Stepfamilies are increasing in number in Canada and around the world. Adults and children, specifically adolescents, can be challenged by the ambiguous roles that may happen in new family dynamics. Stepfamily members need to discover and discuss the perceptions and expectations of the individuals within the stepfamily to avoid distressful feelings and behaviours. Understanding how society can influence the perceptions of a family, and the effects of this influence, is explored. Family therapists can map the use of narrative techniques of re-membering, and re-authoring as described in Michael White’s Maps of Narrative Practice to help bring a stepfamily to new understandings about each other and the family unit. 相似文献

Abstract Low energy (50 eV) implantation of boron and silicon into crystalline Si through the {110} and {100} faces is studied by a molecular dynamics simulation and the results compared with a binary-collision crystalline computer model and SIMS data. It is found that long-range channelling of the B particles takes place and that their ranges far exceed those predicted by transport theory in random media or Monte-Carlo computer models. It is found that channelling of B occurs only in the 〈110〉 direction. The Si atoms which are displaced by more than the nearest-neighbour spacing always originate from near to the surface as a result of direct knock-ons from ions which do not channel. These displacements show a distinct angular dependence because of the crystalline nature of the solid. For the Si implantation, the attractive forces between the incoming ion and the crystal atoms play an important role in limiting the ion range. 相似文献

Research examining intimate partner violence (IPV) has lacked a comprehensive theoretical framework for understanding and treating behavior. The authors propose two complementary models, a treatment approach (Motivational Interviewing, MI) informed by a theory (Self-Determination Theory; SDT), as a way of integrating existing knowledge and suggesting new directions in intervening early with IPV perpetrators. MI is a client-centered clinical intervention intended to assist in strengthening motivation to change and has been widely implemented in the substance abuse literature. SDT is a theory that focuses on internal versus external motivation and considers elements that impact optimal functioning and psychological well-being. These elements include psychological needs, integration of behavioral regulations, and contextual influences on motivation. Each of these aspects of SDT is described in detail and in the context of IPV etiology and intervention using motivational interviewing. 相似文献

Association between maternal sensitivity and externalizing behavior from preschool to preadolescence

Using data from the longitudinal NICHD Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development (N = 1364), this study examined the association between mothers' sensitivity and children's externalizing behavior from preschool to preadolescence. Externalizing behavior declined on average across this period with a slowing of this decline around middle childhood. Maternal sensitivity remained relatively stable on average, and there was significant variation across mothers. A decrease in maternal sensitivity from ages 3 to 11 was related to an increase in externalizing behavior from ages 4 to 12. A model-based test of the direction of the effect suggested that the association between changes in maternal sensitivity and externalizing behavior from ages 4 to 11 was driven by child effects on mothers and not vice-versa. Between late preschool age and preadolescence, the behavior problems of children appear to strongly influence the sensitive support of mothers. We investigated whether group influence can change judgments even for high-consensus (i.e., unambiguous) moral norms. We found that participants often matched the judgment of the other current group members even when this moral judgment was normatively incorrect (nonstandard), and this occurred more for more ambiguous issues. Moreover, this social influence on public judgments was generally followed by private agreement and re-interpreting general values to be consistent with those judgements. We also found that participants who experienced a fit between their regulatory focus and their feelings of power (i.e., promotion/high power; prevention/low power) were less influenced by the group. 相似文献

Linguistic dependencies between non‐adjacent words have been shown to cause comprehension difficulty, compared with local dependencies. According to one class of sentence comprehension accounts, non‐local dependencies are difficult because they require the retrieval of the first dependent from memory when the second dependent is encountered. According to these memory‐based accounts, making the first dependent accessible at the time when the second dependent is encountered should help alleviate the difficulty associated with the processing of non‐local dependencies. In a dual‐task paradigm, participants read sentences that did or did not contain a non‐local dependency (i.e., object‐ and subject‐extracted cleft constructions) while simultaneously remembering a word. The memory task was aimed at making the word held in memory accessible throughout the sentence. In an object‐extracted cleft (e.g., It was Ellen whom John consulted…), the object (Ellen) must be retrieved from memory when consulted is encountered. In the critical manipulation, the memory word was identical to the verb's object (ELLEN). In these conditions, the extraction effect was reduced in the comprehension accuracy data and eliminated in the reading time data. These results add to the body of evidence supporting memory‐based accounts of syntactic complexity. 相似文献
