In the coda, Frie and Grand mutually explore what facilitated their process of interaction and dialogue. Frie is the grandson of a Nazi party member, and Grand is the daughter of an American Jewish soldier who liberated Dachau. Through Frie’s article and Grand’s discussion, they worked together to find an I–Thou relation in the shadow of this history. Their interaction in the coda focuses on issues of historicity, ethical clarity, and moral responsibility. They explore our internalized perpetrator legacies—how these legacies live within us, and how we can know, contain, and repair these histories. Pigeons chose between two options on a concurrent‐chains task with a single response requirement in the initial link. The suboptimal option ended with food 20% of the time whereas the optimal option ended with food 80% of the time. During a Sig‐Both condition, terminal‐link stimuli on both options signaled whether or not food would occur. During a Sig‐Sub condition, terminal‐link stimuli on the suboptimal option provided differential signals, but stimuli on the optimal option did not differentially signal the food and no food outcomes. Initial‐link choices revealed a clear preference for the optimal option in the Sig‐Both condition, but preference shifted toward suboptimality in the Sig‐Sub condition. These findings show that pigeon suboptimal choice is not singularly driven by signal value, as has been suggested, but also by reinforcer frequency. 相似文献

Debates over seminary education have been at the heart of some of the most heated denominational battles and schisms, often focusing on doctrines being taught at the seminaries. This research moves beyond the debates over specific teachings and explains how seminaries cultivate distinctive social capital (e.g., resources secured through social networks) and religious capital (e.g., mastery of and attachment to a specific religious culture). Using historical and contemporary examples, we illustrate how seminaries provide clergy with social and religious capital that is distinctive from that of the laity. Finally, using Brunette-Hill's 1994 survey of Milwaukee clergy and the Educational Testing Service's 1996 survey of exiting seminarians, we test two propositions on seminary training and religious capital. 相似文献

Cooperative learning is commonly used to promote prosocial outcomes. It is often assumed that all types of cooperative learning are equal. One way in which cooperative learning procedures differ is in the role of conflict. This study compares the relative impact of two types of cooperative learning (concurrence-seeking which emphasizes harmony among students and academic controversy which emphasizes intellectual conflict among students) on outcomes of a health education program focusing on tobacco use, alcohol use, and AIDS. Participants were 37 students from grades 9–12 in a career-education track in a suburban mid-western high school. The students were classified as being low performing academically and at risk for destructive health habits. Students in the controversy condition, compared with those in the concurrence-seeking condition, significantly improved in knowledge about AIDS, developed healthier attitudes related towards safe sex and cigarettes, developed higher academic self-esteem, generated greater social influence, and improved in constructive conflict skills. 相似文献
