Social science researchers have increasingly come to utilize Amazon's Mechanical Turk (MTurk) to obtain adult, opt‐in samples for use with experiments. Based on the demographic characteristics of MTurk samples, studies have provided some support for the representativeness of MTurk. Others have warranted caution based on demographic characteristics and comparisons of reliability. Yet, what is missing is an examination of the most glaring demographic difference in MTurk—religion. We compare five MTurk samples with a student convenience sample and the 2012 General Social Survey, finding that MTurk samples have a consistent bias toward nonreligion. MTurk surveys significantly overrepresent seculars and underrepresent Catholics and evangelical Protestants. We then compare the religiosity of religious identifiers across samples as well as relationships between religiosity and partisanship, finding many similarities and a few important differences from the general population. 相似文献

In the present study brain laterality, hemispheric communication, and mental rotation performance were examined. A sample of 33 women were tested for a possible linear relationship of testosterone level and mental rotation with structural background of the brain. Subjects with a smaller splenial area of corpus callosum tended to have lower levels of testosterone (r =.37, p<.05). However, there were no significant differences in mean scores of mental rotation of object and hand between groups with high and low levels of testosterone. There was a significant difference in relative size of the 6th area (slice) of the corpus callosum between groups with good and poor scores on mental rotation of an object and also in relative size of the 4th and 5th slices of the corpus callosum between groups on mental rotation of the hand. The good and poor scorers' show different relations with the measures of the corpus. The mental rotation of hand was associated with the parietal areas of the corpus callosum, while the mental rotation of object was associated only with the occipital area. These observations suggest that higher testosterone levels may be associated with a larger splenial area, which represents an important connection between the parieto-occipitocortical areas involved in activation of mental images. Abstract The icosahedral quasicrystals i-AIMn, isomorphically substituted by 28 at.% Fe or by a mixture of (CrFe) atoms, have been studied for the first time by in-field Mössbauer spectroscopy in order to determine the sign and asymmetry parameter of the dominant electric-field gradient (EFG) term. In addition, the orthorhombic o-Al(MnFe) and cubic α- and hexagonal β-Al(MnFe)Si crystalline phases have been studied. We show that the previous Mössbauer results are inadequate for determining whether there are two sites in the quasicrystalline structure in the ratio of the golden number. Our results for i-Al(MnFe) show that the dominant EFG is negative, with an asymmetry parameter of about 0·6. For i-Al(CrFe), essentially no deviations are found from the model of Czjzek or the Gaussian isotropic model. One crystalline phase, the hexagonal β phase, is found to have a very similar quadrupole effect to that found in i-Al(MnFe). In addition it is found that this phase undergoes a change which is at least partly of magnetic origin. 相似文献
