Reliable Digit Span (RDS) is a heavily researched symptom validity test with a recent literature review yielding more than 20 studies ranging in dates from 1994 to 2011. Unfortunately, limitations within some of the research minimize clinical generalizability. This systematic review and cross-validation study was conducted to address these limitations, thus increasing the measure's clinical utility. Sensitivity and specificity rates were calculated for the ≤6 and ≤7 cutoffs when data were globally combined and divided by clinical groups. The cross-validation of specific diagnostic groups was consistent with the data reported in the literature. Overall, caution should be used when utilizing the ≤7 cutoff in all clinical groups and when utilizing the ≤6 cutoff in the following groups: cerebrovascular accident, severe memory disorders, mental retardation, borderline intellectual functioning, and English as a second language. In this article, I argue that political polarization is supported by combative discourse—a discourse that fosters hostility
and division, closing off possibilities for understanding, agreement, cooperation or compromise. Combative discourse and resulting
political polarization signify a societal enactment, which is a form of resistance to accountability, understanding, and change.
From this analysis, I propose a pastoral response, redemptive discourse, which is founded on three Christian metaphors, namely

A theoretical model in which perceived burdensomeness and thwarted belongingness were hypothesized to account for the association between sexual orientation and suicidal ideation among college students was tested. Among 198 college students (mean age 21.28 years), gay, lesbian, and bisexual students (n = 50) reported significantly higher levels of perceived burdensomeness and suicidal ideation than heterosexual students. The relationship between sexual orientation and suicidal ideation was partially accounted for by perceived burdensomeness, but not thwarted belongingness. This indirect effect was stronger at higher levels of perceived or anticipated rejection due to one’s sexual orientation. Implications for intervention and prevention science are discussed. 相似文献

Maximum likelihood confirmatory factor analysis was applied to the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Third Edition (WISC-III; Wechsler, 1991) data of a mixed clinical sample of 318 children. Analyses were designed to determine which of nine hypothesized oblique factor solutions could best explain intelligence as measured by the WISC-III in the clinical sample. Competing latent variable models were identified in previous studies, and results in the clinical sample were cross-validated by testing all models in the WISC-III standardization sample (n = 2200). Findings in both the clinical and standardization samples supported a five-factor model including Verbal Comprehension, Constructional Praxis, Visual Reasoning, Freedom from Distractibility, and Processing Speed factors. The Visual Reasoning factor was defined primarily by Picture Arrangement, whereas Mazes did not appear to improve model fit. Potential opportunities and pitfalls with regard to the interpretation of the proposed Visual Reasoning factor are discussed. 相似文献

The goals of this study were to determine the relations between having a balanced time perspective (BTP) with various measures of subjective well-being (SWB) and to test how various operationalizations of a BTP might impact the relation between having a BTP and SWB. We operationalized a balanced time perspective using: (a) Drake et al.’s Time Soc 17(1):47–61, (2008) cut-off-point method, (b) Boniwell et al.’s J Posit Psychol 5(1):24–40, (2010) suggestion of using a hierarchical cluster analysis, and (c) a deviation from a balanced time perspective (DBTP; Stolarski et al. Time Soc, 2011). The results demonstrated that having a BTP is related to increased satisfaction with life, happiness, positive affect, psychological need satisfaction, self-determination, vitality, and gratitude as well as decreased negative affect. Also, the DBTP was the best predictor of SWB. We discuss why individuals with a BTP are likely to be happier in life. 相似文献

We quantitatively summarized the relationship between Five-Factor Model personality traits, job burnout dimensions (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal accomplishment), and absenteeism, turnover, and job performance. All five of the Five-Factor Model personality traits had multiple true score correlations of .57 with emotional exhaustion, .46 with depersonalization, and .52 with personal accomplishment. Also, all three dimensions of job burnout had multiple correlations of .23 with absenteeism, .33 with turnover, and .36 with job performance. Meta-analytic path modeling indicated that the sequential ordering of job burnout dimensions was contingent on the focal outcome, supporting three different models of the burnout process. Finally, job burnout partially mediated the relationships between Five-Factor Model personality traits and turnover and job performance while fully mediating the relationships with absenteeism. 相似文献

The current research distinguishes two types of attention shifts: those entailed by perceptual learning and those entailed by changing intention. In perceptual learning, participants given feedback have been shown to gradually shift attention toward the optimal (i.e., specifying) information variable for the task. A shift in variable use is also expected when intention changes, because an intention to perceive some property entails attunement to information about that property. We compared the effects of feedback and intention in a dynamic (kinesthetic) touch task by representing both as changes of locus in an information space of inertial variables. Participants wielded variously sized, unseen, rectangular parallelepipeds and made length or width judgments about them. When given feedback, participants made gradual attentional shifts toward the optimal variable, which demonstrates the education of attention. When asked to report a new property, participants made large attentional jumps to the ballpark of the optimal variable for the new property. Exploratory movements were measured on 6 participants and were found to differ as a function of intention and to change with learning. 相似文献

In this article, I depict four types of relational faith (functional-cooperative, oppositional-closed, mutual-person, and transcendent) and their relation to emotional intelligence. I begin with a brief definition of emotional intelligence, as well as the research that has supported a shift in understanding the necessity of emotions in cognitive and social development. This sets the stage for describing the types of relational faith, using the notion of emotional intelligence to differentiate between adaptive and maladaptive manifestations of each faith type. Previous research has shown that anxious adults provide more threat interpretations of ambiguous stimuli than other clinic and nonclinic persons. We were interested in investigating if the same bias occurs in anxious children and how family processes impact on these children's interpretations of ambiguity. Anxious, oppositional, and nonclinical children and their parents were asked separately to interpret and provide plans of action to ambiguous scenarios. Afterwards, Each family was asked to discuss two of these situations as a family and for the child to provide a final response. The results showed that anxious and oppositional children were both more likely to interpret ambiguous scenarios in a threatening manner. However, the two clinic groups differed in that the anxious children predominantly chose avoidant solutions whereas the oppositional children chose aggressive solutions. After family discussions, both the anxious children's avoidant plans of action and the oppositional children's aggressive plans increased. Thus, this study provides the first evidence of family enhancement of avoidant and aggressive responses in children. These results support a model of anxiety that emphasizes the development of an anxious cognitive style in the context of anxiety-supporting family processes.This research was supported by grants from The National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia, The University of Queensland, and The Myer Foundation of Australia.
