There has been a recent trend in research seeking the most appropriate statistical technique for determining job similarities/differences. Monte Carlo methods were used to analyze more closely the repeated measures analysis of variance and the multivariate analysis of variance in order to add further insight into the viability of these techniques for this purpose. The conventional univariate analysis of variance, the ε-adjusted univariate F test, and the ε-adjusted univariate F test were compared to three multivariate tests (Roy's largest-root criterion, Wilk's likelihood ratio, and the Pillai-Barlett trace) in terms of power and control for Type I error when (1) circularity and homogeneity were met, (2) homogeneity was met but circularity was violated, (3) homogeneity was violated but circularity was met, and (4) both homogeneity and circularity were violated. The efficacy of the techniques was shown to be contingent upon whether the assumptions were met or not. The univariate test proved to be the better technique when circularity was met. The multivariate technique proved to be the better test when homogeneity was met while circularity was violated. The results were mixed when both circularity and homogeneity were violated. Guidelines for selecting a statistical technique which tests for job differences are offered. 相似文献

Three expert MMPI judges classified 100 psychiatric inpatients as psychotic or non-psychotic on the basis of their MMPIs. Validity scale data, as well as clinical scale scores, were included for 50 of the profiles, while the validity scale scores were withheld from the judges for the remaining 50 profiles. Within each of the above two groups, half had a "positive" validity scale sign (a defensive validity scale configuration defined as L or K greater than or equal to 70, or both greater than or equal to 60) and half had a negative validity scale sign, indicating a lack of defensiveness. Using actual diagnosis as the external criterion, results indicated that the majority of defensive psychotic patients produced clinical scale configurations which appeared nonpsychotic to the judges. Conversely, the majority of nondefensive nonpsychotics produced psychotic-appearing clinical scale configurations. These two types of test misses suggest that K corrections on MMPI scales relating to psychosis are not optimal for psychiatric inpatients. This study extends research on the relationship between religious orientation, sexual prejudice, and antipathy toward value‐violating behaviors. If intrinsic religion leads individuals to “love the sinner but hate the sin,” homosexual sexually promiscuous targets should be treated similarly to heterosexual promiscuous targets. One hundred female introductory psychology students were provided the opportunity to help two students. They had no information about the first student. The second student disclosed through a note that she was gay or said nothing about sexual orientation, and further stated that she was sexually promiscuous or celibate. Participants scoring high in intrinsic religiousness helped the disclosing student less when she revealed she was sexually promiscuous, but did not help a gay discloser less than a straight discloser. High intrinsic scores seemed to be related to antipathy toward the value‐violation, but not toward the gay person as an individual. 相似文献

Married veterinarians (N = 242) provided information regarding work satisfaction, work‐related stress, marital‐family stress, and spousal support for career. Female veterinarians reported significantly greater effect of marital/family stress on career and less perceived spousal support for career than did their male counterparts. Areas of greatest work dissatisfaction for both genders were income and time required at work. No differences emerged between men and women on various measures of work satisfaction. In addition, no difference was found between the genders in the effect of work‐related stress on career. 相似文献

Normative data are reported for a 68-item teacher's form of the Missouri Children's Behavior Checklist (MCBC-T). Sex differences comparable to those found in parents' ratings were found but teachers' average ratings were significantly lower than parents' ratings. The correlations between teachers' and parents' ratings are comparable to those found in the literature and provide evidence for convergent and discriminant validity of the MCBC scales. 相似文献

During one of the several unsuccessful admission interviews I had before finally being admitted to a graduate program, an interviewer asked me what kind of research I would like to do as a psychologist. "I plan to validate the Rorschach" was my reply. "And what will you do if you find the Rorschach isn't valid?" was the interviewer's next question. I don't recall my answer but it was obviously inadequate because such an unlikely possibility hadn't occurred to me, and I wasn't admitted to that program. Looking back, it is very clear how one thing led to another so that instead of validating the Rorschach, I ended up exploring the contribution of genetic factors to stress ulcers in rats and children's personality. 相似文献
