal limitations of selective attention beyond static STM capacity
