Depression is a human illness that may prevent sustainable goal attainment. People with Type 2 diabetes mellitus have a much higher risk of being depressed than the nonclinical population, which may be due to associations between the neurobiological mechanisms that play a role in the two diseases. The objective of the present study was to investigate the effects of rational emotive cognitive behavioral coaching (RE-CBC) on depressive thinking in a group of inpatients with Type 2 diabetes in Nigeria. A pretest–posttest control group design was used. Eighty participants were randomly allocated to the treatment and control groups. Outcomes were evaluated using Nigerian language (Igbo) versions of the Beck Depression Inventory-II and the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression, and the intervention was delivered in Igbo. An Igbo version of the Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy Manual for Depression was used as the intervention package. Data were analyzed using mean rank, repeated measures ANOVA, and the Mann–Whitney U test. At the end of the intervention, a significant decline in depression was observed among the participants in the group that received RE-CBC, but not in those that received standard counseling (control group). The effects of RE-CBC were maintained at follow-up. The present results suggest that RE-CBC is an effective and time-efficient intervention for managing depression in inpatients living with Type 2 diabetes. Future expectations, a subset of overall orientation, represent youths’ most realistic appraisals of future outcomes, and has been demonstrated to be associated with a range of health risk behaviors and wellbeing. The current study extends previous measurement efforts to operationalize and measure future expectations by estimating a multidimensional model of future expectations encompassing both positive and survival-based expectations, and using longitudinal data to test the consistency of these constructs over time. The current work uses data from six waves of the Chicago Youth Development Study (n = 338), a sample of African American and Latino young men from low income neighborhoods in an urban center, to test a hypothesized multidimensional structure of future expectations across adolescence. Test retest confirmatory factor analyses from six waves of data covering the mean age range of 12–19 years reveal good model fit for the hypothesized multidimensional model of future expectations at each wave. Strong measurement invariance based on race/ethnicity is established for the multidimensional model. Implications for a latent construct approach to future expectations with low-income racial/ethnic minority young men are discussed. 相似文献

Musical pitch-time relations were explored by investigating the effect of temporal variation on pitch perception. In Experiment
1, trained musicians heard a standard tone followed by a tonal context and then a comparison tone. They then performed one
of two tasks. In the cognitive task, they indicated whether the comparison tone was in the key of the context. In the perceptual
task, they judged whether the comparison tone was higher or lower than the standard tone. For both tasks, the comparison tone
occurred early, on time, or late with respect to temporal expectancies established by the context. Temporal variation did
not affect accuracy in either task. Experiment 2 used the perceptual task and varied the pitch structure by employing either
a tonal or an atonal context. Temporal variation did not affect accuracy for tonal contexts, but did for atonal contexts.
Experiment 3 replicated these results and controlled potential confounds. We argue that tonal contexts bias attention toward
pitch and eliminate effects of temporal variation, whereas atonal contexts do not, thus fostering pitch-time interactions.
