In a sample of 105 students, the dimensionality of a moral intensity scale developed by Singhapakdi, Vitell, and Kraft in 1996 was assessed. Principal components analysis yielded a one-factor solution across 10 ethics scenarios, indicating that moral intensity may be treated as a unidimensional construct in some situations.  相似文献

Displays were presented consisting of a perspective projection of a regular square grid, made up of vertical and horizontal equally spaced white lines, that was slanted in depth. The surface was viewed monocularly, through a circular aperture. A range of slants was shown (0 degree, 10 degrees, 20 degrees, 30 degrees, 40 degrees, 50 degrees, or 60 degrees) and the observers' task was to match the slant by means of a mouse-driven probe. The viewing distance (50, 75, or 100 cm) as well as the focal distance (25, 50, 75, 100, or 125 cm) were varied. We expected the estimation error to be smallest when the viewing distance and the focal distance coincided. This was not the case. Instead, subjects seemed to use the perspective deformation of the texture elements in the stimulus display to make a slant estimation, regardless of the specific combination of viewing distance and focal distance.  相似文献

Previous investigation found that the speed of saccadic eye movements is enhanced when a temporal interval (gap) is introduced between the disappearance of a foveal fixation mark and the appearance of a peripheral target (the gap paradigm). Attention was shown to be involved in the gap paradigm. Here, we investigated relevant temporal and spatial characteristics of attention, manipulating central fixation marks and peripheral targets. Results from three experiments indicate that (i) the speed of manual and eye-movement detection is accelerated when a fixation mark changes abruptly (in less than 100 ms) before its termination in the gap paradigm; (ii) the speed is further accelerated when a peripheral target location is pre-cued; (iii) sufficient time for fixation (1000 ms) is necessary for the facilitation. These results suggest that fast and transient attention at the fixation spot facilitates attentional disengagement process that urges a spatial-orienting mechanism. Sustained attention is required in the engagement process during the fixation.  相似文献

We examine how differently oriented components contribute to the discrimination of motion direction along a horizontal axis. Stimuli were two-frame random-dot kinematograms that were narrowband filtered in spatial frequency. On each trial, subjects had to state whether motion was to the left or the right. For each stimulus condition, Dmax (the largest displacement supporting 80% correct direction discrimination performance) was measured. In experiment 1, Dmax was measured for orientationally narrowband stimuli as a function of their mean orientation. Dmax was found to increase as the orientation of the stimuli became closer to the axis of motion. Experiment 2 used isotropic stimuli in which some orientation bands contained a coherent motion signal, and some contained only noise. When the noise band started at vertical orientations and increased until only horizontal orientations contained a coherent motion signal, Dmax increased slightly. This suggests that near-vertical orientations interfere with motion perception at large displacements when they contain a coherent motion signal. When the noise band started at horizontal and increased until only vertical orientations contained the motion signal, Dmax decreased steadily. This implies that Dmax depends at least partly on the most horizontal motion signal in the stimulus. These results were contrasted with two models. In the first, the visual system utilises the most informative orientations (nearest horizontal). In the second, all available orientations are used equally. Results supported an intermediate interpretation, in which all orientations are used but more informative ones are weighted more heavily.  相似文献

Transfer from perception to action is well documented, for instance in the form of observational learning. Transfer from action to perception, on the other hand, has not been researched. Such action-perception transfer (APT) is compatible with several learning theories and has been predicted within the framework of common coding of perceptual and motor events (Prinz, 1992, 1997). Our first experiment aimed at an empirical evaluation of APT and involved motor practice of timed two-cycle arm movements on verbal command without visual feedback. In a transfer test, visual judgments of similar patterns had to be made. In addition, transfer from the visual to the motor task was studied. In Experiment 2 we separated kinesthetic aspects of motor practice from preparatory and efferent contributions to APT. The experiments provide evidence that transfer between perception and action is bi-directional. Transfer from perception to action and, more importantly, from action to perception was found. Furthermore, APT was equally pronounced for participants who had actively practiced movements during training and for passive participants who had received merely kinesthetic feedback about the movement. This kinesthetic-visual transfer is likely to be achieved via visuomotor-kinesthetic matching or via timekeeping mechanisms that are involved in both motor and visual performance. S. M. Smith and D. R. Tindell (1997) reported that prior study of words that are orthographically similar to the solutions of test word fragments (e.g., studying ANALOGY and completing the fragment A_L _ _GY, whose solution is ALLERGY) reduced the fragment completion rate relative to a baseline condition in which unrelated words were studied. They called this effect the memory-block effect. In the present experiment, the authors replicated this effect using a larger set of materials than that used by S. M. Smith and D. R. Tindell. The authors also found that dividing attention at study eliminated the memory-block effect. This pattern mimicked the effect of dividing attention on recognition memory but differed from the effect on repetition priming effects. The authors suggest that the memory-block effect is driven by a mechanism different from that responsible for producing repetition priming effects in an implicit fragment completion test.  相似文献

Knockout mice lacking the alpha-1b adrenergic receptor were tested in behavioral experiments. Reaction to novelty was first assessed in a simple test in which the time taken by the knockout mice and their littermate controls to enter a second compartment was compared. Then the mice were tested in an open field to which unknown objects were subsequently added. Special novelty was introduced by moving one of the familiar objects to another location in the open field. Spatial behavior and memory were further studied in a homing board test, and in the water maze. The alpha-1b knockout mice showed an enhanced reactivity to new situations. They were faster to enter the new environment, covered longer paths in the open field, and spent more time exploring the new objects. They reacted like controls to modification inducing spatial novelty. In the homing board test, both the knockout mice and the control mice seemed to use a combination of distant visual and proximal olfactory cues, showing place preference only if the two types of cues were redundant. In the water maze the alpha-1b knockout mice were unable to learn the task, which was confirmed in a probe trial without platform. They were perfectly able, however, to escape in a visible platform procedure. These results confirm previous findings showing that the noradrenergic pathway is important for the modulation of behaviors such as reaction to novelty and exploration, and suggest that this is mediated, at least partly, through the alpha-1b adrenergic receptors. The lack of alpha-1b adrenergic receptors in spatial orientation does not seem important in cue-rich tasks but may interfere with orientation in situations providing distant cues only.  相似文献
