Subjects hearing a list of associates to a nonpresented lure word later often claim to have heard the lure (Deese, 1959; Roediger & McDermott, 1995). To examine the characteristics of such false memories, subjects completed a memory characteristics questionnaire (MCQ; Johnson, Foley, Suengas, & Raye, 1988) or made remember/know (RK; Gardiner & Java, 1993) judgments for previously heard theme associates and nonpresented lures. MCQ ratings indicated that false memories for lures had less auditory detail and less remembered feelings and reactions than memories for presented words. In addition, rates of false recognition for lures were significantly lower than rates of correct recognition when items from various themes were intermixed instead of blocked at acquisition and subjects made MCQ ratings instead of RK judgments. This demonstrates that false memories can be affected both by how they are acquired and by how extensively they are examined at retrieval. 相似文献

Selective Disclosure: A Pilot Investigation into Changes in Family Relationships Since HIV Diagnosis

The aim of this research was (1) to determine the impact of HIV infection on the family as experienced by a sample of HIV infected males and females attending a London hospital HIV/AIDS service, and (2) to examine the feasibility of conducting this investigation in a clinical setting. Fifty patients (predominantly gay males and heterosexual females) attending an HIV outpatient clinic were assessed using a self-administered questionnaire covering family relationships and disclosure of HIV. The results showed a similarity for gay males and heterosexual females in the definition of 'close family', yet a difference in the disclosure of HIV status to their family of origin. We conclude that the impact of HIV on the family can be examined in a clinical setting, although the question of validation must be addressed. 相似文献

A viewpoint that has recently emerged in decision research is that preferences for objects of any complexity are often constructed — not merely revealed — in generating a response to a judgement or choice task. This paper reviews a program of research that traces the constructiveness of preferences to the use of multiple strategies in decision making, contingent on task demands. Stress and related concepts have long been associated with ideas about the genesis of mental and physical disorders. The concepts linking stress to disorder, however, have typically been very general in nature. The theme of the present paper is that such nonspecific principles may obscure more specific relations between relatively distinct forms of life stress and particular types of disorder outcome. The historical progression of ideas on this topic is traced and the assumptions behind specificity and nonspecificity models of disorder are outlined. The implications of these developments are next illustrated in regard to current conceptual and operational shortcomings. Recent research that has overcome these limitations and suggests the viability and importance of more specific linkages between particular forms of stress and disorders is selectively reviewed. Finally, the paper concludes with some speculative comments on the problems facing investigators interested in translating stress concepts into operational procedures. 相似文献

Reports of differences among schools in emotional and social climate were related to changes in behavioral and emotional problems and alcohol use in students who remained in these schools over a 2-year interval. Four dimensions of school climate were examined. School conflict and social facilitation were shown to be related to increases in childhood psychopathology, whereas student autonomy was not. Effects of academic focus were even stronger than those of conflict, in the sense of being independently related to more syndromes. School climate effects were examinedfor conditionality on student characteristics and for synergism, It was concluded that intervention to alter the school climate may promote the emotional and behavioral well-being of children and adolescents.This research was supported by NIMH Grants MH36971 and MH30906. The present study investigated the effects of job analysis training and the amount of information available to the job analyst on job analysis ratings. Forty subjects were asked to complete the Position Analysis Questionnaire (PAQ) and the Job Components Inventory (JCI) for the position of College Resident Assistant. Results indicated that when using the PAQ as the job analysis instrument, there was no significant effect for either training or the amount of information received by the job analyst. For the JCI, the results indicated that trained analysts were more reliable and accurate than untrained analysts. Also, it was found that the more information received by the job analysts, the more reliable and accurate were their JCI ratings. 相似文献
