Recent demonstrations of the plausibility of functional theories of persuasion have occurred within advertising contexts or
have targeted potentially nebulous or uninvolving attitudes, and may thus have demonstrated the utility of functional explanations
of attitude formation rather than attitude change. In the present study, attitudes that participants have acted on and consider
important (i.e., the criteria they use to select dating partners) were the targets of persuasion. High and low self-monitoring
individuals, who hold different dating attitudes that serve different functions, were exposed to functionally relevant or
functionally irrelevant messages that reached either proattitudinal or counterattitudinal conclusions. As anticipated by functional
theory, (a) low self-monitoring individuals changed their dating attitudes only after hearing a counterattitudinal message
that addressed thevalue-expressive functions their dating attitudes served, whereas (b) high self-monitoring individuals changed their opinions only after hearing
a counterattitudinal message that addressed thesocial-adjustive functions served by their dating attitudes. Although the data revealed that important attitudes can be changed via a functionally
relevant appeal, only the low self-monitoring individuals subsequently used their changed attitudes to guide their behavior
in a subsequent couple-matching task. Implications of these results for functional theories of persuasion and for variations
in attitude/behavior consistency were discussed.

In a diverse community sample of mothers (N = 108) and their preschool‐aged children (Mage = 3.50 years), this study conducted person‐oriented analyses of maternal emotion regulation (ER) based on a multimethod assessment incorporating physiological, observational, and self‐report indicators. A model‐based cluster analysis was applied to five indicators of maternal ER: maternal self‐report, observed negative affect in a parent–child interaction, baseline respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA), and RSA suppression across two laboratory tasks. Model‐based cluster analyses revealed four maternal ER profiles, including a group of mothers with average ER functioning, characterized by socioeconomic advantage and more positive parenting behavior. A dysregulated cluster demonstrated the greatest challenges with parenting and dyadic interactions. Two clusters of intermediate dysregulation were also identified. Implications for assessment and applications to parenting interventions are discussed. 相似文献

Health Care reform calls for collaborative team-based care; psychologists must therefore strengthen their competencies for work in interprofessional clinical care settings. Toward that end, a group of psychologists participated with physicians, dieticians, physical activity specialists, nurses, and others in a national interprofessional workgroup focused on pediatric obesity. The interprofessional group was designed to identify areas in need of national advocacy, key assessment and treatment concerns, and gaps in internal policies and procedures in children’s hospitals. This article provides a case report of psychologists’ roles and experience in this workgroup, and focuses on factors that underlie successful collaboration among diverse health professionals, as well as potential barriers to success. The participating psychologists developed a working model for collaboration with other disciplines. Additionally, they formed a Psychology Subcommittee to identify and address discipline-specific issues regarding collaborative practice in pediatric psychology. Lessons learned in this interprofessional collaborative undertaking have relevance for future collaborative endeavors. 相似文献

29 men (15 white, 14 black) who were inmates at a maximum security penitentiary were given the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised and the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test-Revised on which the full scale IQs correlated .80.
