Sir John Harington’s irreverent and iconoclastic Metamorphosis is subjected to the psychobiographic method of inquiry. The author is first analyzed in the context of his environment and
his personality structure. The volume is shown to yield several distinct thematic foci: waste as a product, with its attributions
of prurience, omnipotence, divinity, and evil; the eliminatory process and its prominence in life; and the jakes as a locale
which is intrinsically related to power, vulnerability, and thanatos. Each of these themes is pursued in a synthesis of psychoanalysis,
text analysis, and historical context. The study yields a poignant profile of a valiant challenge to taboo, while revealing

Nelson Goodman has constructed two theories of simplicity: one of predicates; one of hypotheses. I offer a simpler theory by generalization and abstraction from his. Generalization comes by dropping special conditions Goodman imposes on which unexcluded extensions count as complicating and which excluded extensions count as simplifying. Abstraction is achieved by counting only nonisomorphic models and subinterpretations. The new theory takes into account all the hypotheses of a theory in assessing its complexity, whether they were projected prior to, or result from, projection of a given hypothesis. It assigns simplicity post-projection priority over simplicity pre-projection. It better orders compound conditionals than does the theory of simplicity of hypotheses, and it does not inherit an anomaly of the theory of simplicity of predicates — its failure to order the ordering relations. The stability of anxiety states and symptoms was assessed in a sample of 150 anxious and nonanxious children. A number of assessment methods including a semistructured interview, self-report instruments, psychophysiological measures, and parental reports were used initially and at intervals up to 6 months later. The majority of children with a diagnosed anxiety disorder at the initial assessment still manifested significant symptomatology at the 6 month follow-up. However, stability of specific anxiety symptoms when assessed by self- and parental reports was mixed. With respect to psychophysiological assessment, stability of responses was evident at 2 weeks but not after 6 months. Results are discussed in terms of the stability of diagnoses and symptomatology, and the need for thematically relevant self-reports and behavioral assessment tasks. Recommendations are made for the development of a reliable, multimethod strategy to assess the multiple domains of childhood anxiety.This study was supported in part by NIMH Grant MH43252. 相似文献

Multidisciplinary pre-cardiac transplantation evaluations determine an individual's ability to benefit from potential transplantation. Psychologists are routinely consulted to perform psychological evaluations and testing to examine the candidate's current functioning and to forecast future functioning in the event of transplantation. The establishment of appropriate norms for psychological tests is an ethical imperative to provide high quality psychological consultations that maximize the utility of information gathered. The purpose of this paper is to present pre-cardiac transplant norms for a battery of psychological tests in a large population of consecutive transplant candidates. Together with other recently published norms on alternative test batteries, these norms allow the transplant psychologist to select from a range of psychological tests that span multiple domains of critical importance including the affective, behavioral, coping, cognitive, and health related quality of life domains. These norms appear to set a standard of practice for the use of psychological tests by a consulting transplantation psychologist. 相似文献

Psychometric assessment protocols were used to chart the course of 287 end-stage cardiac patients' psychological adjustment at pretransplantation and, again, in 34 who were subsequently transplanted. The regression and repeated-measures analyses suggested that psychological distress is typical of the adult transplantation candidate, although impaired cognitive functioning is more typical of the acute postoperative stage. Negative affect, cognitive, personality, and coping measures are interrelated at pretransplantation; depression and mental control show significant decreases at 2 weeks posttransplantation. Whereas the transplantation process is inherently distressing, psychological testing may identify cognitive and personality features that require more specific clinical attention. 相似文献

Three methods for programming the differential reinforcement of low rate were explained, labeled, illustrated by research studies, and analyzed, but not compared. Spaced Responding DRL, the first and most common method in laboratory studies, was illustrated through the reduction of the inappropriate questioning by three behaviorally disturbed children. Full Session DRL, the most common method in applied studies, was illustrated through the reduction of talk-outs by an EMR male. Interval DRL, not previously presented in either applied or laboratory literature, was illustrated through the reduction of talk-outs by a 6-yr-old first grade girl.
