Roderick Smith 《Journal of School Psychology》1988,26(4):341-357The validity of a test battery, organized by a theoretical framework of levels of language processing and production, was evaluated at the end of kindergarten and theend of first grade. At the end of kindergarten two levels of oral language, phonemic and lexical, and at the end of first grade three levels of oral language, phonemic, lexical, and text, were correlated with word decoding and reading comprehension. At the end of first grade, the combination of phonemic and lexical skills accounted for more variance in both word decoding and reading comprehension than either phonemic or lexical skills alone. The strength of the relationship between specific levels of oral language and specific component reading skills changed after formal reading instruction was introduced. Functional relationships were found between improvement in phonemic skills or lexical skills and improvement in word decoding. Partial correlations between two levels of oral language with a third partialed out (receptive or expressive task requirements held constant) provided evidence for three semiindependent levels of oral language—phonemic, lexical, and text. Because the battery has concurrent and construct validity, school psychologists can use it to monitor beginning readers in order to prevent reading disabilities due to subtle language dysfunctions. 相似文献

Talking computers employing computer-generated speech feedback have been used to remediate the literacy skills of dyslexic readers. A computer program is described that employs DECtalk, a highlevel speech synthesizer, to narrate instruction involving intensive training in identifying whole words or in identifying and blending word segments corresponding to onsets, rimes, and phonemes. Procedures for developing individualized instruction are described as well as for constructing and editing the speech and graphics features of the program. Neurologically impaired dyslexic children trained with this program achieved greater acquisition and transfer of word recognition skill when their training involved segmented rather than whole word feedback. 相似文献

This experiment was designed to determine the extent to which performance differences on learning tasks arising from infantile handling reflect learning or emotionality differences. Handled and nonhandled rats were trained and tested in a controlled operant situation where a response on every other trial yielded reinforcement. A key light was turned on for 10 sec during each trial and was off during the 10-sec intertrial interval. The reinforced (S+) trials alternated in a regular sequence with nonreinforced (S–) trials. The pattern of S+ and S– trials recycled continuously throughout the session of 160 trials. The handled rats emitted more responses during both S+ and S– trials than did the nonhandled rats. However, when they were compared on the percentage of emitted responses that were reinforced, there was no significant differences between the two groups. These results were interpreted to suggest that infantile handling does not directly facilitate associative learning in rats.This research was aided by a grant from the National Research Council of Canada, 67-0247. The essay aims to contextualize and clarify the book’s core argument about the theoretical and empirical fruitfulness of decompositional dual-aspect monism as an intervention into the mind-body problem that ascribes a pivotal role to meaning. The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) was constructed at the University of Minnesota before and during World War II. In its developmental phase, the MMPI was conceputalized as an efficient way of detecting psychiatric disturbance. The test's construction was made possible by atypical cooperation between psychologists and psychiatrists, within the context of a crisis in the U.S. public mental health care system. The MMPI was designed to meet the diagnostic needs of psychiatrists. As such, it represented the operationalization of medical hegemony. However, the interpretation of the MMPI shifted significantly after the war, reflecting organizational reform in clinical psychology and changing professional relationships between psychologists and psychiatrists. 相似文献

Experiences of psychological contract breach have been associated with a range of negative behavior. However, much of the research has focused on master of business administration alumni and managers and made use of self-reported outcomes. Studying a sample of customer service employees, the research found that psychological contract breach was related to lower organizational trust, which, in turn was associated with perceptions of less cooperative employment relations and higher levels of absenteeism. Furthermore, perceptions of external market pressures moderated the effect of psychological contract breach on absenteeism. The study indicated that psychological contract breach can arise when employees perceive discrepancies between an organization's espoused behavioral standards and its actual behavioral standards, and this can affect discretionary absence. 相似文献

The unconditioned reactions of Mongolian gerbils to peanuts rolled in sucrose octa-acetate (SOA) or denatomium benzoate (Bitrex) were studied in Experiment 1. Although SOA evokes as high a bitterness rating among humans as quinine salts, the gerbils' latency to ingest a nut flavoured with the former was similar to that to an unflavoured nut. Their oral latency to a nut that was flavoured with Bitrex was longer than to either an unflavoured one or one flavoured with SOA. However, the fact that they ingested a nut flavoured with the “most bitter substance known to man” within 70 sec after contact is surprising. Experiment 2 dealt with the effects of a peanut that was either unflavoured or flavoured with SOA or quinine and then paired with a LiCl injection. The oral latency of these gerbils to a nut conveying such flavours was assessed for six days after this conditioning. A nut flavoured with quinine acquired aversive properties but not ones that were flavoured with SOA or were unflavoured. Similar results were observed in Experiment 3, when hamsters were tested under comparable conditions. The theoretical implications of these results are discussed. 相似文献
