The transition to parenthood is a substantial challenge for many couples, and the extent to which the partners can support
each other and their relationship is strongly related to the sensitivity and responsiveness of their parenting of their infant.
This paper critically analyses the links between the couple relationship and parenting of infants and reviews the research
evaluating couple psychoeducation (CP) to assist couples’ parenting of their infant. It is concluded that CP has considerable
potential to enhance couples’ adaptation to parenthood and enhance the sensitivity and responsiveness of parenting of new

Given mounting aspirations to graduate from college and pervasive difficulties in obtaining a four-year degree, growing numbers of young people in the United States have become "underachievers." Using data from the ongoing Youth Development Study, the authors examine the prevalence of "holding on" and "letting go" of high aspirations and the precursors of these states as youth move from high school through their mid-twenties. They find that advantage stemming from the family of origin and changing occupational circumstances engender persistence or reappraisal of earlier educational goals. 相似文献

In the present study, participants identified the location of a visual target presented in a rapidly masked, changing sequence of visual distractors. In Experiment 1, we examined performance when a high tone, embedded in a sequence of low tones, was presented in synchrony with the visual target and observed that the high tone improved visual target identification, relative to a condition in which a low tone was synchronized with the visual target, thus replicating Vroomen and de Gelder's (2000, Experiment 1) findings. In subsequent experiments, we presented a single visual, auditory, vibrotactile, or combined audiotactile cue with the visual target and found similar improvements in participants' performance regardless of cue type. These results suggest that crossmodal perceptual organization may account for only a part of the improvement in participants' visual target identification performance reported in Vroomen and de Gelder's original study. Moreover, in contrast with many previous crossmodal cuing studies, our results also suggest that visual cues can enhance visual target identification performance. Alternative accounts for these results are discussed in terms of enhanced saliency, the presence of a temporal marker, and attentional capture by oddball stimuli as potential explanations for the observed performance benefits. 相似文献

The purpose of the study was to investigate male college students in the southeastern United States to identify factors associated
with consumer masculinity behavior. The variables of self-esteem and media significance were tested as possible predictors
of consumer masculinity behavior. A total of 219 surveys were used as the sample for this study. Pearson correlation analysis
tested relationships among the variables, and linear regression was used to further test the nature of the relationships identified.
Results indicated that media significance and appearance-related self-esteem were significant predictors of consumer masculinity

This study compared activity-based intentions with event- and time-based intentions. Forty-five participants completed a laboratory session that tested activity-, event-, and time-based prospective memory. Participants were then asked to keep a record of their planned academic and work-related activities for 1 week. Results revealed a main effect of context such that participants were better at performing intentions in the naturalistic setting than in the laboratory. A strong trend of intention type showed that event-based tasks were more likely to be performed than activity- and time-based tasks. An interaction of context and intention type suggested that participants were significantly better at performing time-based tasks in the naturalistic setting than in the lab. Nearly half of the participants reported using simple memory aids such as alarm clocks, parent or friend reminders, or other external cues. Traditional psychoanalytic literature describes the father as occupying a critical role in child development. The father’s
loss or absence is seen as hindering development from early infancy throughout childhood and even into adulthood. Father absence
is defined as any situation where the father is psychologically disconnected from his children, whether or not he is currently
living in the same home. Dramatic shifts have occurred in the American family over the past several decades, which have resulted
in changes for both the father and mother’s role in child development. With the increasing divorce rate and rise in single
parenthood, father-absence has become common, and a multiplicity of family forms has emerged. However, psychoanalytic ideas
regarding maternal and paternal roles have not been modified to encompass these changing family forms. Research is beginning
to show that children can develop in families that are not the traditional mother-father unit. Two case examples are provided
to examine various factors related to unresolved separation-individuation issues, and how psychoanalytic ideas regarding the
paternal and maternal functions can be used in either a modified or unmodified manner in organizing the clinical material. 相似文献
