Psychologists' perceptions of their duty to protect uninformed sex partners of HIV-positive clients.

The purpose of the present study was to determine whether mental health professionals would breach the confidentiality of HIV-infected patients with uninformed sex partners, and how any such disclosure would occur. Subjects read one of eight vignettes that depicted a patient who refused to disclose his viral status. Results revealed a split of opinion about breaching confidentiality and about the preferred mode for doing so. Neither diagnosis nor mode of viral transmission significantly influenced breaching decisions. Subjects demonstrated a high level of AIDS risk knowledge but only a moderate level of legal/ethical knowledge. Implications of these findings are discussed.     

Possible uses of Convulsofin liquid in the treatment of pediatric epilepsies

The effect of Convulsofin-liquidum on several epilepsies and types of seizure in childhood is described. Typical and atypical absences, tonic-clonic seizures of primary generalised epilepsies as well as atonic or myoclonic seizures are considered to be the main indications for the treatment with Convulsofin. To the special advantage of the application in drops especially with infants is referred.     

Computer tomography identification of carriers of Duchenne progressive muscular dystrophy

Comparison of findings obtained by computed tomography of muscles of possible carriers and normal subjects demonstrated that structural changes existed in 31 out of 74 women; the certainty of the information obtained became greater with increasing age. Six of the seven genealogically definite carriers were detected by computed tomography. The present results show that the use of computed tomography is promising for future carrier diagnosis.     

Computer tomography studies in myotonic dystrophies

Besides clinical symptoms, progress and electromyography the computer tomography is a possibility for improvement the diagnostic of myotone dystrophy. Even small changes in muscle structure are detectable and especially m. soleus exhibits early and pronounced alterations. By means of density distribution pattern an improved characterization of the disease is possible. Additional informations are obtained by cerebralcomputertomography. Hints for atrophy of brain tissue are expectable at all patients with myotone dystrophy. According to the presented findings the computer tomography enlarges the diagnostic possibilities at myotone dystrophy.     

Common sense as an ingredient of the self and the community

The new situation in Europe, as exemplified in Germany, calls for a common consciousness, one traditionally characterized as sensus communis or common sense. Kant organized his ruminations on common sense — specifically, the logical common sense — around three maxims: enlightenment, the extended way of thinking and the consistent way of thinking. These are here described with an eye to their consequences for the issues of identity, community and pedagogy.     

F-waves and H-reflexes in hemispastic syndrome

Canalized F-waves and H-reflexes occurring on small hand and foot muscles are to be considered symptoms of central disinhibition. Occurrence of these waves and reflexes in patients with hemispastic syndrome is analyzed and correlated with clinical aspects.     

Radiological pictures of the skull following brain-tumor surgery]

In 90 patients, the majority of whom was operated upon for a brain tumour, we have systematically controlled the post-operative x-ray pictures of the skull. Clips set in during surgery, calcified epiphysis and changes of the sella due to pressure were the most important signs. To complete the follow-up of tumours we should like to propose to use clips not only as a hemostyptic measure, but also to have marks in cases of possible relapses.     

Correlation between clinical and paraclinical findings in brain tumors in comparison with the operation site

On the basis of clinical material consisting of 147 brain tumors, the authors carry out a comparative investigation involving the site of the ensuing operation to ascertain the accuracy of the clinical and paraclinical diagnoses. Computed tomographic findings were deliberately excluded with the intention of focusing on the accuracy attainable by traditional means. Clinical findings, X-ray examination of the skull, ophthalmological findings, electroencephalographic and echoencephalographic data, nuclear diagnosis, and angiographic findings were all taken into account.
