Gibson’s (1979/1986) definition of ecological events suggests that they are different types of change. Weather events exemplify all three varieties that Gibson outlined and can: (1) change the layout of surfaces, (2) change the color or texture of surfaces, and (3) change surface existence. Wind can bring temporary and enduring changes at the ground surface. Clouds can affect visual experiences on the ground through the amount and type of sunlight that is available. Precipitation in the form of rain, ice, and snow can create, disrupt, deform, or destroy surfaces at or on the ground. In this way, weather can change both the optical characteristics of surfaces (e. g., texture, reflectivity, transparency) as well as the affordances of the surfaces (e.g., wetting of surfaces reduces contact friction; high winds change the ease of passing through the medium of air, etc.). We present a taxonomy of weather events based on Gibson’s (1979/1986) classification of terrestrial events and provide some suggestions for future research. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine whether learned helplessness, cognitive distortions, self-efficacy, and dispositional optimism assessed at Time 1 (T1; questionnaires mailed at 1 month postdischarge) would predict depressive symptoms at Time 2 (T2; questionnaires mailed at 1-year follow-up) in a sample of 86 patients hospitalized with ischemic heart disease. Multiple regression results indicated that optimism and cognitive distortions at T1 were significantly associated with T1 depressive symptoms after controlling for confounding variables. When the T1 psychological factors were analyzed with T2 depressive symptoms, only optimism continued to predict depressive symptoms after controlling for confounds and T1 depressive symptoms. The global expectancies that optimism assessed appeared to be more stable over time than the statelike beliefs of cognitive distortions and may have accounted for why optimism predicted T2 depressive symptoms. 相似文献

Visual search for 1 target orientation is fast and virtually independent of set size if all of the distractors are of a single, different orientation. However, in the presence of distractors of several orientations, search can become inefficient and strongly dependent on set size (Exp. 1). Search can be inefficient even if only 2 distractor orientations are used and even if those orientations are quite remote from the target orientation (e.g. 20 degrees or even 40 degrees away, Exp. 2). Search for 1 orientation among heterogeneous distractor orientations becomes more efficient if the target orientation is the only item possessing a categorical attribute such as steep, shallow (Exp. 3), tilted left or tilted right (Exp. 4), or simply tilted (Exps. 5 and 6). Orientation categories appear to be 1 of several strategies used in visual search for orientation. The neural organization that determines the specific beat-to-beat pattern of cardiac behavior is expected to be demonstrated in the independent regulation of the RR intervals (chronotropy) and the corresponding QT subintervals (inotropy), as the former defines the rate of contraction and the latter has a linear negative correlation with the peak pressure inside the contracting ventricular muscles. The neurons of the isolated cardiac nervous system, many of which are located in the fat-pads of the heart, exhibit the same types of mechanical and chemical receptors and the same types of cholinergic and noradrenergic effectors as those found in the neural superstructure. In the surgically isolated and perfused rabbit heart we studied the responses of the QT and RR intervals evoked by block of coronary blood flow. We found that if we separated each RR cycle into QT and RR-QT components, then the dynamics of variation for each subinterval series often had the same fractional number of degrees of freedom (i.e., chaotic dimensions), a finding which suggests they are both regulated by the same underlying system. The ischemia/anoxia evoked transient dimensional increases and separations between the two subinterval series that, after the temporary divergence, reconverged to having the same lower value. The dimensional fluctuations occurred repeatedly and preceded or coincided with alterations in the magnitude and sign of the slope of QT vs RR-QT. We interpret the dimensional fluctuations of the two subinterval series as correlates of adaptation-dependent self-organization and reorganization in the underlying intrinsic cardiac nervous system during accumulating ischemia/anoxia. Such attempts at functional reorganization in this simple neurocardiac system may explain the transient dimensional changes in the RR intervals that precedes by 24 hrs the occurrences of fatal ventricular fibrillation in high-risk cardiac patients. 相似文献
