To what extent can human observers process visual information that is not currently the focus of attention? We evaluated the extent to which unattended visual information (i.e., that which appears on the neglected side of space in individuals with hemispatial neglect) is perceptually organized and influences the perceptual processing of information on the attended side. To examine this, patients (and matched controls) judged whether successive, complex checkerboard stimuli (targets), presented entirely to their intact side of space, were the same or different. Concurrent with this demanding task, irrelevant distractor elements appeared on the unattended side and either changed or retained their perceptual grouping on successive displays, independently of changes in the ipsilesional task-relevant target. Changes in the grouping of the unattended task-irrelevant distractor elements produced congruency effects on the attended target-change judgment to the same extent in the neglect patients as in the control participants, and this was true even in those patients with severe attentional deficits. These results suggest that some perceptual processes, such as grouping, can operate in the absence of attention. 相似文献

The results of a study concerning the social situation of students in psychoanalytic training in DPG institutes are presented. The study based on a questionnaire worked out at the meetings of the spokesmen of DPG candidates as a reaction to the changing external conditions. The Psychotherapist Act, the introduction of a new medical specialization and the planning of demand have put a considerable strain on the training conditions and have led to reduced numbers of applicants also because more and more competing, low cost training courses for psychotherapy have come onto the market. Data are presented concerning age, gender, marital status of students, beginning and termination of training, original profession of students, means of funding, frequency and costs of training analysis and supervision, as well as monthly income and expenses. The findings show for example that students nowadays are considerably older than they used to be (see Pohl 1974 and Pollmann 1985), the number of men in training decreased as well as the number of physicians while the number of women and psychologists increased. The frequency and the expenses for training analysis strongly increased while the income decreased. Many students therefore can no longer fund their training by their current income. In addition the assumption is confirmed that psychoanalytic training takes considerably longer than required by the law. As a consequence it seems necessary to reduce costs and duration of training in order to keep psychoanalytic training competitive and practicable for applicants. Therefore it is proposed by the authors to give credit for theory acquired elsewhere, to start treating patients at earlier stages of training, to allow group supervision on a larger scale and to bring the costs for training analysis and supervision in line with the rates paid by the health insurance companies in order to keep costs manageable. Other means of support, such as scholarships or reasonable loans are discussed. It is proposed to promote and further use the innovative and creative potential of candidates at an early stage to prompt research and development of psychoanalysis. It is imperative to promote psychoanalysis in the public so that it can defend its place in society and make its contribution to public health. 相似文献

The present study was designed to examine ethnicity, acculturation, and religiosity as predictors of European American and
Korean American evangelical female college students' role expectations. Fifty-seven European American and 37 Korean American
single women, who ranged in age from 17 to 24 years, completed a demographic questionnaire, a role expectation measure, three
religiosity measures, and an acculturation measure. The results indicated a significant negative correlation between fundamentalism
and role-sharing expectations for European American women and a significant positive correlation between level of acculturation
and role-sharing expectations for Korean American women. The results suggest that fundamentalism is a stronger predictor of
role expectations than religious commitment in European American women and that acculturation is a more accurate predictor

The present offers a pragmatic solution of the Heap Paradox, based on the idea that vague predicates are “indexical” in the
sense that their denotation does not only depend on the context of their use, but it is a function of the context. The analysis
is based on the following three claims. The borderlines of vague terms are undetermined in the sense that though they may
be determined in some contexts, they may differ from one context to the next. Vagueness serves the important communicative
function, enabling speakers to identify entities as objects (as things we can talk about) in terms of some quantitative differences
between the “object” and its background in the context. Thus, in some contexts we can naturally partition the group of men
uniquely so as to distinguish the bald from the not-bald. Whether a man with a given hair number is among the bald in a given
context depends not only on his own hair number but also on the hair number of others in that context. This provides the background
for the claim that when we assert that John is bald, we presuppose that there is a unique demarcation to the bald in that
context. I consider the truth of the Paradox’s statements in contexts where the presupposition is true and in contexts where
it is false. The analysis yields that the contradiction is avoided because though each of the statements is often true, never

The current study compared high-functioning children with autism (HFA) and a peer control group on an immediate arousal task measuring response inhibition. In one condition go stimuli were presented whereas in another condition a tone preceded the go stimulus. The tone caused an immediate arousal effect, which resulted in a reaction time decrease and an error rate increase. It was expected that children with HFA would produce a higher error rate in comparison with normal peers, since they might be less able to suppress immediate arousal. Although there is a small but growing body of literature examining the psychopathology of anxiety among Native Americans, no data are available regarding the efficacy of empirically supported treatments for anxiety disorders among Native Americans. Moreover, exceptional challenges arise in adapting mainstream approaches to Native Americans, such as language barriers, contrasting beliefs about the cause and treatment of emotional illness between mainstream and traditional Native American culture, problems with homework compliance, allowing extra time for rapport building, and the need for a spiritual component in the treatment of anxiety disorders. Native Americans also confront the challenges of rural living and low socioeconomic status. The focus of this article is largely conceptual in nature, informed by the limited psychopathology data and the first author’s experience with cognitive behavioral treatment protocols for anxiety disorders and the provision of mental health services to Native Americans.
