A recall advantage for common words was not evidenced when subjects generated or rated the list words on the basis of commonness and on a semantic, phonological, or orthographic basis prior to recall. Recall of the same set of words following only structural judgments of the words resulted in the usual recall advantage for common words. Results were not consistent with interpretations based only on the associative strengths of the recalled items. A process based on categorization of the words to be recalled was suggested as an alternative explanation.  相似文献

Summary The Stroop-phenomenon in its single-trial reaction-time version is analyzed in terms of Donders's additive-components approach. The complete set of component tasks forms an incomplete factorial design, and so, for resolving reaction times into their component parts multiple regression with dummy coding is used. The results of two independent experiments confirm the asymmetry of the incongruence effect in naming and reading, but contradict the redundancy hypothesis for congruent items. This finding is consistent with the linear approach which in Exp. 1 accounts for about 45%, and in Exp. 2 for about 30%, of total reaction-time variance. In a third experiment reaction times for the detection of colours/words and for congruence/incongruence are measured. These data confirm the estimation of both the basic constant and the assumed matching component in the first two experiments. Finally it is proposed that the data can be interpreted on the assumption that a matching process is responsible for the incongruence effect in naming. Reading interference does not normally occur because of faster processes or fewer stages in a parallel reading channel. Different strategies in coping with the Strooptask (reading vs inhibition) may explain differences between Exps. 1 and 2 and the absence of the redundancy effect from the data. The constraints on such assumptions in the context of reaction-time measurement are discussed.Parts of the data analyzed here were reported at the 18th Congress of Experimental Psychology in April 1976 at Bochum. Given the assumptions that the taste sense is analytic and that the total perceived intensity of a complex taste equals the sum of the perceived intensities of the components, a new procedure was devised to scale taste intensity. Subjects matched the intensity of test substances either to the total intensity or to the intensity of one component of two-component mixtures tin which the two components appeared equally intense. Given the above-stated assumptions, such a pair of matches should define a psychological ratio of 2∶1. Scales erected by this procedure agreed well with scales determined by magnitude estimation.  相似文献

Electromyographic studies of subvocal speech are evaluated with two different aims: (1)a methodological review of controls for nonspeech artifact and of data analysis techniques, and (2) a review of substantive findings and suggestions for future research. A highly effective procedure, involving manipulation of phoneme content in certain trials, has been developed to control nonspeech artifact generated by the speech musculature. The commonly used data analysis technique of amplitude measurement of the single highest polygraph pen deflection is inadequate. Techniques which take frequency into account, such as analog computer integration of voltage values, are more sensitive. Even greater sensitivity is needed to isolate individual words so that rehearsal strategies can be investigated. It has been clearly established that preschool children as young as age 4 engage in spontaneous subvocalization that is related to recall in boys but not in girls.  相似文献

The present study compared the WISC and WISC-R on a group of psychiatric adolescent inpatients. The results indicated high intercorrelations between the two test versions but with the correlations linearly related to the changes in content and administration rules of the WISC-R. Five male/two female rat colonies were established in visible burrow systems, with males selected for pregrouping attack scores and also evaluated in open field and cat odor tests. Dominant-subordinate pregrouping attack differences suggested that the males becoming dominant are those showing more persistent and higher level attack. For six colonies showing dominant-subordinate behavioral differences, pregrouping defense tests failed to predict subordinate status. However, pregrouping defense scores were reliably correlated with subordinate pre-postgrouping change scores for voluntary ethanol consumption. Subordinates showed higher ranked ethanol consumption than dominants, but these groups were not different on pregrouping ethanol consumption. Subordinate postgrouping ethanol consumption was positively correlated with pregrouping attack toward an adult intruder, consonant with previous findings that highly aggressive subordinates are the targets of more intense attack by dominants. These results provide further support for a view that subordination stress increases voluntary ethanol consumption in male rats and suggest some additional individual differences factors that may be involved in increased ethanol consumption for male subordinates. © 1992 Wiley-Liss, Inc.  相似文献
