Five experiments are reported in which the perception of the order of the components of line drawn patterns presented in rapid temporal sequence on a visual display unit was investigated. In experiments 1 and 2, respectively, a schematic face and an asymmetrical geometric design, and a realistic face and a symmetrical geometric design were each divided into four fragments consisting of outline and three internal features. These fragments were presented to observers in sequences in which the position of the outline in the sequence was systematically varied. Observers reported the perceived order of the fragments. If the order was misperceived the interfragment interval was increased until the sequence was correctly perceived. Analysis of the pattern of perceptual errors and the interfragment presentation interval at which the sequence was correctly perceived indicated that observers tended to perceive the sequence correctly when the outline was presented in first or last position, but had difficulty in doing this when it occupied an intermediate position. This effect was significantly stronger with facial than with geometric patterns. Furthermore, in the case of two face patterns, errors were of a form where observers reported the outline presented in positions two or three as occupying positions one or four respectively. In experiment 3 an identical procedure was used to compare the perception of temporally fragmented normal and inverted faces. The outline position effect was equally strong in both cases. In experiment 4 the relative strength of the tendency to move the outline towards first or final position was assessed by dividing each of two patterns, a face and a house, into three fragments consisting of outline and two groups of internal features. Order perception was significantly better with outline in first or third position, but where it was presented in the intermediate position it was reported as being presented in first position. In experiment 5 the general pattern of results obtained in experiments 1, 2, and 3 was verified with the use of a methodology in which pattern fragment sequences and interfragment intervals were both randomised from trial to trial and the observer's task was to specify the position of the outline in the sequence. Four patterns--a normal face, a face with inverted internal features (INF face), a face outline with irrelevant internal features (IRF face), and a geometric design--were each divided into four fragments consisting of outline and three internal features.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 400 WORDS) 相似文献
Recent studies underscore the importance of studying d-cycloserine (DCS) augmentation under conditions of adequate cue exposure treatment (CET) and protection from reconditioning experiences. In this randomized trial, we evaluated the efficacy of DCS for augmenting CET for smoking cessation under these conditions.
Sixty-two smokers attained at least 18 hours abstinence following 4 weeks of smoking cessation treatment and were randomly assigned to receive a single dose of DCS (n=30) or placebo (n=32) prior to each of two sessions of CET. Mechanistic outcomes were self-reported cravings and physiologic reactivity to smoking cues. The primary clinical outcome was 6-week, biochemically-verified, continuous tobacco abstinence.
DCS, relative to placebo, augmentation of CET resulted in lower self-reported craving to smoking pictorial and in vivo cues (d = 0.8 to 1.21) in a relevant subsample of participants who were reactive to cues and free from smoking-related reconditioning experiences. Select craving outcomes were correlated with smoking abstinence, and DCS augmentation was associated with a trend toward a higher continuous abstinence rate (33% vs. 13% for placebo augmentation).
DCS augmentation of CET can significantly reduce cue-induced craving, supporting the therapeutic potential of DCS augmentation when applied under appropriate conditions for adequate extinction learning. 相似文献
The current quasi-experiment examined changes in youth baseball players’ (N = 9) swing performance following an imagery intervention. Athletes participated in one of three conditions, each of which employed a different combination of slow-motion (SM), real-time (RT), or fast-motion (FM) image speeds: SM?+?RT, RT?+?FM, or SM?+?RT?+?FM. A single-subject multiple-baseline design was employed. The intervention approximated the real-world environment in which baseball players practice, thus, increasing representative design. Results generally indicated positive changes across all three conditions, however, the SM?+?RT?+?FM condition exhibited the most improvement. The employment of a multiple-speed imagery intervention appears to be a viable option for young athletes.Lay Summary: Can using a combination of slow-motion, real-time, and fast-motion imagery improve baseball batting performance? It is hypothesized that recollections of an individual's parental behaviour towards them is associated with their view of their current family functioning. This hypothesis was tested for using data provided by 213 men and 270 women drawn at age 50 from the Newcastle Thousand Families Study. Relationships between retrospective reports of parental behaviour during childhood and perceptions of current family functioning at age 50 were investigated using a univariate regression analysis in order to explore the relationship between scores on the Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI) and the McMaster Family Assessment Device (FAD). Where a significant association was observed the relationship between subscale scores was further examined using a multivariate regression analysis including gender and self‐reported psychological well‐being (as measured by the General Health Questionnaire‐ GHQ) as covariates. Several statistically significant associations between PBI and FAD subscale scores were observed. Four of these remained statistically significant once gender and self‐reported psychological well‐being were adjusted for. In this population sample, aspects of recalled parental behaviour were associated with the health of current family functioning in several domains as reported by the FAD. These associations appear to be partly mediated by current psychological well‐being. 相似文献
