Expectancy and value scores from 376 engineers were used to develop a taxonomy of nine psychological categories, these being differentially related to motivation and satisfaction. Static and longitudinal analyses (over 4 years) revealed significant relationships between age, prior category, and organizational reward practices, on the one hand, and the distribution and movement of respondents across categories, on the other. Results suggested a dynamic, three-stage psychological model of careers in engineering.  相似文献

Trains of brief clicks produced successively at 3 points in a horizontal array were not localized accurately. Observers reported clicks occurring in succession across the spaces between sources as well as at the sources themselves. The illusion is functionally related to interstimulus interval, number of clicks per speaker, and regularity of pulsing. It appears similar to Geldard and Sherrick's cutaneous "rabbit" illusion.  相似文献

In Experiment I, prior experience with passive-avoidance training followed by latent extinction was given 1, 3, 5, or 15 days before criterion (re) training and an amnesic treatment. It produced nearly complete protection from retrograde amnesia at the three shorter intervals; at the longest interval, amnesia was present but less severe than in a control group without the familiarization. In Experiment II, prior experience was given 1, 5, or 15 days before a noncontingent shock and an amnesic treatment. Evidence of a reactivation of memory was obtained only at the longest interval. Thus, familiarization and reactivation seem to represent different processes. The results are interpreted as consistent with explanations stressing the disruption of retrieval in retrograde amnesia.  相似文献

Three groups of rats were exposed to pairs of three different contingencies on two sides of a shuttlebox. One signaled contingency provided 10-min danger and safety cues plus an additional 10-sec cue immediately preceeding shock (P-S), another signaled contingency provided 10-min danger and safety cues but random 10-sec cues with respect to shock (R-S), and an unsignaled contingency provided no safety period, but only a 20-min danger period during which shock could occur (NS). Signaled P-S and R-S contingencies were preferred in a choice test to the unsignaled NS contingency, and P-S was preferred to R-S. Independent tests of the fear-eliciting properties of the cues made in an off-baseline test of suppression of ongoing exploration indicated more freezing (fear) to the 10-sec cue in rats experiencing the P-S contingency. The results were interpreted as indicating a preference for cues providing more precise information about the temporal location of shock even when those cues were fear-eliciting.  相似文献

A handedness questionnaire was administered to 446 stutterers and a control group. No significant male/female or stutterer/control effects were found, although both males and stutterers tended to be less right handed. A statistical procedure that separates storage from retrieval was used to study the acoustic similarity effect as a function of retention interval in the Brown-Peterson paradigm. Both storage and retrieval components showed reliable and independent changes with retention interval, but only the storage component was affected by acoustic similarity. Hence, acoustic similarity affects trace durability and retrieval plays no essential role in the similarity effect. This finding is inconsistent with the address hypothesis (cf. Baddeley, 1968). It is argued that acoustic similarity induces subjects to encode the target item in a confused fashion, particularly in regard to order information.  相似文献

The authors report their experience with a special form of psychodrama for the treatment in small groups of neurotic children aged five to fifteen. The acting out of ambivalent, partly unconscious and restrained tendencies and inclinations by playing, i.e., by taking roles in spontaneous performances, is followed by alternation of identification in the group and, possibly, careful indirect verbalization by the therapeutist and/or group, of which the purpose is to arrive at a reorientation of the attitudes of patients and a consolidation of the newly won attitude.  相似文献
